I have an unhealthy amount of SW comics, but never read Tales of the Jedi. Are they any good? They seem to be available in digital issues.

The Tales of The Jedi is arguably the best SW materiel alongside the OT, and has greatly influenced the EU going forward while including a solid collection of the franchise's best characters in Exar Kun, Nomi Sunrider, Uliq qel Droma, Thon etc. I recommend it.

Ulic Qel-Droma and Nomi Sunrider > Ben Solo and Rey Palpatine Also takes place about a generation before KOTOR and was a direct inspiration for it (I believe Bastila Shan was originally supposed to be an adult Vima)

Thank you all for your kind answers! It seems I've managed to miss one of the most significant comics in the SW Universe... There was a time I fancied myself a comic collector of sorts, and my first thought was "There's probably an Omnibus available". Well there are used ones on ebay, but the prices are staggering. Considering my chronic lack of shelf space, I'm leaning on buying digital issues. To think Kotor references these guys everywhere. I always thought they were from a novel... I feel so stupid.

Also deals with the rise and fall of Exar Kun, so some insight into the Jedi Academy trilogy too...

Damn, even Force-blind he was more of a teacher than green-milk-swilling Jake Skywalker! And had a far better arc than Emo Ren! A comic from the '90s outdoes an "official" Star Wars trilogy!

Besides, comics often have good arcs and plots. V for Vendetta is a nice example. It was written in the 80's and the movie turned out ok as well.

Tales o' Ye Olde Jedi is great stuff Dark Horse was an awesome publisher Wasn't wild about the artwork in the early issues, but it improved over time Nomi grew into a total badass. And best of all, it was a journey that took her YEARS.

Damn, even Force-blind he was more of a teacher than green-milk-swilling Jake Skywalker! And had a far better arc than Emo Ren! A comic from the '90s outdoes an "official" Star Wars trilogy! Uliq would have been justified in not wanting to train Vima for reasons beyond self loathing, but he realized that without immediate guidance she will repeat his mistakes and chose to set her on the right path. Plus he didn't need to be guilt tripped by a seven ft tall space Sasquatch into doing the right thing. Tales o' Ye Olde Jedi is great stuff Dark Horse was an awesome publisher Wasn't wild about the artwork in the early issues, but it improved over time Nomi grew into a total badass. And best of all, it was a journey that took her YEARS. Agreed. I didn't mind the artwork when i was a kid because i was just stoked after discovering that my grade school library had the first two volumes, and that i was reading my first Dark Horse published SW comics. That same library was where i was introduced to the Aliens books and comics, Preston's and Child's Agent Penderghast series, Crichton's books etc. Back on topic, Nomi was a well developed character who doesn't get the recognition they deserve, and more importantly she's my preferred jedi waifu.

Tales o' Ye Olde Jedi is great stuff [snip] Dark Horse was an awesome publisher Yup, just finished Golden Age of the Sith. It has aged remarkably well. While the whole series sets me back about 50 quid, I figure it's still a bargain, considering they cost about the same in the 90's.
I bet Dark Horse is doing just fine; they've got some big names under their roof.

Ulic Qel-Droma is one of the best characters to have come out of the EU. I should know, I'm OdanUrr. The culmination of his arc in Redemption is how Disney should've handled Luke in TLJ (i.e. with respect).

One of the greatest time periods in SW history where the Jedi and the Sith were at their prime, but lets ignore it when it comes to making movies.
