Not bad so far. Just finished this book. And...it wasn't bad. It wasn't stellar either. I'd give it a 7/10. There were some things I wish they'd expand upon (the hull of the ships for ex). But overall, it was a decent ride. So much so, that I'm thinking of picking up the second book in the series, to see if they improve the few bad spots this book had. I will say, the main character does have some puzzling qualities, that I hope they expand upon. the biggest thing is the main characters reaction to finding out his resident spy broke into his quaters, stole a uniform of his, and modified it to fit herself. Why isn't he the least bit angry that she broke into his quaters? The other thing is his reasoning for pursuing and trying to kill, the main nemisis. He's 19, his first love is killed. And that fills him with enough rage to want to kill at least 30 people. People who are trying to kill others, sure. But they are still people. I feel like I need more information on why he's ok with ending so much life, and not having a problem with it.

Pretty funny. Lampoons unimaginative RPGs and cliched fantasy stories.

Also pretty gud. Wish I could get a different POV than Garion though. I think all the main series books are from his pov. There are two "autobiographies" Polgara the Sorceress and Belgareth the Sorcerer which are written from their own pov

Was in the mood for a billion page epic so decided to check this out. According to Kindle I'm only 35% of the way through and I swear I've been reading it for a week I've had this on my list for ages, but I've been told that it's really boring.

According to Kindle I'm only 35% of the way through and I swear I've been reading it for a week I've had this on my list for ages, but I've been told that it's really boring. Perhaps in the first half of the book, but once it gets going I guarantee it's worth it. And while it was slow to get into things, I put that down to the writer establishing the lore and the background. This isn't such a bad idea, as I tried to get into another series, Steven Erikson's Malazan Empire. Now, while the premise and everything sounded good on paper, Erikson does a shitty job at establishing characters and plots by jumping straight to the action. I was bored after a few chapters, and have since abandoned that series. Memory, Sorrow and Thorn is by no means perfect. For one, the main char is an annoying 14 year old boy, and much of that first half of the book centres on him. He eventually becomes a bit of a "special snowflake" and when his character is developed more under certain uh.. circumstances, he does become more likeable. But everything else about these books so far, is engrossing and keeps me wanting to read more. So much so, I jumped straight to the second in the series.

If you think that's long wait till you get to the third book "To Green Angel Tower" The paperback had to be released in two volumes! Though I think Brandon Sanderson said "Hold my beer" when confronted with that challenge. His Stormlight Archive series thus far has three thousand page+ volumes, and that's of a projected TEN book series!

I sort of got used to these long epics with the wheel of time series, and somewhat enjoyed them until book seven when I got sick of hearing about what different shade of green and brown dresses the main female chars were wearing. I shit you not they would go on for pages.. I will give it another shot one day though.

This is due out in May...
Anyone else get that SlenderMan feel from this besides me? I need a new science fiction author who writes a series of books in the same world/universe to gloam on to again. Any suggestions? (The last time I asked this people pointed me to ian bankes for which I am forever grateful.) Isaac Asimov's Foundation series (spoilers a few in that wiki, be warned) if you haven't tackled (unlikely i guess) that one yet. A few others of his pieces are also kinda on the fringes/precursors for that universe setting as well Read these when I was 12. I liked the plot twist at the very end.... or was it the end. The whole purpose of the Foundation was a lie. Also another Trilogy for people to look at:

The rise in quality was noteworthy.

Starting a new book and new (to me) author: The Warp is perfectly safe, its creators claimed. The single greatest advance in computer technology since the invention of the microchip, the Warp is a virtual reality gaming system so advanced that players aren’t just in the game, they are the game. And inside the Warp lies the most cunning of all games, the de facto king of online gaming. It is the one game said to be unbeatable: Crisis. The Warp was flawless, and the game was perfect. Until something went terribly wrong, trapping Tori Adams and her friends inside it, unable to log off and free their minds from the uploaded virus in their brains. With no other options available and time running out, they must do the one thing that has never been done before—what experts say can’t be done—they must beat Crisis in order to save their lives. Armed only with their computer skills and whatever the out-of-control game grants them, the group must battle impossible odds and confront their own demons if they want to survive. With an unseen enemy hot on their trail and tensions running high, they must learn to trust each other more than they had ever thought possible. Especially since one of them is a traitor.

The War of the Roses are about to break out, the Rosebloods are a rather minor family that's strength lies in dominating the dregs of society. It was a really fun read, however the author doesn't look like he's going to make it into a series and the story doesn't rap up well enough on its own to forgive that.

And i finally bought the first two DA books so i`m also reading "the stolen throne": I read that one! It was an interesting read, and you find out some neat stuff about the elves and king Marrik (I think thats his name from DA1). I won't go into details for fear of spoilage, but that's a good book.

I read that series ages ago. Really liked it. I still remember the line about prophecy: "Who is to say it speaks to us?"
Currently reading "The Angel's Game" by Carlos Ruiz Zafon. Sorry, no pic.
