It's been a while since I played it, I did 3.5 PT's Dandelions quests killed me in the 4th one so not sure I remember how long my first PT took but at a guess I'd say 200+ hours. I tried to look on GOG to see the exact hours but I'd need to install the game and move the save files from another drive but the last time I played it was 2016!!!!

Thanks been enjoying it so far. I was going to skip to TW2 or TW3, but like the Mass Effect games it's good to start from the beginning and see how it started. Although Geralt has a cold monotone voice he does have a sense of humor and can be sarcastic at times. The combat is annoying because I have to keep the mouse cursor on the npc while clicking the left mouse button. What makes it annoying is if you don't have the cursor on the npc Geralt won't attack. My favorite part so far though is the alchemy. Love gathering herbs and creating potions and oils. But boy that boss battle with the Beast almost made me give up I tried thirteen times before I finally killed it. I'd really recommend not skipping any of the games, they all have great NPC's in them and TW2 in particular has a good story and a diverging path with two different PT options of which both stories are great. It also has Odrin and his quest in it. Just watch the first 40 seconds or so and you can see why he is so special. TW3 is a must play at least once so really you should play all of them but TW3 is long so expect that. Oh, I don't intend to skip any of the games. Like the Mass Effect games it's a series and like with those games I want to see a beginning, middle, and end. I'll check out the vid.

Got to play some Witcher 1 last night. Finally got a silver sword the only problem is they didn't give me steel sword back. Went into the sewers killed a couple of drowners. Met a Knight of Order called Siegfried who also did monster hunting. Together we killed the cockatrice left the sewers, Siegfried stayed behind in the sewers. Had to get back my stuff so went back to the dungeon told the guard captain the cockatrice was dead. He allowed me to get back my equipment. Went to the detective got some information. Detective told me I was followed so waited to midnight. Went outside and saw some Salamandra thugs lead by the arrogant Professor. Killed them except the Professor who left before they attacked. Been exploring Vizima ever since.

We may be playing along together for a few hours a day
...
I had issues with the damned Beast. I made the massive mistake of not applying oils before leaving the cave, and also had some strange zooming issues with the preceding cutscene to the battle, which left me in a disoriented state every time. May be an effect from one of my mods.
Also, was panic'd because I kept letting my friend, who I had just defended with words and actions, die. I forgot that she has plot armor and will revive after combat. Derp.
...
Anyways, back to Vizima. I have a pair of glasses I want to collect, the head attached to them I can dispose of.

Another cool thread. I bought TW1 at release. It was horrible. Thankfully CDPR was committed to update the game. By the time they released the enhanced version, it was great. I am glad that you didn't have to go through that. Enjoy the game!

Wow, what a coincidence? Last night after exploring Vizima took out the local gang that was bothering Carmen and her girls. Then decided then decided to head to the swamp and 10 drowned dead. This specific type of Drowner does not exist so far. Found a small village met an npc named Gramps. Agreed to escort him to the chapel. Was attacked by 2 plant monsters that keep on killing me. So that's where I am trying to kill the plant monsters. I have a couple of saves before I left Vizima for the swamp in case I messed up. I am playing this blind and just going by my gut. Oh I forgot two days ago the tavern in Vizima was attacked and the killers used the weapons I gave the Scoa'tael back in Chapter I. I can't let this happen again I must remain neutral.

Are you talking about the Archespore plants? Tips below if you want them: They are vulnerable to fire so you can use a torch to better effect when attacking them than your swords, otherwise Silver Sword and Strong attacks especially when they go under the ground.
They don't like fire so Igni is good and Aard also stuns or slows them down IIRC.

It's good to be thinking about these things as I am getting to the end of my current MELE PT and I need to remember this stuff as I intend playing the The Witcher games again afterwards. So it's good to see your posts and it prompts me to think about combat etc. in the Witcher games again. I looked at the dates of my save files for TW1 yesterday to see when I last played the game and it was 2014. Seems I can rmember stuff from then better thatn what i did yesterday in MELE.

Yeah, I was kind of shocked when my last playthrough was complete in 2016! Echinopsae. Damned angry thornbushes. Sounds like you missed a little content Talyn. It isn't major, but Leuvaarden has a quest for you before entering Vizima, and you encounter an "old" (you will understand this eventually ) friend from TW3 as a result. I have missed this before, missed this part of the map entirely before actually. Trying not to fail quests this go.

Anyway I got the hell out of the swamp and am now back in the city. Those plant monsters kept on killing me then I noticed I was doing barely any damage. I would do only one point of damage each hit. So I left to see if I could do any other quests and level up and perhaps buy new gear.

Been playing the game some more. Finally figured out how to get past the old lady to speak to Shani. Found out from Shani that she herself works at the hospital. Did a quest for the merchant whose name starts with a Z. I was told to head back to the swamp and kill the drowners hanging around his shipping area. Easily killed them and got 400 Orens from the merchant. Went back to the city and bought a monster book about those plant monsters. Found out they use poison attacks. It occurred to me that there has to be a potion to negate the poison effects and I was right. Bought the missing ingredient from Kalkstein and created the potion. Now I have to test it out. While at Kalkstein's got a quest to investigate a mysterious tower in the swamps. He told me about two books had enough money to buy one of them. Will buy the other one after more questing. Now I'm going to head to the swamps to try the antivenom potion against those plant monsters, and finally escort Gramps to his chapel.

I finally defeated that plant monster. It was only one and apparently it was the top dog for that species. I had to drink 4 potions before the fight, one was a swallow, the other restored endurance, and one improved my dodging and parrying, and lastly the antivenom which only gave 70% resistance. I had to do a lot of dodging which I suck at. If it was on controller I wouldn't have a problem but on keyboard it's hard for me. So I killed the bastard took it's "head" and gave it to the guard captain. Back at the swamp I brought Gramps to the chapel. I explored the rest of the swamp encountered Drowner Dead and some monster that when it dies it explodes into a poison mist. They are difficult when they're are more than one plus Drowners join in the fight. Had to fight some ghouls found two of their victims. Back at the Brickmaker village the old lady told me about a boy that had gone missing. She believed the druids kidnapped him to turn him into a dryad.
Went to the druids and spoke to one of them and a dryad, they both told me the boy was not there. Went back and told the old lady. Gramps is a cannibal!!! Found him in his shack eating human remains. Let him go for now, because he had the second book for the Mystery Tower. Will kill him before I leave area. Found an area with some golems frozen in time. I collected the 10 drowner dead tongues, the 10 wolf pelts, and need one more root from the lesser plant monsters. Then have to solve mystery of the mage tower.

Played some more earlier tonight. Went to Kalkstein to talk about the 10 Seriphot that I needed. I gave him both books and he gave me some notes detailing where they were located. I unknowingly had four out of the 10 already. Quickly collected four more, then the 9th one I had to reactivate a stone golem. I reactivated it by stabbing it with a lightning rod. Fought it many times and always the same result me dead. I brought it to the Knights of Order. The knights surrounded it but were easily killed. So I tried a new strategy. I looked up online how to kill it and there was a short video showing how to easily kill it using the Pylons. I did as the video showed and it was dead. I then took the ninth Seriphot and need one more. Went to the camp with the Knights of Order, Siegfried asked if I could lead his forces against the Scoia'tael I agreed and we killed the group of elves. (I hope I didn't mess up, but I like Siegfried and did not want to kill him.)

Did a lot tonight. Went to the detective Raymond and followed his leads. Accused Kalkstein of leading Salamandra. Felt kind of bad accusing him because my gut told me he was innocent. Found out that the Vivaldi bank payed the Professor's fine. Spoke to Vivaldi and he said he did no such thing. I believed him. Spoke to Rammsmeat and he too seem to be telling the truth. Heard some disturbing rumors about the detective. Spoke to a messenger about their ties to Salamandra had to get him drunk to talk. He directed me to the merchant who's name starts with an L.
The merchant told me he is a part of a group that fights Salamndra. He paid me well for all of the Salamandra pins I collected. Spoke to the detective and asked about the rumors. He basically said they were false. He insisted that Rammsmeat and Kalkstein were apart of Salamndra. (Started getting suspicious of him.) Killed Rammsmeat had no evidence fight was hard because of his thugs. Questioned Kalkstein and he got offended. Went back to the detective and he said he had a plan to draw Kalkstein. we were to go to the mage's tower in the swamp. He gave me the last Seriphot I needed.
Back at the swamp I activated all ten shrines and got access to the tower. Went in learned a new sign and found a book. Went back outside and the detective was really the mage who lead the attack on the Witcher stronghold. Had a tough fight with both him and the professor. They poisoned Geralt and left him for dead. Triss saved me and Chapter III began in her apartment in the Trade Quarter. She asked to place three sensors around the Trade and Temple Quarters. When placing the second sensor finally got access to the cemetery. Killed a bunch of ghouls, alghoul's, and vampiric beasts. Finally got three alghoul marrow for Kalkstein.
Went back to Kalkstein's house teleported to the mage tower told him the alghoul marrow, and asked about the mage's tower. He told me he was happy with what he has found. Placed the last sensor and teleported to Triss. Told her all three sensors were placed.

But I do not know how to look for the magical source. Edit: Oh wait a minute! Was it vibrating because the mage was impersonating the detective?

Edit: Oh wait a minute! Was it vibrating because the mage was impersonating the detective? Yep. You can keep asking him questions about your suspicions but of course he always has an explanation. I don't think you can ever accuse him directly of anything, or tell him you've figured out his ruse, though I'm not sure why. He would just wipe the floor with Geralt and call it a day, giving the player a game over screen.

I only accused him twice and dropped it. I was very suspicious of him though. He wanted Rammsmeat and Kalkstein framed no matter what.

Last night I played until 6am in the morning. So many decisions to make. I thought the Mass Effect games had tough decisions, but this game has got them in spades. Here are three I remember, one, bringing Alvin to either Triss or Shani. The problem is Geralt likes both of them and me I have a weakness for redheads. So I went with Triss. Because even though I never played a Witcher game I know who Triss was, didn't know she was a sorceress but I always seen her depicted next to Geralt. Plus since she's a sorceress I feel she can protect Alvin better. The next decision was finding a Knight's sister who was bitten by a vampire. I found her at a brothel working as a lady of the night literally. Apparantly she indeed was bitten by a vampire. The Madam spoke to Geralt as if she knew him since he was suffering from amnesia he did not recall her or her man. She asked me to protect the girl and side with the vampires. As a Witcher my mind said no, but my gut told me she was telling the truth. So after the love sequence Geralt is confronted by the Knight that hired him, a fight ensues and the Knight and his men are killed. Both the Madam and the sister thanked Geralt, but this made him question his ability as a Witcher. Last big decision was side with the humans and the Order or side with the non humans and the Scoia'tael? At first Geralt wanted to remain neutral, but the elf told him he must make a choice. So remembering how humans look down on both non humans and mutants, Geralt sided with the Scoia'tael. But he let it be known that he was a Witcher first and foremost and that was his top priority.

Well you will enjoy the second game in particular a certain red head has a major part in it. Yep lots of decisions that impact the game but if you don't want to stress read the spoiler, it is a fairly generic but large spoiler in a sense. Your decisions IIRC even if you import a save which for some reason I can't remember you should do, do not carry over into TW2. The start of which is I think one of the best starts to a game.
