This reboot now makes this a franchise that I can actually like. If this reboot can be considered the first one in the franchise -forgetting the ones before it. Since Kratos voice actually matches his character now... Couldn't stand him before -his voice didn't carry the weight it should have. What I felt before is take the character of Superman combined with the voice of Pee-Wee Herman. THAT is what the original games of the franchise were like to me... However now I can get behind the latest one which has been well done with the new voice actor for Kratos: Oh and a little FYI This rebooted Kratos is voiced by Christopher Judge. Yep Kratos is Teal'c from Stargate. Thank goodness for heightened hearing... among other heightened senses...except my vision... If could fix the latter be on my way to being:

God of War: Ghost of Sparta was quite moving... Mechanically and visually not quite the best, but a touching story and again enjoyable. He's rather hard to please is Kratos, getting a bit too big for his boots. Let's see where God of War II takes the story.

Well, I never said it was a bad game... I guess some players were just frusted with prequel after prequel that they were starting to feel like cash grabs. Indeed. It was more a question of diminishing returns. God of War was beginning to play itself out, the series wasn't adding anything new or amazing to combat this, and some of the mechanics in Ascension felt weaker. Literally too, as I remember the grapple mechanics came at the price of the general hack and slash feeling less effective and less awesome. Also the magic wasn't as good compared to previous installments.Though as I say that, I'm still in a conundrum. God of War did play itself out, in terms of story and gameplay. Another game wasn't needed but if you must make one, common sense dictates a different tack is needed for both aspects. That being said from what I've seen of the gameplay of the new one it seems... competent and fun. But something is off. And more to the point, as I load up some classic God of War music, I can't help but want to return to fiery swords swinging high, entire fields of enemies being slaughtered, insane magic going off and a savage ashy bald man screaming- as that is the true sound of mythology getting absolutely rekt. I beg to differ. Ascension has one of the best magic out of the entire series.

Thoroughly enjoying the reboot. Characters really perform for the player, sound and art design is right on the money, gameplay is super-satisfying and the writing is rock solid.

"The road ahead is unforgiving, no place for a pupper. You must be a good boi." *bork* True the road is unforgiving in GoW but nevertheless he looks kinda badass to me so i think he can pull it off.

He's rather hard to please is Kratos, getting a bit too big for his boots. Let's see where God of War II takes the story. lol, saying this before God of War 2 is quite amusing. You'll find out why I beg to differ. Ascension has one of the best magic out of the entire series. Incorrect, the magic felt like an afterthought and clearly "like GoW3 except we can't give him the Claws of Hades and other stuff yet". And while the actual magical bursts aren't bad (Hades and Zeus at least, Poseidon while cool, was rarely useful and Ares flat out sucked), the amount of times you could actually use those without new game plus was atrocious. Not to mention that after six games with so many different magic attacks and weapons, simply making the Blades of Chaos glow different colors when you held down R2 or whatever it was, just wasn't going to cut it. At least when they did that in (Ghost of Sparta?) it served a purpose, and they built a mechanic around it. I don't recall Ascension making much of their energy swap, other than changing what orbs you get.

Just a few observations
When seeing a chest that has 3 symbols/glyhs on them, at times it can be frustrating locating them to get the chest open.
When rowing the boat, breaking the barrels in the water gives loot. And at the speed Kratos is rowing, he could cross the Atlantic in no time.
As I said, the boy can be annoying in combat, but the dialogue between the son and the head is very interesting. When they talk, I stop what I'm doing to listen to what they have to say. The player learns a lot about the lore and past of why this, that and the other thing happened.

lol, saying this before God of War 2 is quite amusing. You'll find out why Ah yes, the 'store all your powers in this sword...' trick, that gets them every time. Oops... More generally, you can really tell GoWII is a 'main entry', it's a step up all around from the 'Chains/Ghost/Ascension' installments.

I still own a copy of the original PS2 game. The soundtrack was so legendary that some scores even made it to GoW3. Not because the devs were lazy, but because they were just that good.

God of War and Metal Gear are the only franchises where I legit bought copies for multiple platforms. Not at full price mind you, but still, that doesn't come lightly.
Well, technically Prototype is a third, but I bought the Steam copy for a friend.

This new God Of War is amazing. I've been wanting them to head north since the PS2 and it's finally happened.
I'm very much enjoying the game and so far I really only have one misgiving. The music. It's seems to hardly be there. In fact I can't recall hearing any. I know I have it's just not memorable at all.

How about that. I just learned that the Leviathan axe cannot get the last upgrade until the game is completed. That doesn't make sense. I went to Niflheim to explore and get the materials needed for the upgrade, but the game won't let me. I guess I'll finish the game to get the upgrade and then go back to finish collecting all the collectibles.

There is the killzone series, infamous, resistance, metal gear solid, Yakuza. And a few others. You should try them out if you ever have the chance.

Good point, I'll check what else is on there that's interesting. I find the 'streaming service' works rather well.
