Got some catching up to do but just a quick observation on God of War (2005): WTF.... !! Really?!! Oh, you have to be kidding me !! There's no catering to casual peasants... There is a reason this game used to be called God of traps once upon a time... Thankfully, this crap has been drastically toned down in the other titles. Afraid you will need to endure 10 hours of masochism before reaching the less stressful experiences. You're not wrong... I mean, here's a room with a load of holes in the floor, how bad can this be Yet I'm still playing despite nearly throwing the controller through the screen...

Not really digging the whole "Last of Us" esque gameplay. It just makes all of my "typical western AAA game" bells ring. And then there is the whole practice of naming a new game after the very first game in the series with no alteration. It's like the Eurovision song contest; unbearably fucking pleased with itself and you're supposed to stick the current year on the end of the name. It's stupid.

I enjoyed the original and GoW2, but found GoW3 completely mindless. I never bothered with the superfluous extra entries.
The new GoW seems to have the things long lacking from the series: story and worthwhile characters. The acclaim this game is receiving has nearly convinced me to buy it. I was already optimistic based upon dev interviews and the like. The universally high praise from reviewers has been a surprise. It sounds like a near-Must Play.

GoW3 had a great build up but the final bout felt kinda deflated in comparison. My personal favorite set-pieces come both out of Ascension (Hecatoncheires/Alecto).

I enjoyed the original and GoW2, but found GoW3 completely mindless. I never bothered with the superfluous extra entries. Just finished the original God of War It's probably the game that has triggered most cases of 'I don't know if I can complete this section' of any game I've played. I nearly threw the controller through the screen several times. Yet having finished it really conveys a sense of satisfaction that places 'God of War' positively on my personal list of most enjoyable games. On to 'God of War: Chains of Olympus'. Despite being 3 years newer it seems a bit more derivative, if still enjoyable.

I’m just not sure it will be a game for which I feel well about dropping $60.
EDIT: It was Eurogamer.

I was at gamestop a few hours ago to pick up a used game to play until I get my copy of God of War. Found out that gamestop is releasing the game at 9:00pm EST tonight for those who have preordered the game. They made some arrangement with the publisher.

I'm feeling so indecisive about this game. I just watched a good, very spoiler-light (menus and a hub) video that addrsssed crafting, investing in skills, quest varieties, etc... and it looked really cool. I'll link it. I know I'd enjoy parts of his game, and I want a new experience. I don't want a mindless slaughter-fest, which is how I view GoW3. I'm more interested in story than in ripping people in half. I'm still on the fence, vascillating on this.

I see this game selling 10 million copies very easily. I would even go as far as to say I wouldn't be surprised if it surpasses 15 million.

Watching GOW gameplay now. P.S. Gameplay is ok; it's pretty much the same as the other GOW. A lot of mobs. Kill two, three drop in, etc. Combat and crit animation are different now of course, but it's the same stuff over and over after some time. Nothing on the story yet, it's all mysterious at the moment. The kid can be a bit annoying though; he's blabbering all the time.

It's not a auto-targeting axe so players have to be on top of their game when facing hordes that can come from all directions. Just the tiniest bit off and you'll find your block ineffective because you're facing the wrong direction. I was referring to the horde pattern though regards the same type of gameplay as the older GOW. I just find it repetitive; kill two, three more comes in, etc, etc. P.S. The boy is useful. You can upgrade him to give some heals, nail down a particular mob with his arrows. He's now gone to actively helping Kratos achieve killing blows. But boy, can he be annoying if you die numerous times; you keep hearing the same lines from him every time. Oh, not bad. You get upgrades from NPCs after clearing certain areas.

Just started playing. Here's a couple of screenshots. Still getting use to the controls. Graphics look very good. Is this going to be the thread to post what was done in the game? Or will that be for the other thread to post in for what someone did today in any game?

I would love to post my experiences about the game here, but no game will ever be worth 200 bucks, so I must patiently wait for a price drop.

Trying hard not to look at reviews. Finished God of War: Chains of Olympus (enjoyable if not quite God of War) On to God of War: Ascension to finish the 'backstory'. I understand that may be a weaker entry, but I'm in no hurry, so let's see.
Ok, looks pretty, mechanics a little different but fun so far...

So is this game overrated? I notice that exclusives tend to get the kid glove treatment in reviews.

So, is Dad of War a console exclusive, or is it coming to PC at some point? Expecting god of war to come to PC is like expecting Gears of war to come to the PS4. So... no. Afraid you will need to buy a PS4 if you ever want to play it.

Afraid you will need to buy a PS4 if you ever want to play it. Yeah, Sony wants the double reap. Console exclusives are not likely to be ported to PC. That's fine with me. I'm not buying consoles since I'd rather watch streamers 'lose their tempers' and muck through the grind. If I want the complete story, there's always cutscene movies on YT. There's always one guy on the ball; he's very fast.

Never played a GoW title before because hack n slay is not my thing. Don't like gore much. I can tolerate it but that's it. Like you it's storytelling that gets me interested and maybe the visuals. Neither does anything for me here. The kid looks like fun. That's about it. All these reviews praising the game had me perk up for a split second. But gameplay footage quickly put a stop to it. Just bought Far Cry 5 on a minor sale and will give it a shot. Kind of worried it was a bad idea. Another franchise I normally couldn't care less for. But certain elements look promising.
