First The Expanse, then a week later the Witcher series... and I still don't have my living room with my surround sound TV back (renovation delays) and I'm getting a rescue shelter dog on Dec 21st and will be preoccupied. Oh well. That sounds cool, can I go watch at your house? I barely have a living room myself (if we can call it living room at all). JK, realistically I like to watch movies or tv shows on my own and alone. Don't want anybody making sounds or interrupting, nor to be biased towards the thing being good or bad because the other person is also watching. My parents also recently got a dog from the streets, I actually suggested them to do so a while back. It's one that's always been around and they already fed and whatnot. When I went to check out on them a few weeks ago the dog was already living there, didn't like me very much though. And I'm like bitch I vouched for you! Whatever, at least the other doggos do like me. We have strict rules when watching something new as I too hate being asked a million questions and being distracted. I am great with dogs we have had them all my life but its funny how a dog will just not like you sometimes one of our neighbours dogs are like that. Barks at me always but never anyone else!!!!

When I went to check out on them a few weeks ago the dog was already living there, didn't like me very much though. And I'm like bitch I vouched for you! Whatever, at least the other doggos do like me. I like watching stuff unbiased by myself too. I rarely watch TV in the living room when I'm alone though, ironically. I usually watch on my laptop and don't even bother to plug in the headphone, so that I can watch lying on my side. I'm worried the first thing the dog will chew up are the cables of my electronic equipment, lol. So maybe it's a blessing in disguise that my living room is sealed off (had skylights put in and they've been leaking for months, hence the delay, renovations started in August...) The dog will stay downstairs with my mom for a while. We share my grandparents' house, you see. It used to be my uncle's apartment, I still pay him rent, haha.
Our first dog died 9 years ago already when I was in college... I still miss him every day. The new dog loves people so I hope he'll be relaxed when he gets to meet the rest of the family and friends eventually. Bring your parents' dog some treats. That should do the trick. I remember only too well our last puppy, he was a nightmare the first few days and nights, harder work than our two kids were when they were born. We are going to try for as young as possible, our last dog passed away a year or so ago so we don't want to get an older one in case something happens, don't want the kids to go through that again. I hope our dog will be less work than a newborn baby, but if not then maybe I'll be ready for kids after all. He's currently 3,5 years old. But we've been warned he's going to act up and test our leadership skills just the same as an adolescent. I too don't want to lose another dog too soon again. We got lucky our first dog of 10 at his arrival lived another 4,4 years. But his mercy death after a stroke still haunts me...
Sorry for the off topic chatter!

Just finished season 4 last night. I read the first couple books but not the rest, so I cannot claim I am in the 'read it all' club like I was for GoT. It was hard to walk away from because EVERY SINGLE EPISODE ENDS IN A CLIFFHANGER. EVERY SINGLE ONE! Give me a break for a minute Amazon. lol. Hell, the damn season ends with some major league next season bait. That said, I look forward to the next season. I'm probably going to give the series a full go over again. I rate this season somewhere between 8.75/10 to 9.25/10 (not sure). Not perfect, but can strongly recommend to anyone. Some of my thoughts
The Good A first real look at the nitty gritty of Mars-we'd seen Earth a lot and the Belt in abundance, but not so much of Mars. It is heavily implied that Mars is in decline on several occasions, though no attempt is made to explain why. Bobby is still sort of a Martian Brienne of Tarth, but this season humanized her quite a bit in a way previous seasons did not. She pretty much continues on her path of sold out patriot to disillusioned outsider.
Avasarala, Amos, 'Miller,' and Bobby were all great.
The Bad Several key characters from previous seasons were more or less absent for no discernible reason. I'm not opposed to the focus on the smaller character set, but I was confused on why certain ones got the spotlight and others did not. I don't believe Anderson Dawes was in the season at all, Fred Johnson was essentially a cameo with an utterly ridiculous haircut (was laughing when I saw it). I guess my primary complaint was I wanted more of something that was not Holden. If there was less Holden and more of everyone else, I'd probably be overjoyed. Also, if you really liked the stuff in space, most of this season was planetside, so you're SOL.
Naomi's whole character arc this season was more or less 'having trouble with this whole gravity thing.' She doesn't get into anything else until they are setting up the next season. She more or less serves as a Belter sympathizer and serves little other purposes.
James Holden continues to be his 'Messiah Complex' self-no surprise there. It was almost Bioware-level 'you're the only one that can save us' at times. This is most notable with the blindness thing. It just comes across as contrived and annoying at times.
Alex is something of a wingman character, i.e. Hawkeye in Avengers. He's there, but there isn't much focus on him. He's not bad, but he's not really great.
Random thoughts I pity my boy Amos. He had something good going there for a minute. A shame. I don't think he did anything 'wrong' considering the situations he was put in, but the outcome still stings.
There seems to be this weird dual nature when it comes to making money between the Belters and everyone else. When the Belters refused to drop some ore to save their ship, I was just... what? That seems a bit greedy.
The OPA also continues to be this weird dual nature between perpetual victimhood and shameless thuggery and/or terrorism. The corporate scumlord and the belter doctor is a token example of this. Both of their motives were shit, and she killed far more people than he did (at least in the season). The only difference was that she had some remorse, and he did not. Then again, Naomi probably killed far more than either of them, although she claims to have been an unwilling accomplice. I suppose it's all part of the Belter narrative (the future vs. the past, do we hold on to the grudges or do we try to abandon them for prosperity and options?), but it still strikes me as strange.
Bobby looks like she'll be in future seasons.

I am up to episode 8 and will watch the last two tonight. This book (book 4) was one of my favourites and hasn't let me down so far although some of the changes from the book are confusing me in particular with Bobbie's story line.

Re some of your spoiler stuff: In terms of Holden's role whilst very much the same in the book I think it was better portrayed due to a lot of internal monologues IIRC and the setting was slightly different.
In the books Naomi's story is completely different (until episode 8) but having cut certain characters they had to shoe horn her into the main story line which is a shame. I thought the books Naomi story for season 4 was far better.
I agree re the OPA and Belter stuff and it has thrown me a bit because there are some characters that have been dropped from the books. That has muddied the waters in terms of the factions and the story I think but it becomes MUCH clearer in the next books and thus the series I assume.
Bobbies part in this series is based on her "Origin" story but it seems very different to me in the TV Show than what's in the book but maybe my old brain is muddling things.

I've enjoyed being able to binge watch all 10 Eps in one day. My least favorite season so far story wise (Ilus and to a lesser extent also Earth) Howver I've enjoyed the story threads of Mars and Belt the overall picture quality and set presentation was cinematic-movie like and epic. I tipp my Miller hat off to the art, set and filming department. Shame Ashford was airlocked. I'm gonna miss that character a lot. Amos was awesome, badass, lethal, cool, funny, but also vulnerable. Can't wait for Season 5> Bobbi to team up with Avarasala and where that Earth/Mars/Belt story leads.

So finished watching The Expanse last night, this is my favourite of all the books except for "Tiamat's Wrath" but I thought this season was let down by prior decisions to remove characters and the impact that had on this seasons storyline, in particular Naomi's role.
Also certain parts of the books plot (some to accommodate missing characters) were changed, as were parts of the plot of Bobbies Origin story that appear in season 4. Certain parts of the storyline were shrunk reducing the import or tension and impact which was a shame. Also I didn't like the recasting of Avarsarala's husband the new guy really doesn't fit the character of Arjun in the books.
I am going to re-read the book then watch the season again because so many little things are nagging at me and I can't remember them all.
That said it was still good fun and I enjoyed it, very much looking forward to next season.

Finished the first season after reading the first book... Some quick thoughts: Holden is even more of an a-hole with a Messiah complex than he was in the book if that's possible - very difficult to swallow as a character... And props to Thomas Jane , Shohreh Aghdashloo and Wes Chatham for their excellent play! Now looking forward to binge watching Season 2...

I thought it was great too but I didn't like the departures from the books especially Bobbies and Naomi's storyline. I thought Naomi's storyline was nowhere near as good as the completely different one in the book but the producers forced that on themselves by cutting Havelock I guess, although not really sure if he died previously in the show or not, it sort of was left hanging, pun intended. Also I thought that left Alex's role aboard The Roci understated. The extended chase in the Amos v Murtry and Wei also felt like it had more tension in the book. But as you said it was still good. Is there any info on when season 5 will release?

Finished the first season after reading the first book... Some quick thoughts: Holden is even more of an a-hole with a Massiah complex than he was in the book if that's possible - very difficult to swallow as a character... And props to Thomas Jane , Shohreh Aghdashloo and Wes Chatham for their excellent play! Now looking forward to binge watching Season 2... Yeah, I also found myself kind of low key hating the character, but more so in the book than the show. Actually, does it stand out to everyone else just how much the books and to a lesser degree the show try to go out of the way emphasize that all the villains are sociopaths? And only sociopaths could do the terrible things the villains do? I thought that was a little weird. (Iβve only read through Cibola Burn)

It doesn't come across so well in the show but in the books it is what draws Naomi to him and then when he becomes too black and white about it she leaves him until he finds himself again.

In addition: It's why Amos sticks with him. Amos knows he's one of those sociopaths and could as easily be one of those villains. Holden, he knows, will ALWAYS do "the right thing" no matter how illogical or stupid it may seem. So if he sticks with Holden and follows his lead, he's most likely doing a "good" thing.

Yeah, but why would a sociopath be concerned about ''doing the right thing'' in the first place?

Yeah, but why would a sociopath be concerned about ''doing the right thing'' in the first place? Good question! He's probably not, but I lack all the info as I'm only on both season 2 and "Caliban's war" atm. He might be more than a simple sociopath, but I don't know... Also season 2 is by far the best show I saw in a long, long time ...
