I'm reading book 2 of the warhammer 40k Eisenhorn series. Its...interesting so far. I can't say its amazing, but I'm not 100% clear on the universe in question. So take what I say with a grain of salt.
Still, its an interesting read. And the characters seem well written.

Fucking hell, 1600 pages if you count Part Two. I can't put it down though.
I read that series ages ago. Really liked it. I still remember the line about prophecy: "Who is to say it speaks to us?"
Currently reading "The Angel's Game" by Carlos Ruiz Zafon. Sorry, no pic.
Great books, I sadly either loaned them and they were never returned or lost them moving, all except for the above but part 2.

Just found this thread, thanks melbella. I currently am trying to complete two books at the same time as well as having a pile staring accusingly at me One is Peace and War by Joe Haldeman, it is the combined trilogy based on the book The Forever War. The Forever War is brilliant but the next two books directly follow on and whilst they are in the same light hearted comedic spirit, the quality is not there. The other book I am reading is, "The Life Changing Magic of Not Giving a F**k" by Sarah Knight. It is what it is!!!!!!

LOL yeah it's just a strategy to make sure you prioritise what is really important to you and to stop worrying about what other people may or may not think.

Enjoyed the first book. Looking forward to starting this now SEQUEL TO WITCHY EYE. Next in series, which debuted with the stunningly reviewed Witchy Eye. Butler delivers another brilliant Americana flintlock fantasy novel.
TOIL AND TROUBLE
Sarah Calhoun paid a hard price for her entry onto the stage of the Empire’s politics, but she survived. Now she rides north into the Ohio and her father’s kingdom, Cahokia. To win the Serpent Throne, she’ll have to defeat seven other candidates, win over the kingdom’s regent, and learn the will of a hidden goddess—while mastering her people’s inscrutable ways and watching her own back.
In New Orleans, a new and unorthodox priest arises to plague the chevalier and embody the curse of the murdered Bishop Ukwu. He battles the chevalier’s ordinary forces as well as a troop of Old World mamelukes for control of the city and the mouth of the great Mississippi River. Dodging between these rival titans, a crew of Catalan pirates—whose captain was once a close associate of Mad Hannah Penn—grapples with the chevalier over the fate of one of their mates.
Meanwhile, a failed ceremony and a sick infant send the Anishinaabe hunter Ma’iingan on a journey across the Empire to Cavalier Johnsland, to a troubled foster child named Nathaniel. Ma’iingan is promised that Nathaniel is a mighty healer and can save his imperiled baby, but first Nathaniel—a pale young man with a twisted ear who hears the voices of unseen beings—must himself be rescued, from oppression, imprisonment, and madness.

I'm trying to read The Silmarillion but I just can't get past the beginning. The "biblical" format and repetitive "person who created this and had three different names you won't remember after the next paragraph" are just killing me. I want there to be story. I adore The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings book. I want to love this one. So far, I can't. Please tell me there's a story buried in there somewhere!

There is actually a fair amount of story. You might want to check the table of contents and skip ahead a bit.

Get to Fëanor ASAP! imo it starts to really pick up around him but I'm biased. Anyway, I know I look obsessed but Franz was my hero growing up. Since I've already read the wonderful 3 volume biography on him by Alan Walker some time ago, I thought I would give this book a shot. This book mainly covers his personal life and celebrity status rather than his music but so far it's been a fun read.

Been reading On Basilisk Station. As I believe I said somewhere I had this or the next book in a series of writing I wanted and I chose this one instead. I may be able to finally actually read the series. This long series. It has caught my attention that no matter what, it is interesting little bit of characterization from Honor that she is forced into a situation, does not like it one bit, and then finds a way of making it work no matter her own personal preferences. She has done this like three times already in just the first ten chapters of the book. I really like that about her character.

Can you believe that I, an avowed SF fan of many decades, who was alive when this book was published, never read Larry Niven's classic "Ringworld"? Now, driven by the strategy game "Stellaris" (which I highly recommend) where you can build ringworlds, among other things, I'm reading it and finding it very enjoyable.
Also, finally the concluding volume (or so I hope) of Julie E. Czerneda's 9-book Clan Chronicles has come out, with the unforgettable Sira di Sarc, intrepid Trader Jason Morgan and a plethora of characters of biologically weird non-human species. "To Guard Against The Dark" starts promising, and I have a suspicion on how it will end. We'll see.

I suppose as an update I found out much to my surprise and delight that there is actually a new Honor Harrington book coming out this year in October. So, I guess I will be reading as many of the books that I can get my hands on in order to actually hopefully be caught up when it comes out. Though it is also funny in that vein that I guess a new HH book will be out before ASOIF.

Just finished this and really enjoyed it. Wasn't sure what to expect as he's a reasonably new author (to me). The last dregs of humanity vs clever spiders... intriguing stuff and I honestly couldn't work out how it would end. Next up is a favourite author and a book of short stories, which will help tide me over until Grey Sister drops in May (can't wait for that one)

Oh, I'm used to long cycles: *Janny Wurts: The Wars of Light and Shadow: 10 doorstopper volumes, started 1992, final volume to come out soon. At least there's land in sight, unlike with GRRM. *Steven Erikson: The Malazan Book of the Fallen: 10 doorstopper volumes, finished *David Weber: Safehold: 9 doorstopper volumes, finished And countless more of the less heavy variant, though I avoided Wheel Of Time after finding the first volume excessively stereotypical and boring. I'm not sure if I want to read all of the Ringworld books, but I'll get the second one for sure.
