A thread dedicated to discussion and appreciation of Felassan from The Masked Empire, a.k.a. Best Elf. Love him? Hate him? What do you wish you could have learned about him in TME? Do you have any theories you’d like to share? What do you think is his favorite ice cream flavor? Does he even like ice cream? Want to share fics and art about him? _へ__(‾◡◝ )> Resources - the Felassan shrine: Felassan page on the Dragon Age wiki.Felassan tag on tumblr - Includes both art and text posts, currently trying to figure out a way to gather only and all the Felassan art in one place. Felavellan tag on tumblr - For the Felassan/Lavellan ship. The one Felavellan fic on AO3 - It's an overwhelming selection, I KNOW, but hey, there are at least 3 people I know who ship this ship, so write something for us! Smoke - a fic about Felassan and Lavellan saying goodbye on tumblr. It will break your heart. Felassan Pinterest board. Includes some art and inspiration. Felassan portrait by our CapricornSun - reposted with permission from her Tumblr and DeviantArt.

I still find myself wondering if he's truly dead or just "dead in the Fade" and walking about Tranquil somewhere to be a plot mcguffin for DA4.

I still find myself wondering if he's truly dead or just "dead in the Fade" and walking about Tranquil somewhere to be a plot mcguffin for DA4. I've wondered that too. On the one hand, we see killing someone in the Fade makes them Tranquil in the waking world. And it would be a convenient way to bring him back, since Weekes left his end sufficiently vague. On the other hand, someone with considerable power in the Fade like Solas might have the ability to actually kill. In addition, Felassan himself says about one of the elves sleeping in uthenera that they could kill from the Fade. And then there's what Cole said in Trespasses, "His friend had to die, because he thought they were people." So these suggest he indeed died. Not that he wouldn't be able to come back, still. They've resurrected several characters so far.

I love Felassan.
I have also wondered if he's tranquil or actually dead... ancient elves probably have different connection to the fade than modern people of Thedas, so that and what Cole says does make it seem like he could be dead. And Solas is very much opposed to making anyone tranquil (Greatly Disapproves if you do that to Erimond but Approves if you kill him, so really I can't see him doing to that to someone who was once his friend...)
Either way I would absolutely LOVE it if he somehow does become a companion in DA4! I would like nothing more than my Lavellan to meet him and get to know him. Ah, TME is my favorite DA book and that's mostly because of Felassan. Such a wonderfully written character I can't get enough of him.

I think that may be if a Dreamer kills you in the Fade then you are dead. In DA2 we could make Feynriel tranquil by killing him in the Fade but he was the Dreamer and Hawke was the ordinary mage or non-mage in the Fade. So as Fen'Harel is a powerful Dreamer, I think Cole was probably reporting correctly on the matter. After all Felassan was fully expecting to die.

I'd assume dead. Mainly for the reasons that have already been posted - but there's also the issue that Bioware has gotten a lot of complaints about how they include characters from novels in the game. They might be more reluctant to include them again...

He did seem like he was preparing to die, gervaise.
(Once thing that always bothered me is that his body would just be left there. For anything to possess it. There used to be the theory that Fen'harel is possessing Felassan's body, but since it was discredited, any other spirit could take over, if it happens to be there at the time.)
But on the other hand - maybe he was expecting to become Tranquil, which for him could be worse than death. We saw he was hesitant, considered running, but maybe it was because it was Tranquility that frightened him.
(Personally, it hurts a lot to think of him as Tranquil, but that's not an argument, of course. )

Chances are slim, I know, but I'll never give up hope of him returning some day, not unless DA400 is over, the series ends, and in the ending slides they say, "Felassan is GONE. Truly GONE. Get over him, folks!" Or maybe even then I'll find some way of reviving him in headcanon I can't give up on Best Elf.

I think if there's a way for Solas to kill Felassan instead of make him Tranquil, he would do that, just to save his friend from a fate that he considers too horrible.
But if the only option was to make Felassan Tranquil, he might do it anyway, feeling that he has no choice, but keeping his plan safe is the only option.

I've heard of him spoken of from the novels and though I never read it, I'd have loved to meet him in game. Kinda the opposite of what happened with Kai Leng. He's in game and I wished he stayed in the novels.

the BEST ELF I like him more than Solas lmao lays flowers on his grave and cries into hanky Thanks for crying with me, hahren! I know it's mostly fanon, but I love the idea of Solas and Felassan being friends, best buddies even. Felassan didn't just worship him from afar, they were actively bros: got drunk together, chased ladies in and outside of the Fade together, Felassan made fun of Solas' murals, and they also fought together and probably had a good cry when the elven empire fell. How do you guys think Felassan felt about Solas killing him? I can't help but think he still loved Solas, understood what he did was betrayal, and accepted Solas would do what he must.

Since he believed this world was worth saving why didn't he fight Solas instead of surrendering?

He seemed to know very well what was going to happen and even if he hesitated I don't think he regretted his decision. I just wonder why did he allow it to happen? Since he believed this world was worth saving why didn't he fight Solas instead of surrendering? Ahhhh OMG - this is THE question that's been on my mind for a while. Why not go rogue and work against Solas' plan? There are a few reasons I can think of, and probably a lot more: 1. I think part of him thought he deserved to die for his betrayal. He must've felt very guilty. Remember his nostalgia when he was telling Michel about the days of the ancient elven empire. I think Felassan loved his people just as much as Solas did. It was not an easy decision for him to give up on working to restore them. I really wish we could have seen some of that inner conflict in the book, his thoughts when he struggles with his choice. 2. He seemed to really look up to Solas, as well as fear him. So maybe he thought he couldn't fight Solas, that there would be no way he could win, or that he couldn't stand the thought of going against his friend. 3. Finally, I think he might've been just tired. It seemed he had been wandering in the waking world and acting as an agent for many years. That has got to take a tall on you and make you a little bitter. Not that he wanted to die, but he might've thought he's just tired of fighting. If Solas says he's tired of fighting, and Solas has been in the Fade most of the time, imagine how it must feel for an agent that is in the waking world and does the dirty work. (I wonder if the agents have some rotation system - you serve for a few decades, then someone replaces you and you go into uthenera for a while to rest, and also so that nobody finds it suspicious that the same guy has been hanging around for 100 years and doesn't seem all that aged.)
