Will put the Dresden books on my list!!! The Dresden Files was turned into a short-lived TV series - maybe a half season? - several years ago. I was disappointed when it was cancelled since I liked the guy playing Harry (Paul something). I bought several of the books but have yet to read them. (I seem to say that about a lot of books I have. ) Paul Blackthorne The tv series had very little to do with the books. Not that the series was bad. Just...not Dresden. The guy who played Bob was pretty good.

Yeah the merged books with Shanara aren't bad but they are a bit "shallow" I only realised recently it has been ages since the last one actually and I cannot find when the next one is to be released. Will put the Dresden books on my list!!! Just a word of warning, the first couple of books are generally considered the weakest in the series (there are currently fifteen books out, plus two short story collections and several comic books) Book 3 (Grave Peril) is where things really take off. 15 books!!!!! I have just read 9 The Expanse, 10 Empire of Bones and I am on 8 of 14 Honor Harrington books, going to be a serious commitment to read 15 of something!!!! Thanks for the tip re the first two books though, will have to check the price on the Kindle as if I commit to buying another 15 books I may be disowned!!!

And book 16 has reportedly just been completed. It's been five years since the last Dresden Files novel, but apparently he had a series of setbacks in his personal life (he used to crank these out every year or so), so his fans are eagerly anticipating this one. Current plans are for a total of "twentyish" case file books capped off by an "apocalyptic trilogy" Edit: Free short story on his site "Restoration of Faith" Prequel to the series: www.jim-butcher.com/books/dresden/side-jobs/restoration/

Just finished reading this: And have started the 2nd book in the series. The first book was just okay but I have the same major beef with this series as I had with some previous sci fi multi book series. Not having a good solid resolution at the end of a book. If a book does not do a good job of having a self contained story even in a series it is not a book just a 300 page part of a book.

So while since I posted on here re what I have been reading, am now on Honor Harrington book 10 War of Honor and the last time I posted was book 5.
It's been a bit of a roller coaster ride, for the most part good with the occasional really good and one low. The whole on Hell storyline and the escape was good, the current more political book is OK but not great so far.
In all honesty am looking forward to a change after I finish the next four.

Sequel to "The Minds of Men" The war had taken everything from Lina Sucherin—her parents, sisters, a fledgling romance…even her faith in herself and her psychic abilities. All of it, ripped away with the fall of the Third Reich and the brutal Soviet sack of Berlin.
Three years later, amid the suspicion, paranoia, and fledgling brutality of communist East Germany, danger threatens the only people Lina cares about, forcing her to overcome her lingering self-doubt. In order to save the only family she has left, she will have to rise above her past and learn to trust an old enemy—and herself—if she is to be successful.
But does she still have enough of her psyche left to do so? Or has the war torn her world too far asunder for it to ever be whole again?

I'm reading Beckett's Jyhad diary at the moment. It's a source book for Vampire the Masquerade and so far, I love it. My favorite scene has to be, when Beckett and Theo Bell break into one of Sascha Vykos libraries, which is located in a bordell. Theos comment:'Only you break into a whorehouse to steal a book'
Other than that, I'm reading a Steampunk novel from a friend, which is not yet published, but I hope, it does, it is really great

Well I finished 'Far From The Madding Crowd' My first Thomas Hardy book and I will read more of his stuff. Good book overall BUT...... as with so many books I do not like the way the heroine is portrayed (This is a strong willed smart heroine! Now she can act like a total dumbass for the rest of the book! A common theme in Victorian Lit it seems). The hero is pretty good throughout. One character you are supposed to hate I sympathize with, one ahole gets his competence but is lauded afterwards.
Time to decide what to read next...ponder ponder

So finished book 11 of the Honor Harrington books last night, it was a bit of a return to form after the previous book which was interesting but a bit droll. The space battles have become a bit repetitive and the detail in distances and space are growing tiresome but they are still good, have just started skipping most of that stuff. The whole Honor family arc is also getting a bit too "cute" as well but I suppose it does add another dimension to the books.

Fun fact: Honor was originally supposed to die in the Battle of Manticore at the end, paralleling the death of Admiral Horatio Nelson at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805 (of whom she was partially based on). The series would then pick up twenty years later with her kids as the central characters. But he changed his mind and McKeon died instead.

If I hadn't know there were 3 more books in the series I would have fully expected that outcome. I expected one of the main characters would die and given the mostly small part McKeon had played of late I had a feeling it would be him. I thought there for a while that Tourville may have as well but was glad he didn't and was really surprised when Giscard died earlier. Thanks for sharing that.

This series used to be my favorite (crime) novel series of all time. Definitely the best style I've ever seen in crime fiction. Such elegant writing. A joy to read. Unfortuantely it has gone to shit after 5 books. This is book 11... and I'm still here because I love these characters, and the unhappy romance between the two heroes criminal psychologist Tony Hill and policewoman Carol Jordan was and still is like crack to me. If I wasn't such a hopeless shipper I would have quit reading years ago. Because by now every new book feels like an insult.
So here I am once again witnessing how the main characters have now officially become side characters of their own series while it's painfully obvious the author would much rather write about something else. I have no idea if she's forced to publish more books by the publisher but I believe she has grown to hate these characters.
The Tony Hills series is the book format train wreck equivalent of Dexter and GoT. Fascinating and disturbing how each book in the series mirrors Dexter seasons. They should use it in a writing class as an example of everything not to do... If there are crime fiction fans among the BSN members with a particular interest in killer psychology, read the first 4 books. They are SO GOOD. Then maybe read book 5 and pretend it ends with a happily ever after. Because everything after that is unbearable misery porn with ludicrous plots and such unabashed hatred for men it makes your head spin.
Gosh how that series fell off a cliff... I will never get over it...
Anybody else feel like sharing their reading disappointments? Feel free to chime in!
