Ooooo. My response to the latter half. What a unique perspective regards some weapons. Old friends. Yep. Confirmed there is going to be a sequel, folks. Blow me down regards the boy's name. *falls over*

For folks who are interested, here's the trophy list I just entered another region. The graphics are amazing. The team definitely took time to make everything so detailed. Here's some very spoiler dialogue from Kratos in the game. Boy. Make sure you buy this game.

So I decided to do a marathon of God of war to relieve the series again before eventually getting god of war.
Good lord, I have forgotten how utterly awful Ares boss battle is. The third and final segment is not challenging. It's just cheap level design when the enemy can stunlock you with an unblockable attack and kill you in one hit. Maybe I'll skip it and try another game in the series...

themikefest, Is the first pick from Alfheim? I'm assuming we visit the realms. I'm still eyeing this game. I think I need to hear from someone who thought the earlier games were mediocre that this is dramatically better in terms of story. GoW fans tend to think that he earlier games were phenomenal because those were their type of games. I thought they were meh, with fun gameplay. I'll not get this one if it's essentially the same recipe but with updated tech.

This current game has collectibles that explain the lore and background. So its not always fighting. After fighting enemies the journal will make notes about weaknesses for a particular enemy and what to avoid when fighting it. I guess the game is about a father and son spending time together and growing together while carrying the mothers ashes to the top of a mountain

The exploration and item based puzzle-solving radiates a tasty, older generation, legend of zelda vibe.
This title is a spectacle but most importantly, for me, a fully realized game, packed with quality content and fun mechanics.
I hope the praise from the press is enough of a message for Sony/Santa Monica to keep Cory on the wheel of the series.

It can be felt all over the game in every corner of it and that's what impresses me the most.

I enjoyed the original and GoW2, but found GoW3 completely mindless. I never bothered with the superfluous extra entries. The new GoW seems to have the things long lacking from the series: story and worthwhile characters. The acclaim this game is receiving has nearly convinced me to buy it. I was already optimistic based upon dev interviews and the like. The universally high praise from reviewers has been a surprise. It sounds like a near-Must Play. Lowest aggregated score for a main GoW entry excluding remastered version, is 92/100 (3rd one which i also thought was mindless story-wise but enjoyed it overall as a game). not that scores guarantee quality or else at least these days. As far as the new GoW is concerned...overall it is an amazing game but story-wise if you know the premise and enough about Norse myth you could generally guess what you are in for (not everything of course but you get the idea). As for worthwhile characters beside Daddy and the boy...there is "The Stranger" and i guess Mimir? or rather his...nevermind.

I'm in a region where I have to complete challenges to move forward. I will say the kid is annoying during the challenges. He needs to stop yelling when I know there's an enemy about to hit me. Outside of that, the game is very good.

Outside of that, the game is very good. I reckon that's useful for people who are not very good at paying attention (and considering some let's play I've seen, there are a lot of them). But I can understand that it's annoying for someone that already has good reflexes.

Finished God of War: Ascension. Looked good, interesting locations, some moments almost reminded me of Tomb Raider / Uncharted. I probably enjoyed it more than the original. Sacrilege?

Well, I never said it was a bad game... I guess some players were just frusted with prequel after prequel that they were starting to feel like cash grabs. Btw, I was playing ghost of sparta today. And when I said there were some spoilers a couple of days ago, turns out it was a mistake. There are no spoilers in the game, so you can play it before God of war 2. For continuity sake if anything else.

You’re going to play them all anyway, so it’s not a big deal; but I can’t imagine putting off GoW2 for the others. It was the best in the series by far, in my opinion. I’d have just played them in release order, likely. Edit: Forgot to either quote or tag SofaJockey, for clarity’s sake.

I’d have just played them in release order, likely. Edit: Forgot to either quote or tag SofaJockey , for clarity’s sake. Understand the point you make, I realize that the most obvious way to play is in release order. Yet I quite like the order I've ended up with: - God of War (2005) - the original
- God of War: Chains of Olympus - backstory
- God of War: Ascension - earlier backstory
- God of War: Ghost of Sparta - immediate aftermath of GoW
- God of War II - after that
- God of War III - ...
- God of War (2018)
Even with Ascension being made 8 years after the first one, the mechanics aren't that different to make dotting around in production date too jarring. The original 6 games amount to some 70/80 hours of 'similar' gameplay, so before playing God of War (2018) I wanted to round out the playthrough 'on a high' with what I understand to be the stronger entries (II and III). Whilst the plot isn't Shakespearian in its complexity, I also like the story progression.
Just an observation, but the internet is awash with tweets and videos debating if not pushing God of War (2018) plot points, the ending, what happens to various characters, etc. Because I have little context for it, I can let the existence of these videos & spoilers wash over me without impact, but FFS, the game has only been out 4 days, how greedy are people to get their 'clicks' ???

Well, I never said it was a bad game... I guess some players were just frusted with prequel after prequel that they were starting to feel like cash grabs. Indeed. It was more a question of diminishing returns. God of War was beginning to play itself out, the series wasn't adding anything new or amazing to combat this, and some of the mechanics in Ascension felt weaker. Literally too, as I remember the grapple mechanics came at the price of the general hack and slash feeling less effective and less awesome. Also the magic wasn't as good compared to previous installments. Though as I say that, I'm still in a conundrum. God of War did play itself out, in terms of story and gameplay. Another game wasn't needed but if you must make one, common sense dictates a different tack is needed for both aspects. That being said from what I've seen of the gameplay of the new one it seems... competent and fun. But something is off. And more to the point, as I load up some classic God of War music, I can't help but want to return to fiery swords swinging high, entire fields of enemies being slaughtered, insane magic going off and a savage ashy bald man screaming- as that is the true sound of mythology getting absolutely rekt.

I follow PrettyGoodGaming on YouTube. It's one of the few channels I follow. They don't do reviews, but rather present gaming news and share opinions. They did the video I've linked below in which they are very positive about this game. Gareth is an unapologetic PC gamer, and even he was impressed. (Off topic: So many d-bags ripped off their "thumbnail design" that they had to update it a bit. They must be doing something right, I guess.)
Anyway, here's a spoiler-free video:
