A good read, differs from the anime a lot but still remains true to it.

Sorry to hear that, GRRM. Ofcourse he would name his cat Caligula. It's not too great tbh. I changed my mind, it gets pretty good about half way through.

Rereading the old Dresden Files novels, it still holds up as decent Noir styled Dark Fantasy.

I need a new science fiction author who writes a series of books in the same world/universe to gloam on to again. Any suggestions? (The last time I asked this people pointed me to ian bankes for which I am forever grateful.)

Have you read Allen Steele? His Coyote books are all in the same universe. Arkwright (above) is not in that setting.
If you favour quantity over quality, Chris Nuttall writes faster than most folks can read. He has several series going. On the other end of the spectrum, Ann Leckie has a three book series that has won all kinds of awards.

Wee bit of Byzantine politics. I really like the art on this cover, shows all the characters and the plot.

I'm re-reading The Mark of the Lion series by Francine Rivers! I'm less religious than I was the first time I read it so some of it reads differently but I still like the heroine.

(The last time I asked this people pointed me to ian bankes for which I am forever grateful.) Isaac Asimov's Foundation series (spoilers a few in that wiki, be warned) if you haven't tackled (unlikely i guess) that one yet. A few others of his pieces are also kinda on the fringes/precursors for that universe setting as well

I refuse to get an Amazon Prime subscription to watch this series. So what did I do? Started reading the book, which is probably better anyway.

According to Goodreads, I'm reading 23 books. However, that's only because I looked at my Kindle and marked every book I read even a page of as "currently reading". Reading maybe two books, "The Ascendant Stars" (paperback) and some likely crappy "romance" book on Kindle called "Crash" that I'm bound to dislike as I do most m/m romance novels written by women. I just don't learn.

12 rules for life: an antidote to chaos "There is very little difference between the capacity for mayhem and destruction, integrated, and strength of character. This is one of the most difficult lessons of life." I like this book so far. It reminds me of Machiavelli's The Prince in a way, with its brutal honesty about human nature. But Machiavelli was all about knowing and using (perhaps exploiting) human nature to achieve one's goals and survival. Peterson is about using human to discover the root cause of the things that are driving you crazy.

Hmm... another part of Peterson's book:
"Of course, it's easier in the moment to stay silent and avoid conflict. But in the long term, that's deadly. When you have something to say, silence is a lie-and tyranny feeds on lies. When should you push back against oppression, despite the danger? When you start nursing secret fantasies of revenge,; when your life is being poisoned and your imagination fills with the wish to devour and destroy."

I got to meet Richard Morgan and Peter F Hamilton today at a book signing. I am still squeeeing. (Bear with me, I've never been to a book signing/panel thing before.) Also found out the copy of Altered Carbon I have, in the big paperback size, from 2002, is one of only 2000-5000 printed when that edition came out and I got it signed today too, squeeeee! My best buddy bought that copy for me for my birthday 15 years ago, so I now I will be returning the favour as I got my mate a new copy signed, and saying Happy Birthday from Richard Morgan! Now I have to keep quiet until the end of May when I can give him it!! Ok, as you were, but I've been so hyper I had to share! I guess I'll be reading The Reality Dysfunction and Altered Carbon again (again) over the next few weeks!
