I was thinking about it a few days ago and it occurred to me that the idea of a group that interferes in foreign affairs and answers to no one can have some pretty disturbing implications.
Yes, I know we still have the shadow Inquisition in the comics, but it has a small reach. I'd like to focus on the organization as it was at its peak.

I would say that so long as it operated under my Lavellan, things would have been fine....but in reality, an untethered Inquisition is very terrifying indeed. Even if you believe your Inquisitor would do no wrong, what about the Inquisitor afterward? Or do we really believe the Inquisition would just die out when our Inquisitor would?
Ultimately most, if not all, Inquisitions will continue to find 'chaos' to fight simply because problems will always exist. And if we continue to fight them, rearranging or forcing our policies on areas as we see fit, then we would very well be like the early Chantry and/or Drakon that basically conquered, coerced, and negotiated their way across Thedas since they had the military power to back those efforts.
...But developing that nation-shaping force may not be a bad thing depending on who you ask. History is written by the winners, and depending on what exactly the Inquisition becomes in terms of policy, we could more or less make any type of nation we want or exert enough influence on an existing nation that it might as well be ours. In which case, the question is not if OUR Inquisition will make 'good' policy, but if the Inquisition after us will.
