So when running around getting the darkspawn blood I noticed the varius standing stones, looking at them....one side had a hand reaching down to grab an eye and the other had an armored figure in a hood with a spike on one shoulder but faceless.
I couldn't help but think that it resembled a low-detailed image of the awakened darkspawn.
The Disciples I mean.

Couldn't quite tell what the design going on underneath the images on the standing stone were, if they were meant to be anything at all.
Presuming I'm correct it could mean they have some ideas for awakened darkspawn for awhile....or they had the design for awhile, put it on the stones because its around the grey warden fort that fight Darkspawn and later fleshed the design out more to make a more distinct kind of Darkspawn.
