So several of my online friends and even my workers have been talking about and playing "Elden Ring". I had no idea what it was or what it was about, but just a moment ago it popped up on my Steam page so I thought I would check it out.
My first impression from the Trailers I have watched is that it looks amazing, but it also looks very dark and quite difficult. Can anyone tell me what they think of it? My initial thought was "whoa, this is what Dragon Age Origins should have been....Except it looks and feels very dark, and the gameplay and combat look quite difficult. For those reasons alone I'm not sure I would like it. I mean, the story looks amazing....But I'm not sure I'd spend that kind of money on a game I know nothing about. I did that with Dragon Age Origins, and turned out not to like it that much...though I decided to stay with the franchise and really liked the last 2 games in the franchise. But this...I dunno."
And also "I'm a sucker for OSTs and digital downloads"
Can anyone who owns it and has played it share their opinion and feedback?

It's like a Souls game. Even the same studio. Doesnt appeal to me at all but taste is subjective.

I just checked it out on youtube....and the story/lore look amazing, but the combat looks insanely difficult--which is a turn off for me. So it is one that I think I will pass on more than likely.

There is no difficulty adjustment and there are save points.
From the feedback, the SQs generally don't end well. More often than not, you'll wish you never bothered in the first place.
And yes, you can spend hours trying to defeat a particular boss or bosses rather. I've watched hours of game play. It's guaranteed to bring frustration and rage when you have to keep repeating the fights numerous times in order to learn the right timing to dodge / inflict a hit. Moreover, you'll find that "special" boss fought and won spawned as travel mobs. Yes, you'll encounter them again along your travels.
The devs boast of many "unique" bosses. I think over a 100? But players discovered that the greater number are merely repeats with some additional enhancements.
If you don't want players to spawn into your game and bring grief / interruption to your enjoyment, play offline.
The game has been suffering from low FR, stuttering and suspicion that the hastily slapped on PvP anti-cheat are making game performance and fights that much more worse when you're not hitting the target or you're getting killed every time because the game stutter when you're trying to dodge.
If you're fine with all these features; find repeating fights a great challenge enjoy exploring left / right / up / down fighting every step of the way / getting pounced on do not mind repeating such steps again if you happen to die do not mind having other players invading your game and end up either helping you or killing you do not mind poring over every inch of everywhere and speak to everyone to get the lore
then this game is for you. 😄

No, thank you. Thank you for such detail insight and feedback. Upon reading your post, I have definitively concluded that Elden Ring is not for me. I am however, greatly anticipating STAR WARS: Jedi Survivor, and of course, the next MASS EFFECT game.

Like Gryphon said the game for pc was poorly optimized while another potential issue is that if you played all the other souls games you'll notice that half of the enemy skeletons, and combat animations were recycled. Enemy AI uses gimmicks like input reading, with one example being that you knock a boss on it's ass then decided to chug a potion but out of nowhere before it's body hits the ground it rises like the Undertaker on 100x fastfoward, and clotheslines you straight to hell. some large bosses' bodies have awkward hitboxes while their attacks are bigger than what they should be like Chuck Norris throwing a roundhouse kick over your head and the building behind you explodes.
The lore was good if you can piece it together, and the exploration is rewarding but the platforming was horrendous due to the studio not creating new movement animations for climbing (Haligtree was my Nam) while collision detection from falls is all over the place. If Bloodborne was on pc i would recommend you to play that game instead.

This is just another example of evidence as to why I would not like the game. It looks good, cool, interesting....But if I were to actually play it-- based on everyone's feedback thus far...I am betting that I would end up not liking it, so I am going to stay away and focus on games I have and know that I really like, such as Shadow of the Tomb Raider (which is amazing). Thanks again.
