The mural they showed a while back shows the two we know of (the two upside-down figures). People theorise that 2 gods will get out because of this image from the 2020 teaser: I'm wary about taking too much from this trailer now. Much has changed since then, even the logo for the game. Then there is the commitment to the single-player game. Remember the 2018 trailer was connected with the first incarnation of the game (Joplin?), which then changed to Morrison. There was a lot of concern by those of us who don't do multi-player what that might mean, particularly as they were said to be using the Anthem codes on the game. Then, some months subsequent to this 2020 trailer, they announced the commitment to the single player game. I still question why they referred us back to the 2018 trailer concerning Solas' presence in the game, without mentioning 2020. They don't say it was the first hint, just their hint that he would be returning. Why not continue with a further reference to the most recent trailer in 2020 in which he appeared and was listed among the enemies we will face? Couple that with the numerous shots of Antiva and the Crows in that trailer and associated art, I do wonder if that trailer was showcasing areas we were originally meant to be visiting and factions we would be working with in multi-player. That said, since I am sure there is a link between the Old Gods and the ancient elves, it wouldn't be a total surprise if the last two Old Gods aren't going to be involved in some way, either opposing or aiding the Dreadwolf. Whilst I don't believe any of the theories based on trailers are certain (for one thing all creative projects iterate and change during the creation process), I don't think that the announcement of the title Dreadwolf referencing the teaser that had #thedreadwolfRises in it is unusual or devalues the more recent teaser. We don't know what the nature of the multiplayer and live service elements planned for Morrison actually were. But if the 2020 teaser was showing primarily mp elements that won't be in the sp then i doubt they would have aired it since they knew they were going to cut all that stuff for sp months earlier. And given how vague and mysterious the 2020 teaser is we probably won't be able to tell how much the story may or may not have changed since it's release when we do finally play the game. We saw some factions, some pretty locations, a mysterious mural, confirmation of a new protagonist (which we already suspected), and Solas (whom we already knew and still is the antagonist). I suspect all those things will still be in the game even if they did rewrite parts of the plot after removing mp. I doubt they completely rewrote it, since rewriting the whole story that late in the process would be a huge amount of effort that seems like it would only be necessary if the mp component was so huge and vital to that story that removing it would require a full reboot of the game, (which i don't think we've heard any indication of) as opposed to a component that could be cut to focus on sp. This is also why I doubt they would change the protagonist to the inquisitor as some have suggested. A game with the inquisitor would be a very different one to a game with a new PC and basically require a reboot. Additionally since they already knew they would be going sp and making whatever necessary plot changes when they aired the 2020 teaser, i don't think they would have posted a teaser indicating a new hero for the game if there was even a possibility that that wouldn't be the case. It would be easy enough to cut that part (or all of) varrics audio from the teaser if they were even a little unsure.

But if the 2020 teaser was showing primarily mp elements that won't be in the sp then i doubt they would have aired it since they knew they were going to cut all that stuff for sp months earlier. I thought the opposite was the case. The trailer aired in December 2020 but it wasn't until Spring 2021 that the decision was finally made to focus on single player. That was around the same time that information dried up. Up until then there had been regular tweets showcasing concept art, particularly featuring the Crows and the Arcane Archer but also the mage in the back streets of a neon lit Minrathous, which tied back to the 2020 trailer. Of these, I won't be surprised if only the mage and Minrathous make it through to the final cut. I don't think it was a full reboot but I remember how DAI was delayed because of the desire to include the multi-player element. So I think it became a choice between focusing on the single player and keeping to their original milestones for the release of the game, or having more slippage and seeing the release date move further into the future. In the end they decided to opt for the single player approach and keep to their original schedule.

Had a brief moment of confusion reading this until I reread your previous post and realised i had misread it the first time round as saying some months previous rather then some months after the 2020 game awards trailer, whoops Not sure why my brain thought it was earlier, though i would be a little surprised if the decision had only just been made when Schreier published his article on the 25th of February. Though I still think that teaser is nonspecific enough that it is probably still relevant to the game after the change. And I still doubt they'd change course on protagonist.

I agree they will not change it to the Inquisitor as protagonist. We will get a new player, but i think they cut something out. Jackdaw told in his new video that joplin should get the name Dragon age minarathous nights. So i think we going Tevinter only. some parts of the trailer 2020 will stay, but many contant will be cut out.

Definitely agree on proving him wrong and show he doesn't need to destroy this world. I want him to have to bask in his failure for eternity. Which leads to the second part, which is sealing him in the same inescapable prison that he put the Evanuris in. After all by his logic anyone who murders Mythal, which now includes him, deserves an eternity of torment. I'm sure they'll all love to see him again.

Making Solas finally fully grasp the horror and agony he caused through his arrogance and blind self-righteousness, and that all his efforts were in vain. That would be worse than death for him.
Maybe give him a cozy little place to think about it, somewhere deep underground, dark and damp.

2. Muuch like the Nightmare scenario for the OP Solas succeeds at least partially with his plan. Maybe one of the Evanuris is free from their tomb, maybe two of them, but we stop him from bringing the whole Veil down. Contrary to that above scenario though, because this is another plan that just blew up in his face, he realizes he has been a fool all along and offers to fight at your side to try and undo this. He would probably have to sacrifice himself against this evil to ensure Thedas still has a chance...but then the game hints at while they have managed to prevent the immediete appocylypse and while Thedas can focus on more terrirstrial threats that maybe we now know the Veil is more damaged so things will start leaking through which can set up DA 5. Of course neither of these assumes the Veil comes down wholesale. I think this is still a very likely possibility but I do not know what Thedas would look like in the aftermath of an event to even speculate. I'd like him to know that his plan would have been wrong even if it had worked exactly as intended, and not just cause he screwed up either it's implementation or in predicting the results. If that were the case then this scenario would work for me.

Nope. Going the poetic justice route. He established those rules, so just making sure he follows them. But hasn't it been established that Solas's rules are bad? As in, bad for Thedas bad? If the theory on Solas's prison making the Evauris even more insane is even half right, we're only setting up Thedas for ruin in the long run if people are allowed to imprison him the EXACT same way. Put him in a modified evanuris prison and have his soul destroyed slowly or something (like 100,000 years or whatever), but setting up Thedas's potential disaster seems counterintuitive. Not that I personally would do that, mind, I would much rather see him see the error of his ways and have him prove that through a near-eternity of good works or just straight killing him (depending on how he acts in the gam). But if people want revenge on Solas I think there are better ways than just defaulting to becoming 'Solas 2.0'.

Never even heard that theory, let alone it be supported in the game so I bear that no mind. Solas being out and about is bad for Thedas bad. He did a couple years of good works and then decided “meh, I’m going to kill them all anyway.” There is absolutely no guarantee that if we do what you suggest he doesn’t try the same thing centuries later when people aren’t aware or prepared.

My thought on this subject is that Solas won't go 'curses my utterly perfect plan was foiled by sheer dumb luck oh woe!' more like 'wait another one of my plans failed again? Am I one of the baddies?' This is what I think will happen. Sure if enough of his plans fail if he has any awareness at all he should know that maybe its not the other people who are messing it up but the quality of his plans in general. And then realize that he is in the wrong at all. Or I guess of course the other option is we realize we are wrong and that there is some sort of long game he is planning and he has been more or less lying through his teeth towards us...in some level.

Or I guess of course the other option is we realize we are wrong and that there is some sort of long game he is planning and he has been more or less lying through his teeth towards us...in some level. I think that if they are going to give us any wriggle room at all for sparing him, they are going to be doing something along these lines. However, it is not so much that we are wrong but that we didn't have sufficient information to make an informed judgement. Whose fault is that, at least so far as the Inquisitor is concerned? Solas. We can straight up ask him "Why does this world have to die?" And his reply is something along the lines of "I am giving out information on a need to know basis and you don't need to know", essentially "Spoilers". This is why I have always claimed that Trespasser was simply a very long teaser trailer for the next game. Otherwise, why not tell them? He knows that what he is doing is wrong. Otherwise why does he keep apologising for it? His attitude is the ends justify the means and his justification is that you would do the same to save your own people, without telling us from what? Is something terrible going to befall the elves if he doesn't act? If it is the Blight he is worried about then that threatens everyone, so we would have a vested interest in wanting to stop it too. So why not pool our resources and figure out a way that doesn't involve the mass genocide he is planning? He claimed to Charter that what he was going to do would save the world, not just the select elves who survive the process, but that was one of his justifications for imprisoning the Evanuris. The offering of three different justifications for this: retribution for the murder of Mythal; saving his People; saving the world; does make me feel that he is just trying to come up with excuses to make himself look better in the eyes of his friend the Inquisitor. If there is mutual hatred between them, he just doesn't bother with this but straight out tells them he is going to restore the world of the elves because he wants to reverse his previous action, so enjoy your life whilst you can. That is it. You get the distinct impression he derives a certain satisfaction for rubbing their nose in the fact that all their actions have amounted to nothing. If, like the Qun, your philosophy goes against his own, then he makes it quite clear he will act against you purely because he loathes your politics, even if it means assisting someone he also disapproves of, like the Inquisitor. This is why I suspect the real reason he acted against the Evanuris wasn't from noble motives but because "they offended me", but because some part of him hates himself for this, he has convinced himself it was really done for the People. Again, this seems to point towards the idea of finding his true self because he will then abort his plan because he is genuinely horrified by it.

Honestly have no strong feelings about his fate. I think he's a great character that can be taken in any direction without it feeling off.
I only hope he isn't reduced to a mustache twirler but I trust Bioware to not do that.

First playthrough...I'm thinking about that Fargo reference above. Hopefully though the story actually allows us various options: kill him, redeem him...hell, help him turn the world inside out (prolly not though). I always try every variation I can in order to get the maximum fun out of these games.

I personally don't want a redemption Arc. Just let me kill him and be done with it. Maybe proof him wrong beforehand, so he dies miserably.

So many replies like this, but no one takes the time to elaborate. Why the hate for Solas? It can't be because he wants to destroy the world because that's just tuesday in this kind of story.
