The article states that George Lucas made this change before Disney bought Star Wars, just to let people know before it is falsely used as fuel for their hate. For the record, changing the scene at all was, imo, stupid. I don't care if George Lucas himself authorized it. At one point I even owned a T-Shirt that said "Han Shot First"

Just pointing that out since blame should go to those actually responsible.

Disney Wars isn't canon to me. Everything made after 1983 isn't canon for me....although things start getting sketchy after 1980. I'm still unhappy about the title change for Jedi.

Okay, The Mandalorian rocks. At least, the first episode does. The Mando in question is a lot more talkative than I thought he'd be, and definitely isn't a silent unfeeling edgelord like previous Mandalorian bounty hunter portrayals. And none of his dialogue is wasted on stupid or boring lines. Every word out of his mouth either helps establish his character, notes something interesting about the setting, or reveals pragmatic insight about the situation he's in. I like him. The action is sweet, and the episode is mercifully short and to the point without any padded run-time whatsoever. Things happen that I'm certain nobody expected to see going into it, and it works. I'm very, very impressed with the decision-making on display, and hope to God that it's going to hold throughout. Am excited for the next episode. Non-spoilery notes: I love the force pike bayonet on his rifle. Considering how much of TCW's runtime is just various Jedi getting electrocuted into unconsciousness with those things, they're clearly way underrated weapons. The droid from the trailer is amazing. A computer programmed to register your presence, aim and fire at you in a split-second with unfailing efficiency would be (and is most certainly eventually going to be, so far as we're concerned) terrifyingly deadly. No Star Wars media to date has taken that half as seriously as it is here, and it's glorious. The commando droids in TCW were a good start, but this one actually feels like something that could be real. The speeders in the beginning being newer and older models of Luke's X-34 Landspeeder from A New Hope pleases me to no end. God I loved that thing as a kid. Don't remember if I had it in Lego or as an action figure accessory, but I know I had it. The fan-service is definitely still there, and much more tastefully done than we're used to. Minor complaints: His helmet looks way too shiny and unweathered compared to the rest of his costume, and the cape looks a bit kids' superhero costumy at the start. Both get much better throughout the episode as he fixes his armor up and the cloak takes some beatings, respectively. I could still stand for the costume department to have taken some more sandpaper to the whole thing, but it really does get much better by the end. The blue guy is too Brooklyn and a not quite exotic alien enough for me, and it pulled me out of the episode for a moment. And the alien lip-syncing to english words in general feels a bit off. Those were my impressions. Now excuse me while I reinstall SWTOR and roll up a Bounty Hunter character.

My thoughts on the Mandalorian; First off, the tone & writing is SPOT ON. This is what Star Wars is supposed to feel like. Bravo to Filoni & Favreau. Secondly, You can have a feminist character (Female Mandalore) without being stupid about it, & constantly reminding us of how perfect/powerful she is. Just place the "fierce woman" in a powerful leadership position and don't draw attention to the fact that she's not a dude or that her plan is too cool to tell the male characters. Simply let the writing & acting shine, as they did with that cool armor forging scene. Let me gush for a moment. I loved every moment of this episode, I loved how the protagonist has clear strengths (gun-fighting, negotiations) as well as some weaknesses (sentimentality, insecurity). THIS is how a character's journey is done. No need for uber-powers from the start that barely make sense. I loved the cast, from Werner Herzog as an Imperial sympathizer to Brian Posehn as the Taxi driver. Obviously, as Nox said above the minimal acting and lines from Pascal is brilliant, truly less is more. *Glares at ep. 2 DVD* Overall I'm super excited and optimistic about this show, & to a lesser degree the future of our beloved franchise. The fact that this series is being created with this much love & attention to detail is a great sign. Here's hoping the "dark times" are truly behind us & people who understand Star Wars are given even more power & freedom to build worlds, write believable characters and make us look forward to the next episode of that Galaxy far, far away instead of dreading it

I loved the cast, from Werner Herzog as an Imperial sympathizer to Brian Posehn as the Taxi driver. Not to mention Carl Weathers as the local bounty hunter union representative, and probably the one of the three most likely to stick around all season. Seeing his face after a recent Rocky binge made my little heart flutter. And yeah, Pascal does really well. His performance has the classic grizzled gunslinger cadence, but as you say he also plays the character as young and insecure enough to start acting frazzled during a chaotic shootout he wasn't prepared for, which is such an effective way to humanize the archetype.

With the latest edit to A New Hope I have come to the conclusion that Lucas is just trolling us.
Also I thin everyone can agree that was so horribly out of place, we can be unified in our dislike of this new scene this...

I posted this in the gun thread but it merits reposting here as well, it's a vid about the real life handgun the blaster of the title character of "The Mandalorian" is based on, which was one of the earliest (semi)automatic pistols made. It also discusses the visual changes they made to it on the show.

I posted this in the gun thread but it merits reposting here as well, it's a vid about the real life handgun the blaster of the title character of "The Mandalorian" is based on, which was one of the earliest (semi)automatic pistols made. It also discusses the visual changes they made to it on the show. It's great that they do this for some of the most badass non-force sensitives in the franchise. Energy weapons of all kinds are cool, but if they don't somewhat resemble actual guns then it's hard to take them seriously on the subconscious level. I always loved Han's pistol for looking like a ridiculously souped up Mauser as well. Generic - or worse yet, outright eccentric-looking - laser rifles don't have nearly the same impact as something we instinctively connect to a deadly weapon responsible for actual deaths. Same reason Paul Bettany's dinky little knuckle knives in Solo actually seem more menacing than Darth Maul's lightsaber. We've known that knife fights get ugly for thousands of years, and that triggers something more visceral in us than lights and whooshing sounds and the occasional neatly cauterized stump do. Are vibroblades canon at all these days? I can't keep track of that stuff. If so, hope we see some. When it makes sense, of course. Maybe as assassin's weapons.

Just finished watching episode 2. Fuck it was short. Anyways, I'm not the most hardcore of SW fans out there (although as most people I'm not really keen on the latest movie/s), so I perhaps are more forgiving with the franchise so long as it's not dumb shit (like the latest movies...).
But I've found this series to be really interesting. Sure, it was just 2 episodes, but no complaints whatsoever here. Finally something a bit more different and not another Jedi story.

I've only seen the first episode of the Mandalorian so far, but what I found sad is that... Haar Mando'ad nu vaabir jorhaa'ir Mando'a ti haar goran. True. Missed opportunity, that. Especially because the dialogue between those two was some of the flattest and least imaginative in the episode. Come to think of it though, both of the first two episodes have moments where the main character is spoken to in an alien tongue and either doesn't respond or replies haltingly. Maybe he doesn't have an ear for languages? I get the feeling that he hasn't actually "been" Mandalorian for very long either, in that sense. He only had the beskar helmet apparently granted to children despite clearly having been an accomplished mercenary for years, and a lot of his lines about the culture sound more like a new member trying to parrot rhetoric than someone steeped in it from birth. "I'm a Mandalorian. Weapons are part of my religion." for instance. That would be interesting, if Mandalorianism is something he only recently in his life found purpose and identity in, and that's why he wants to live up to it so badly. In which case the clanswoman speaking to him in Galactic Basic and showing respect and appreciation for his contributions in spite of his ignorance is kind of sweet, too. She's trying to make him feel welcome as part of the clan, rather than humiliating him and making him feel like an outsider by insisting on speaking a language he maybe struggles with.
