So I finally caved and read the storyboard 'spoilers' for the next movie. Truck load of salt as always as to just how true they are, but if we look at them at face value, there are a few things I like and few I really don't. Like:
Ren being a competent/clever ruler, Hux betraying him, the force bond still around. Knights of Ren popping back up.
Dislike:
the baby / leia saving Rey stuff Of course all this sounds like it was planned before Carrie Fisher died. Hux is so going to betray Ren, but it is a good thing hopefully that they are making Ren seem competent as a ruler. He gets too much grief as is and in the end the FOs failures are kind of on him throwing a temper tantrum over Luke/ the Falcon as much as anything.
Baby? What baby? Don't tell me that Kylo got Rey preggers with the whole hand holding that would be too fucking much.

You can check it out here: https://www.reddit.com/r/starwarsspeculation/comments/8gks0k/i_have_read_a_very_early_storyboard_for_episode_ix/ There was also a rumour circulating a few days ago that a 4 year old white male toddler has been cast, but that's unconfirmed of course. TBH I hate this speculated story with a passion, so hopefully it's fake.

I do like the idea of a time jump though.

Ren not realising it is his (he hasn't actually touched her after all) goes jealous rage Anakin style and Leia somehow saves Rey from Ren and the Skywalker line continues.
I really really do not like this storyline.

No question they have an incredibly high amount of anticipation & expectation. This is for mainly two reasons (may not apply to kids in their early 20s for obviousl reasons) 1. People have been looking forward to a sequel trilogy for MOST OF MY LIFETIME. Episode 6 was released in 1983 & is arguably the last time a Star Wars film was mostly well-received (I love Rogue 1 too, but for the sake of argument let's keep the discussion about the Saga flicks). For years leading up to the prequels many books/games/comics explored the sequel era, for better or worse. It has been hyped to a colossal level. Nothing, except perhaps Infinity War has had this amount of buildup in modern pop culture. People expected the sequels to AT LEAST be on the same level as the holy trilogy regarding plot, characters & writing in general. There's not much room to debate that this isn't the case, sadly 2. The Star Wars films (and animated series to a lesser degree) are the closest we have to a modern day Mythology. It resonates with us in a way that is profound and somewhat difficult to articulate. For centuries humanity has passed on Myths as a way of collectively imparting wisdom & advice about the human condition via an entertaining yet fantastical tale. The characters in the galaxy far, far away are very much like us, yet not human or from Earth. We need the sequels to be satisfying, it is more important than "just a big dumb movie about space wizards", but essential to many of us. They are our contemporary version of the village elder telling stories around a campfire. They (and we) deserve better than what Ruin Johnson & K. Kennedy have delivered I don’t agree. I feel they have delivered exactly what we deserved and needed. Time to pass the torch and move on and so far so good imo. Are you off your meds? You would presume to say I DESERVED THIS: or this For the record, we are now MORTAL ENEMIES!!!

I really really do not like this storyline. It doesn’t sound real at all. Like I said, massive grain of salt. The guy who leaked this lot also leaked for the last jedi, getting some things right, some sort of right but with the characters confused and some totally wrong, so it is likely he is seeing very early storyboard. Hopefully he is right about the thinks I like and wrong about the things I hate.

Are you off your meds? You would presume to say I DESERVED THIS: I had no problem with either scene. I really liked all of the Ren/Luke flashback stuff also. I didn't mind the Rose/Finn stuff but it is the least interesting dynamic in the movie for me. Not bad, just not super interesting. I liked that we had a very different Luke. It been 40 years. If Luke was the same at 60 as he was at 20 then that would have been bad story telling for me. Getting old and cynical and throwing off the idealistic view of the world you had in your youth is 100% realistic to me.

They failed to stop the Sith, yes. But Obi-Won dedicated twenty years of his life to ensure Luke grew up safely and set him on the path to become a Jedi. Yoda spent twenty years in a swamp, but in the end trained Luke to be a Jedi. Not like Han, who ran out on his family, or Luke, who completely gave up on life after a single failure. Luke spent a few years on an island (honestly that is one of the new things that the new movies do confuse me on is the exact time line) but in the end rose to save the day and the Resistance from the First Order. Luke was a beach bum waiting to die, not trying to fix anything, or even help his family. He didn't "save the day" until the Resistance was down to a dozen people. And even then he was just putting on a light show until Rey (the REAL hero) came to the rescue

Star Wars has never been good with romances. Han/Leia wasn't done well, and Anakin/Padme has become infamous with how it was handled.
