None of this is in the movie. I guess that means that ANH is full of plot holes and we shouldn't like it. Even if Luke was only an "adequate pilot" keep in mind that the Death Star had showed up to blow the Rebel base to smithereens. They were throwing everything and everyone they could at it hoping to get lucky. Note that Luke wasn't in the first wave to make the run. He was the third, if I recall correctly. fair points. But he still flew like an utter bad ass, on his first combat sortie, such a Stu. (To use the prevailing wisdom )

Well, just in case anyone wants to know the actual answer of why Luke was able to fly an X-Wing aside from his previous piloting experience. In the EU, the T-16 and the X-wing were made by the same manufacturer. Since the T-16 was the basis for the X-Wing the controls were pretty much the same. T-16's were re-purposed as fighter craft when the Rebellion first started.
That is the fact of the day None of this is in the movie. I guess that means that ANH is full of plot holes and we shouldn't like it.
I didn't say it to be any part of the discussion. I just said it in case anyone was interested in a little Star Wars Lore.

Have you seen how many buttons are there in SW ships? It is totally unrealistic. Also, from now on every character in any movie that drives the car must be shown to be able to drive a car. Show a drivers license on camera or something.

Rei kissing Kylo at the end of ROTS means YES. Which means she can legally use Skywalker name.

Like had an entire day to get familiar with the cockpit setup and technical layout of the X-Wing before the Battle of Yavin. More than enough time to familiarize himself with the craft to learn "button layout"

Ghost Luke gave her the idea. Was this before taking a swig of unpasteurized milk and refusing to train her? Uh he was very alive then so not a ghost. Rey Skywalker has a nice ring to it. Perfect end to her character and the saga. The only way Rey is a Skywalker is if the current theory floating around that she's a clone of Shmi actually pans out. Adoption is a thing. Also that theory is incredibly far fetched at this point. Hell they look nothing alike.

So... what's Ben Solo like that Rey would want to kiss him? Does he have great hair, a broad chiselled chest, and is prone to emotional mood swings?
🤔 Ok, I think I get it.

But it makes more sense than posthumous adoption by some grumpy old dude you knew for all of three days and who refused to help you at every turn while alive. Hell they barely exchanged a single civil word to each other.

Just getting an idea out of my head. If I had written this trilogy:
Instead of Rey being Palpatine’s Granddaughter, I would have made both her and Snoke and the Knights of Ren be the result of Palpatine’s efforts to create the perfect apprentice through genetic engineering and dark side experimentation, her being on ice until years after his death of course. One entry would have been titled (Star Wars: Children of the Emperor). Instead of bringing Palpatine back, Kylo would have remained a chief villain that feels more conflicted as the last entry goes on. A masked female Knight of Ren lieutenant would simultaneously begins to lose faith in his leadership and ultimately betray him, effectively schisming the First Order with the help of General Hux, then taking off her mask to reveal she’s dark Rey, basically an evil twin from the same experiment.
That last one might not be a good idea but I thought dark Rey looked cool.

Hell they barely exchanged a single civil word to each other. Which fits most families in my experience. Probably going to be something we'll disagree on but in the end I think they had a lot of respect for each other and they taught each other a lot. Just getting an idea out of my head. If by "fulfilled the promise of Anakin and Luke" you mean "completely undermined their sacrifices and victories so Disney can bring us the REAL Chosen One" then I agree...

Another reason I like Reylo in the end, it undoes the destructive damage the prequels did. Once more love is a redemptive force.

"I hear you've become a good pilot yourself," from Kenobi to which Luke shrugs. "You bet I could, I'm not such a bad pilot..." to Han who dismisses it with reason. What are the others in the first half hour... or just period? THIS is supposed to justify getting into an X-Wing fighter, which is basically like an F-16 compared to a civilian aircraft, at the end of the movie to the astute, mature crowd? lol. Well, Luke’s childhood best friend Biggs was there and probably vouched for his talent. Enough for the rebels, who must have had more ships than able pilots, to take the desperate step of throwing him in a cockpit. Thats EXACTLY what happened. The space scenes in OT star wars are remakes of old WW2 films, a frame by frame remake in the case of "A new hope". Yes, I know I've linked this video before, but it seems that the point needs to be made again for some people. As such comparing an X-wing to a F-16 is foolish at absolute best, it should be compare to a spitfire or a Lancaster bomber. Seriously, look at the way they move in the films. We KNOW its possible for civilian pilots to use these if needed BECAUSE THAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED DURING WW2. In exactly the way you described in fact. Britain could manufacture new planes far, far quicker than they could train new pilots, so pretty much anybody who had basic piloting skills ended up seeing combat in a real hurry. Luke being sent into combat with minimal training by the Rebels is a deliberate shoutout to the source material on George Lucas's part, nothing to do with any mary/gary stu issues.
