Today I will give you a short story of rain and corpses. Before we could get our lyrium supply in order for the templars we received a report of a patrol missing in the frostbacks somewhere. They hadn’t reported in and had been gone overly long by now. Josie pulled some strings and we got a lead on small Bannorn in southern Ferelden. When we arrived in the Fallow mire we found out it really was a mire. Some kind of magical storm was wreaking havoc. The veil most likely being very thin there. Per Harding our soldiers were taken hostage by some Avvar chieftain. The Avvar had done it so that their leader could fight me. I guess that’s fame for you but it’s getting rather ridiculous. Unless, it was connected to this “Elder one” again. We pushed on into the bog. The place was filled with walking corpses. Recently dead possessed by malevolent spirits. We found evidence for a plague here and people had been dropping like flies. There had been no one left to give the proper funeral services and so now their corpses were left wandering. We did meet one friendly Avvar. He called himself Skywatcher and was in the bog to study the rifts. He was a shaman of sorts and he was very interested in my ability to close fade rifts. Skywatcher and Viv made an instant connection. The thin veil was in some part connected to magical standing stone beacons we found along the way. Lighting a magical fire on them summoned demons and when those demons were defeated no more dead arose from the surrounding bog. Eventually we reached the keep wherein our soldiers were held captive. We had to fight through a seemingly endless number of undead to get in. The hand of Korth himself was a formidable warrior but clearly not the sharpest knife when it came to cognitive abilities. Him and his troops were defeated and our soldiers rescued. We met Skywatcher on our way back and I he was interested in lending his support for the Inquisition. No doubt he will be an asset going forward.

Range has it advantages but I'm not in approval of the DAI style. I find the bows rather weak and cheesy. I say this because I have switched over to the rogue when fighting the guardian in DD and on hardest mode; the fight can be super tedious even if the rogue is equipped with the best longbow I can make. On the claymore wielding warrior, I can inflict over 5-6K dmg. The DAI longbow doesn't even come anywhere near two thousand dmg, as far as I can tell. Stringing bows in DAI is akin to stringing away like chickens on a giant ogre. My GW2 Ranger outclass the DAI rogue; 16K dmg is the highest in a series of shots with dmg increment. If I were to add them up, it's over 40K in rapid shots. As an archer I was consistently doing a ton of damage. You just need to increase your crit chance/damage numbers. Any talent (Long Shot, Leaping Shot, Full Draw) should do several K damage against anything, especially from behind with flanking bonus or from stealth. The bow stats may not look impressive, but when combined with everything else the damage will pile up and multiply. Be on the lookout for the Bow of Artifice (I think it's a special shipment award). I used it for pretty much the entire game once I made it to the required level (18, I think?). It will randomly drop Elemental Mines on your target, so even if you aren't an Artificer you can enjoy a bit of the fun of playing one.
With Hidden Blades as a masterwork on either armor or weapon you will kill everything not a boss fast. Having that option is one reason why I don't feel the need to take the Assassin spec and, other than Thousand Cuts, I'm not real impressed with Tempest. The elixir effects don't last long enough, imo, to be able to take advantage of them when selecting things manually. The AI has a better time of it, I think.

If you are talking about the double dagger tree talents, then yes, but if you are talking about regular rogue talents like Throwing Blades then no. Some DD passives might also work with bows, but I'm not sure. Curious why you would want to equip daggers though? Just for close combat situations? That's what Leaping Shot is for - to get you out of those situations. I never really found myself in CQC much though, unless I wanted to be, and mostly that was to lay out traps and watch everyone explode. What spec are you going to take?
Ah ok. So I can ignore the double knives skill. This is one aspect I hope DA4 will not take on; limiting usable skills to the main. I'd prefer if the devs follow Guild Wars 2 style. GW2 allow at least five weapons mastery. Two can be equipped at one time. Example. My Ranger can use the longbow, claymore, longsword, staff, torch, small axe and horn. She's currently using longbow as the primary that be switched out with claymore equipped as secondary. I tend to use it when mobs come up close and I'm not able to dodge. If I don't want the claymore, I can change it to the others (must be done out of combat). During combat, I can switch back and forth easily, the skills will auto switch as well. Ranger claymore skills are totally different from those of a warrior / fighter. I know. One is mmo with titan world bosses, the other is SP with pipsqueak bosses but that doesn't change my opinion any. Not certain what spec until I come to it. I doubt it's the same as Varric's or Cole's since the Inq should have three options to choose from, like the warrior's. P.S. oh that was fast. Right off the bat after getting settled at Haven I get a romance line for Solas. That early? P.S. II Ok I forgot about the names of swords. Cass is always using an arming sword. My warrior Inq...I think the Sulevin Blade can rightfully be called a greatsword since it's the length of her if held straight. And my GW2 ranger does have a greatsword and an arming sword. I'll do the what i did part in a bit... But melbella is right with full draw i have repeatedly done 7633 damage. Long shot does around 5000 and I'm not even using the best bow from a dps standpoint. Sera with hers, while I'm not sure of the dps, bad guys just dissolve. As far as specs are concerned i do not use tempest because there are too many abilities I'd want to equip at the same time. But assassin is op as hell.

From the Diary of Kara Trevelyan: So once more we have fought an ancient would be God...thing. This is honestly getting a little old. But the Earthquakes have been stopped.
The Inquisition has discovered, and fought, another long lost Civilization down in the deep. And Valta is perhaps the only Dwarf we know of that can now exhibit magical properties. I feel...blown away and insignificant next to the revelations down in the Deep Roads. Yet privilidged to be apart of it. Exploring history has been one of my finer joys of the Inquisition, and something I did not expect I would like so much even going through the villages of Ostwick.

It has finally happened. Divine Victoria has called the Exalted Council. Josephine assures me given the political ramifications within the Empire that she had no choice but to call the Council. And given recent events, and the controversy surrounding the Inquisition's role in the Second Orlesian Civil War )(and putting Gaspard on the throne in the first place) I can hardly blame them. However what does surprise me is it is Ferelden and not Orlais which wants to see us disbanded. We have hardly had any dealings within the Kingdom for 2 years. We maintain a small presence in Crestwood, working with the Ferelden Throne to keep traverlers safe on the roads, but that is it. Most of the last two years has been focusing on Orlais, building the Eluivan Network (which has mysteriously stopped working) and dealing with problems with the Deep Roads.
As far as the question goes neither option sounds appealing to me. I do not want to be an agent of the Orlesian throne, and despite my own personal reservations still looming occasionally... I feel we still have more work to do. I already tried to get out of the Game once and all it led to was a Civil War. I told Cullen that we weren't done yet, but as always I worry about my own power.
All I know is I am tired, I am very tired. Of dealing with the politics, but I must forge on. So I have started Trespasser, reached the end of the line. I am actually getting sad...but nevertheless I think this playthrough has started to wear a bit thin at the end so it is time to put this game down probably for a good long while. Not sure I will play it again until DA 4 comes out. Hopefully it does. I don't know though DA I is the only game I think I could see myself wanting to play at least once every year. So we shall see. On another note specifically I started off Trespasser by buying a lot of herbs. And then upgrading all my potions. Wish I looked in the Wiki earlier to see Dawn Lotus being in the Fallow Mire, could have really used it before now.

(Gamer Note: Still following Nightscrawl's sequence and using the Even Ground and Walk Softly trials. Slowly transitioned to Tier 3 equipment.) With Celene's Masquerade/Ball/Negotiations coming up, Katriel headed to the Emerald Graves to take on the Freemen of the Dales, who they first encountered in the Emerald Graves. A local leader of war refugees - a fellow by the name of Fairbanks - contacted the information and informed them that the Freemen were in cahoots with the Red Templars. This claim was ultimately verified after defeating the Freemen first at the Veridium mine and later at the Villa Maurel. They also randomly encountered numerous Red Templars and raided several smugglers' camps, uncovering evidence which implicated the Red Templar general Samson and indicated that the Red Templars had a major operation in the mining town of Sahrnia in the Emprise de Leon. In addition, Katriel and her companions closed numerous rifts. Cole-ism of the day: When the companions discovered the body of a dead girl floating in a river, Cole sadly blirted out: "She loved her mother!" Further investigation uncovered a diary which revealed that the poor girl had been manipulated by a demon that masqueraded as the girl's dead mother and culminated with the girl's "accidental suicide." (Also took Cole to Chateau d'Onterre where he was surprisingly mute.) Before leaving the Graves, Katriel and her companions sought to kill a dragon known to haunt the Graves. Their first attempt ended with a quick retreat after Katriel's team showed up with Electric Resistance gear only to find a Greater Mistral, an ice dragon. They quickly returned to Skyhold where Harrit crafted cold resistance gear for Katriel's team. Their second attempt was successful and the Graves have now been fully pacified. (Gamer Note: The Greater Mistral fight ended up being a cakewalk, even easier than the wimpy high dragon in the Western Approach. The team had maxed out on cold resistance. Katriel had a wicked Staff of Corruption crafted from Tier 3 materials. The team didn't use so much as a single health potion during the fight. Next time, stick with Tier 2 schematics until after Emerald Graves!) Happy New Year to all at the BSN boards! May you all live long and prosper in 2017!

I went to the Hinterlands. I find it rather curious the contrast in performance between companions and protag. I'm getting near 2K dmg from LS and she's not even wielding the best longbow. Can't help but feel something is off. Btw, I don't get the best dmg battling the guardian due to the limited space around it. Dmg is tiny, which is why I said it's like chickens pecking on giant ogre. One other point. The DAI rogue has no healing skill, can buff up the shots a bit with poison. So if the others die, she's in trouble if the healing potions ran to zero. The GW2 ranger can heal, buff up allies, buff dmg and call in the aid of nature. A class specialisation was recently added; druid. Some players were not happy; the druid is more like a healer, can be become a celestial avatar when needed, but I find the various skill choices very helpful when going about solo or when fighting a world boss with the others. I know, I'm going off course again. But only because I find the situation funny. In mmos, the ranger is always my primary character. But in SP like DAI, it's the warrior. Anyway, I'll keep an eye out for that bow you mentioned.

colfoley Yes, it is my first time through, but I was never a huge fan of prolonged dungeon crawls, though I do know a lot of people ask for it. And, i added Shale to my party, so I am going to try him out, but then probably;y going to keep Sten for the rest o the game. Wish I could find an ultimate two-handed sword. Sten's own is sort of disappointing, and that gigantic mace is good, but I want an UBER-sword. I normally don't either. At least not in theory. But the three that I am aware of playing, Paragon of her Kind, Golomns of Amapoop, and the Descent I have really liked two of them and hated the other. The "Golems" DLC was definitely pointless. They should've invested the talent wasted in Golems to fill out the story in "Witch Hunt," which did have a purpose.

They should've invested the talent wasted in Golems to fill out the story in "Witch Hunt," which did have a purpose. yeah I agree. Golemns was stupid and it was so pointlessly hard and ridiculious. Meanwhile Witch Hunt, which should have been an amazing icing on the cake for Dragon Age Origins...much like how Trespasser was for DA I...it was kind of a far in the wind. Because of all the repurposed maps masqurading as new areas and it just felt...very very hollow. I doubt I will play either one again even if I do play DA O in the future.

But yeah, considering he was not able to succesfully romance Leiliana he was a very confused man.

Oh my gosh. So, I had my Dragon Age RPG core rulebook out at work And a co-worker wanders by and sees it. And asks who's it is. So, I say me. And he says he plays Dragon Age. -!-!-!-!-!-! So, I only gush a little bit and ask him which game he started with and how long he's been playing. And he says 3.5 months. And then our parting remarks was this shared conraderie about how people think we're playing a SIMS game and we're like... No. It's so much deeper than that game. I was so happy.

Waltzed into Adamant to put my boot firmly up Erimond's tuchus, got sucked into the Fade instead. Bull and Sera lost their shit, Hawke kept throwing shade at my #1 man Stroud, they ended up bickering in the backseat while the undead Divine got nekkid and a bunch of demons tried to eat us for breakfast.
Dorian and I deserve a vacation for getting through this without strangling anyone tbh.

I don't know if the battlemaster armor has a medium version originally but I'm happy to put the elven inq in it. I find the starter Haven coat armor (after prologue) made her scrawny; it looks that way to me, her shoulders were rather narrow, arms still look thin and her frame was skinny. Could just be the effect of the coat but I was delighted to put her in this because she looks better. Recruited Sera. I supposed I'll be seeing fireworks in dialogues since the elven Inq believes in elven gods; Sera might even leave in a huff. Will be romancing Solas to see how it goes since I didn't watch it on YT. Not recruiting Viviene since this PT will see Leliana seated as Divine. P.S. Went to Stormcoast and dang it, I didn't turn on Bandicam to capture a funny moment. Scenerios I've seen with the fight between giant and dragon: Giant dies. Giant vanishes but apparently has died to unforeseen means. Giant lives and fight the party. Giant flies up into the air and dies once he hits the ground. *sigh* I keep wanting to dodge (I know the rogue can do a LS dodge but it's one shot with a cool down. Too slow imo), do aoe (rain of arrows or rapid shots) / throw down a heal glyph / buff my companions / turn into celestial avatar and have to remind myself the Inq cannot do any of those things.

I have finally obtained an UBER sword for Sten. It took some trying to get my hands on it, as it originally belonged to a v. annoying noblewoman, called Ser Cauterine (or some such). I ended up disabling all scripts on my party, so they remain in cover down the hall while working down the insane health pool of this paragon of vitality. It took so long, the Revival came off the CD (Sten was taken down before I disabled scripts, so he kept showing his side to one of the dudes with the Bow of Stunlock) that followed us down the Hall.

I don't know if the battlemaster armor has a medium version originally but I'm happy to put the elven inq in it. I find the starter Haven coat armor (after prologue) made her scrawny; it looks that way to me, her shoulders were rather narrow, arms still look thin and her frame was skinny. Could just be the effect of the coat but I was delighted to put her in this because she looks better. Recruited Sera. I supposed I'll be seeing fireworks in dialogues since the elven Inq believes in elven gods; Sera might even leave in a huff. Will be romancing Solas to see how it goes since I didn't watch it on YT. Not recruiting Viviene since this PT will see Leliana seated as Divine. P.S. Went to Stormcoast and dang it, I didn't turn on Bandicam to capture a funny moment. Scenerios I've seen with the fight between giant and dragon: Giant dies. Giant vanishes but apparently has died to unforeseen means. Giant lives and fight the party. Giant flies up into the air and dies once he hits the ground. *sigh* I keep wanting to dodge (I know the rogue can do a LS dodge but it's one shot with a cool down. Too slow imo), do aoe (rain of arrows or rapid shots) / throw down a heal glyph / buff my companions / turn into celestial avatar and have to remind myself the Inq cannot do any of those things. They do make elves, especially females, rather scrawny. I once had a female elf romance Sera and it sadly looked like an adult woman perving with a 14-year old girl. I installed a mod to fill out female elves a bit more which seems to help. My current elf mage is romancing Solas on my current PT. Why not recruit Vivienne even if you don't want her as Divine? I only accidently made her Divine once. I believe the line "I want mages in the Chantry" during a conversation with Vivienne in Haven did it. If you don't get along with her or agree with her on much, she's not going anywhere. I do like the giant versus dragon scene. It reminds me of those old monster movies (like the original "King Kong") that used stop motion animation special effects.

Happy New Year, fellow DA player Riya has just closed the Rift and now strange people are turing up at the gate. Before that, we went for the dragon in the Hinterlands: Riya, Iron Bull, Dorian and Varric. It was not really planned, but when trying to destroy the Red Lyrium for Varric and gathering some resources, that dragon didn't stop attacking, so my little elf throwed a fit and started attacking (never anger a mage...). Surprisingly, the group survived , the dragon not so much . And I was really amazed, that there was a lot of landscape to didcover behind the dragon lair. I didn't get the drinking scene with IB though, I guess, I have to wait until we are in Skyhold for that.

I started a new inquisitor a couple days ago. My 5th. SAGA CADASHSword & Shield Warrior I've been having trouble deciding on a romance for her. It stood between Blackwall or Josephine. I had to pick up Blackwall to see them interact first, and now I have decided; it will be Josephine. I think Saga is too much alike Blackwall, so Josephine will be a better match. Will be fun to see her in the duel. I have so far picked up Sera, Vivienne and Blackwall. Today I have roamed a bit around the Hinterlands and explored the Val Royaeux map. Now I will go back to doing stuff in the Hinterlands, go to Redcliffe to meet the mages and then pick up Iron Bull afterwards. Screenie, so you can see what Saga looks like:

Over new years there have been time for some gaming. =) And IYHSB is still my favourite quest ever. ”To you, my second-born, I grant this gift: In your heart, shall burn an unquenchable flame all-consuming, and never satisfied. Only problem as a dwarf I don’t dream. So, this Maker didn’t make us. As I have been living here among these Andrastians I have taken up studying as well. I need to understand in depth what I’m dealing with and what is the truth behind the veil of lies. I spend a lot of my time, when recuperating in my quarters, reading and writing down my view on these events. I need to tread carefully as I have cut my ties to my old life. Since we have the templars we need ready and we have enough lyrium on hand it is time to head on up to the breach. By the stone, we will make it. The ritual was a success! We closed the Breach! It still took an enormous amount of energy to enforce my will upon the breach but as more and more templars suppressed the Breach I could feel myself growing stronger and stronger. Finally, a release of energy and the Breach collapsed in on itself and was gone in an explosion. We survived this one as well. Now everyone is happy and dancing. They should have their fun but it isn’t over yet. We still need to find those responsible and we still need to know more about this “Elder one”. It turned out I was right to be cautious at the party. Our feeling of victory didn’t last long as we were beset upon by an enemy force. Ahead of the force came Dorian, the friendly tevinter mage to warn us. Of course, it was the Venatori and the rebel mages, they were led by grand enchanter Fiona, a tevinter mage called Calpurnia and of course the Elder on himself. He looked like some sort of ancient darkspawn from afar. I would get a closer look later in the battle that came. We were outnumbered and encircled but we had trebuchet that we use to bring down an avalanche upon the approaching force. That gave a short respite until the Elder one showed us his ace in the deck. An archdemon or something very similar. It crushed our trebuchet and broke our defenses. We had to fall back to the chantry. Haven was overrun. We managed to revive and save some straggling civilians out of burning houses on our way. Right outside the chantry gates our quartermaster Threnn gave her life for Harrit, Segritt, Flissa, Minaeve and Adan. Inside the chantry, we were greeted by the Chancellor Roderick. He was badly hurt from trying to fight some Venatori. He had no training in arms at all. Brave. He apologized for all the bad words. It turned out he had the key to our salvation. He knew of a passage in chantry catacomb leading out into the mountain pass above Haven. We had one trebuchet left. If I could keep the dragon occupied long enough for our people to sneak out and then bury Haven under an avalanche the people might be saved. Well, I never pictured myself doing the heroic sacrifice but The Elder one was obsessed with me so I was the only one that could really pull this plan off. Who knows, if I ran really fast just maybe I could stay one step ahead of the avalanche. Yeah…sure. Sera, Viv and Blackwall volunteered to follow me. We fought through Venatori and mages down to the trebuchet. We had to fight of wave upon wave of enemies before we had the trebuchet set up just right. Then we had to defend our position until we got the signal from Cullen that all were safe. Eventually Fiona herself came to do battle with us. Viv showed through bloody teeth who was the rightful grand enchanter! With Fiona down The Elder one threw his ace on us. I screamed to the others to run for it. So, there I was alone against a dragon the size of a city. Almost. The Elder one called himself “the will that is Corypheus”. Henceforth I will call him Corypheus for short. Corypheus claimed that the mark is an anchor he created to open a passage through the veil so he can enter the fade. Again. He claimed he had done I before, that he was one of the original magisters to reach the golden city, or the black city. He claimed there was no maker and his plan was to take back his anchor, open up the heavens again, enter the black city and become a true God. I let him have his overblown speech since I had mine at Therinfal redoubt. He had a magical orb with which he would remove the anchor from me. As he began the mark became unstable again and as more magic pulsed through it the pain increased manifold. Again, the unbearable pain. As much as he tried the anchor could not be removed. He tossed me aside and as luck would have it I landed by the release for the trebuchet. Corypheus said he would have to find some other means to breach the veil. He wasn’t finished with me yet however. He would accept no rival and I had to die. That’s when Cullen’s signal rose over the pass. I thanked Cory for the chat, released the mountain on Haven and ran like a nug on fire! Amgarrak? At least I survived. I ran without really looking where I was going and fell down an insufficiently covered mining shaft. There are a lot of holes in Haven. I was badly bruised. I could hardly walk. The way behind was blocked by rubble, ice, and snow. Only way was forward into the mountain. The mark was different, stable again but energy had built up in it and as I ran into a group of demons I released that energy. A small rift opened and sucked the life out of the demons. This will be useful. I pushed on through the mountain, through the snow, a blizzard. I was ready to give up like a hundred times but something kept me going. At last I found them. As I did I just collapsed drained of all energy. The camp was full of desperate, tired, people. Our leaders argued openly about what to do, where to go. I had a long talk with Mother Giselle. She still believed it was all divine providence whereas I felt none of that. One thing she did prove beyond any shadow of doubt was that the people believed in me. They had seen me facing certain death, seen the mountain come down and yet here I was very much in the flesh. I was now even more holy to them than before. That’s when Solas wanted a private talk. He knew what the orb Corypheus used was. It was elven and he feared what the Andrastians would do if they found out. He knew it from the fade, he said. He also knew where we could go and rebuild. He had withheld this information until know because him being somewhat skeptic regarding the Inquisition so far. But if I would lead them then he felt safe enough. I agreed and led the faithful north. What we found there was really beyond my wildest dreams. Skyhold!

My favorite quest is also IYHSB, such a fine piece of writing...kind of Rogue One esque. Anyways. From the Diary of Kara Trevelyan: Met with my compatriots before the Exalted Council. Dorian's leaving, this time he says it will be permanantly. It feels sad this might be a while before we see each other again. Varric is now the Viscount of Kirkwall! Cole has a girlfriend!! And Blackwall found some of his people. It was a bit of a tense meeting. I have never quite forgiven him for what he did during the trial, but I am happy for him. The big news though is Cullen has proposed to me, and I acccepted...perhaps kind of against my better judgement...but as long as I get to keep my last name I'm happy. He can be Cullen Trevelyan for all I care...that will make my late mother smile.
The Ferelden position for the Exalted Council does make a fair bit of sense, they are worried about our power. I'm worried about our power. But I believe we can still do some good in the world, though maybe it is time to set things in motion? Still it would be hard to 'retire' from this job, I am only 31 years old. The Orlesian though, I will never see the Inquisition leashed to the Empire that we ourselves have leashed. The Orlesians are dangerous enough as friends I will never see them as our masters.
Regardless, within ten minutes, the Exalted Council has hardly begun...and already we have to deal with a murder plot, a Qunari...this should be good. ...And that is pretty much it for a change.

I'll be back How'd you get your dwarf into the PC mage's trench coat? When you choose the Templars, fighting Fiona is fun. She looks like a demonic fairy!

I know Leliana + recruiting mages + supporting her increases the chances of her being Divine but I had a couple of PTs where Viviene ended up Divine instead. I'll try taking her on and not choose that line you mentioned. Hope that is the trigger although I'm pretty sure I never picked that. I supposed I have to be negative towards her / not choose to take her quest / not talk to her.

Interesting; different from what I ran into in my PT. I assume you "humanized" Cole? Why the problems with Dorian? Low approval?
