Earlier today I went to a nearby Books A Million and picked up a few old EU paperbacks. To be honest, I haven't read any of them and I feel guilty for it because I've always heard good things about them. To start, I got Heir to the Empire, X-Wing Rogue Squadron and Kenobi. I'm looking forward to digging in with these. Also, a good little gem I found:
Its nothing but feels, I know, but it truly highlights Sir Alec Guinness and his acting skill. To have such emotion for a character who, at the time, didn't have a backstory fully fleshed out is amazing.

RoTJ was pretty weak on the overall military balance. We don't hear anything about planets slipping from Imperial control, one way or the other. But it did establish that the Rebel fleet was inferior to the Imperial fleet. The question at Endor is whether the Rebel fleet will be destroyed faster by the Imperial starfleet or by Death Star 2, not whether they'll defeat the Imperials.

I think the new movies would've been better if they happened +100 years after Return of the Jedi. Then they probably could've kept the EU canon and make these new movies actually focus on the new characters and places, instead of just recycling same old themes and characters from the original movies.

Star Wars fans in Japan can choose between light or dark sides of the Force versions for 4DX screenings of The Last Jedi, with the immersive special effects tailored to give audiences separate perspectives.
The two versions are delivered in the same theaters and fans have been split 50-50 on whether to experience the film from the light or dark side. The vibrations, tilts, wind, fog, strobe and other effects enhance differing aspects of the onscreen action for the light and dark side of the theaters. Light saber battles create differing reverb effects for the two sides, while the atmosphere will differ for scenes on First Order ships and Rebel bases.www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/4dx-screenings-last-jedi-japan-offer-special-light-dark-force-versions-film-1074916There should have been light and dark versions of the Original Trilogy, except the different versions should have different content. The end to the the Dark version would have Palpatine standing all smug and superior over the wreckage of the Rebel resistance, Darth Vader a little to the side impaling his son on his light saber. Evil chuckling would then go here, with Force Lightning effects and a red fog. In wanders Darth Vader's new apprentice, Jar Jar Binks. The end to the Light version wouldn't be important cause, of course, nobody would go and see it.

Start with Heir to the Empire. It was the first of the EU novels (barring a couple of books that came out at the time of the trilogy) And it's what popularized Star Wars novels for the next fifteen years. You won't be disappointed.

Technically everyone can survive in space for a few minutes. The other thing is that it completely confirms that Force doesn't need any training anymore. Not just in impressively talented protagonist's case.

Not just in impressively talented protagonist's case. That was already confirmed during TCW. There was a baby with a strong force affinity that could lift simple objects. Without any form of training. Plus we also don't know if Luke trained Leia a bit. I know that she actually does receive jedi training in the old EU.

But, and forgive me if this comes off as arrogant, I am (1) trying to be an authority on this subject. Admittedly probably still rather (2) amateurish but I am writing my own original works and making money off it. (3) Granted everyone can disagree with my conclusions or think I'm a crap writer.(4) But I feel I bring a unique perspective, as someone who studies the art of writing.Responding to bold/underlined: 1. You are trying, too hard and too early. I don't blame you too much, I blame Obama. You are building to something but faking it here until you make it. 2. Your literary criticism at this time is not amateurish. It uses the same elements a good critic would investigate, often the same spaces I look into, and yet we come to vastly different conclusions given the same data. Some of that is taste, and some of that is experience. 3. Glad you made this an OR rather than an AND. I think you are a good writer getting better, and I totally disagree with almost all of your conclusions, so there is exclusivity there. 4. This is arrogance. Just reading the posts of this forum over the years, long before there was any "colfoley", there have been and are amazing literary minds that surpass both of ours significantly on this forum. They just don't bother with this shit, because they have been smart enough to move on and not care. This arrogance is what almost always makes me roll my eyes at any of your "critical" posts, because it is so transparent. It is also unsubstantiated, because of 1, 2, & 3 above.

Well they got one thing right: Rey is boring and it's sad and frustrating that It came to that. Rian Johnson messed with her and Finn.
