I suppose context might be needed for those unfamiliar with this franchise. Alright extremely short version of the backstory: Erik here the man in the giant robot that lives in this scene is a former ace pilot of a now defunct country within space known as the Principality of Zeon which ceased to exist as its own state roughly two years prior to the events of the game. He was a devoted soldier to the cause of Zeon and seeing so many of its young men and women give their lives for a dream of freedom and Independence that ultimately amounted to all of nothing he was driven to like many Zeon were in the coming years to acts that would be classified as terrorism. During the course of the game he along with several other Zeon remnant soldiers engage in a guerrilla war with the Earth Federation (the governing body of Earth and the state that Zeon was at war with during the course of the One Year War in which Zeon ceased to exist) which ultimately culminates in them seizing a old Zeon artillery position on the moon and preparing its mass drive to bombard Earth with a nuclear shell aimed at a crucial military facility in Europe. At the culmination of this tale he defeats one of the Federation pilots he had engaged with three times before(two times in the prior war and once earlier in the game) within his Gundam and orders the shelling to commence. As for why its emotional well. He goes the distance if you pick his campaign, despite all the odds and the Federation throwing a considerable task force against them a handful of old soldiers hold the base long enough for the mass drive to come online, begin targeting and prepare to fire and then in the moment of triumph... That's where Erik Blanke's story ends one way or the other. He's never mentioned again in any Gundam media be it in followup games or materials.

NWN2: MotB. The whole reveal about Gann's mother. Her son's anger, trailing her through the Skein, listening to her eery, madness-induced ramblings echo off the walls, learning that she had to eat her lover alive as punishment for falling in love with him. Simultaneously creepy and heart-wrenching. And then there's Gann's uncharacteristic rage afterward as he sets off to punish the Slumbering Coven... *shudders*

The scene in Spec Ops the Line. The one right after using the mortar.
It really was: "No...no way" *actually puts up emotional shields* "omg".
Its the only game, that hit me that hard. And It hit me, hard.
I've had others too. That reveal in KotOR shocked me, but it wasn't that emotional. I really enjoy the final scene from freelancer, it made me chuckle. But no other game has hit me that hard, as Spec Ops the Line.
Edit: I actually forgot I posted in this thread before.
I can't say I cried, or felt overly depressed from that scene. But I put down the game right after that scene, for a week. Just to process what I had just witnessed, and done in the game.
I picked it back up, and played about 2/3 of the rest of the game. But I didn't finish it. Mostly because of that scene, but partly because of frustrations from dying over and over in specific fights.
I will say, I let that one guy burn alive. I don't even remember what he did to me in the game. But after going through the rest of the game, and being actually emotionally affected the way I was, I felt that guy didn't deserve a quick death.
I quit the game, shortly after that.
Suffice it to say, I don't think about Spec Ops that much. But when I do, I will say its an awesome game. Not because of the game play, or the mechanics. But because its the only game, to date, that has ever emotionally affected me to that extent. And for that alone, I will always recommend it to everyone I ever talk to about it.

If we're talking about Bioware, Mordin's death gets me every time. For anything else: the Walking Dead Season 1 ending and the Last of Us (Sarah and the ending) are runner-ups. I've also recently played an indie game called Detention. It started creepily, the final part is one big massive tearjerker though.

The final scene as Emile in Valiant Hearts: The Great War really got to me. I thought it was a perfect interaction of gameplay and narrative with the way you had to control him as he walks towards the firing squad - if you try to change direction or stop, you get the guards coming up behind him. A simple thing, but it worked. And especially depressing since that was something that actually happened regularly during WWI.

Thrall and Grom vs Mannoroth in Warcraft 3. "Thrall, i have finally freed myself" says Grom as he is about to die
"No my friend. you freed us all" Walking Dead Season 1's ending, Loghain in Dragon Age Inquisition, Danganronpa 2's last case. Prince of Persia trilogy had several moments that got me like the Prince's epiphany moment. i feel like SOMA's ending deserves a honorable mention too xD

Final Fantasy X... the invasion of Home and the ending are some of the biggest moments in gaming to me.
Crisis Core... knew it was coming, but those damn slots breaking broke the dam.
Tales of Vesperia... That moment when the main character isn't the bleeding heart wuss.
Pick your poison from Bioware... Tuchanka, suicide run, and now the temple and ending of Andromeda from ME and practically all of Inquisition and Origins.
Diablo II... that ending was haunting. Still is. Amazing.

Whole lotta spoilers so: Final Fantasy VII - Aeris/Aerith murder/death (yeah, I cried my eyes out. I was 12 and she was my favourite character in the game. It was like someone ripped my heart out at the moment because I never experienced the loss of a character I liked and that was this important for a story at that moment. My grandma came in, worried and asked what happened. I tried to explain but she couldn't understand me thanks to my sobbing)
So I got punched in the face again in Crisis Core (I knew what was coming with Zack in the end but man, my tears were like waterfalls - a lot to the amusement of my best friend who lend me his PSP and watched me crying on his couch)
One of the best passionate fighting moments I had in Tales of the Borderlands in the power rangers like final fight. Same feeling I had beating everyone in Tekken 3 with Xiaoyu to dust.
I was a very proud 11 year old after I first beat Commander Keen without dying once.
Same feeling I got after beating Devil May Cry 3 with all characters on S-Rank & the first Boss in Dark Souls 2 & 3. Never touched this two games again afterwards so, because I'm not good with too much challenge in a game.
I was very emotional while watching Emil's & NieR's selfsacrafice in NieR and I really adored every ending. I felt really attached to all the characters in this game.
My biggest fears I felt in Vampire's the Masquerade Ocean House. Man I can run blindly through it, but I always have that weird knot in my stomach - and then all these voices and all - very atmosphere heavy, well done lvldesigning to this day.

Planescape: Torment - Deionnara's story, and saying farewell to your comrades at the ending. Mass Effect 3 - Mordin's death, the ending AFTER the Extended Cut was released (yeah it got me, sometimes I'm just a teddybear). Bioshock 2: Minerva's Den - ending. Bioshock Infinite: Burial at Sea 2 - ending again. Freespace 2 - destruction of the Colossus. The Witcher 3 - Bloody Baron questline.

This scene in TW2 struck more than anything in any video game, because it seemed to be commentary on faith/delusion and the notion of false comfort in dire situations. Cedric is dying, he's cynical and a drunk, but in his last breath he seems to think, as an elf, the forest is welcoming him back. Geralt looks at the forest and sees nothing. Because nothing is there. That's Geralt's perspective. He's a pragmatist. This sums up Geralt from the books as well as anything CDPR has done...then they released the EE, with bunnies and deer in the scene, which destroys any meaning it had and I'm left wondering if any of it was deliberate in the first place.

That part at the end of disc 1 of FFVII, you'll know what I mean if you've played it, the ending of The Last of Us. And this one might be a bit more obscure, but near the end of Soul Reaver 2, plus the ending cutscene. Man I love that series so much, if only they had continued after Defiance, which yeah, that ending of Defiance...
