I am not sure I can agree with this. If I only get one apple per day and I am supposed to keep anyone away with it by throwing said apple, doesn't that imply that the second person approaching me on that day will already have thwarted the entire plan? Now, of course, I could potentially go and retrieve the apple after having thrown it in order to reuse it but if there are multiple people approaching me (which is the real danger to this paradigm in the first place), there is a very high probability that another person will pick up the apple in self defense, especially if they close in on me in pairs (pairs, not pears mind you, this is not a fruit pun post). In any case, I end up out of ammunition very quickly.

Maybe we should consider this postulate in a more theoretical sense though. Given adequate technology, I could potentially throw the apple hard enough, so that the impact releases enough energy to do serious damage to my surroundings, killing everyone in the vicinity and thus really keeping anyone away. Yes, this action would also kill me but technically, it still fulfills the premise. However, I doubt that the specific density of any apple is high enough, such that it would survive atmospheric friction on the way to the target at the speeds required. "Haha" I hear you saying "but what if you throw the apple in a vacuum?" Good point! But I would point out that, since the conundrum we are contemplating here specifically involves people and since in a vacuum everyone would have to wear a space suit which in and of itself is a fully self-sustained micro-environment, the space suit alone is already keeping anyone away from you in any conceivable fashion and therefore, the subject matter of this particular theorem (a.k.a. the apple) becomes entirely irrelevant.

So in conclusion I find this statement rather confusing but I do hope I am not overthinking this.
