I downloaded it and played through it. Then I played through it again. It's weirdly addicting.
I don't know how to describe it. It's like a bizarre three-way love-child of Bayonetta, Bullet Hell and the original Ninja Gaiden. Yes, 3D sword & gun action, 2D side-scroller, and 2D platformer, all in one game. The 2D sections are entirely achieved by the AI controlling the camera. Like in one of the Bullet Hell sections, the camera goes straight up overhead, looking down at 90 degrees, totally top-down. You make all the same moves and attacks, but because the view is constrained, it looks like a 2D side-scroller. The Bayonetta part is the truly colossal boss -- so much fun!
I haven't messed with the AI camera control settings yet. There are about a dozen of them, I'm not kidding. I suspect that you can override the defaults camera settings and basically force the 2D sections to be normal over-the-shoulder 3D like the rest of the game.
Anyone else try it yet?

Yes much lik the first NieR, it mixes a lot of genres together(ala killer7) into an action RPG with a great story and gorgeous music.
Automata is looking just as good judging from the demo, if not better with Platinum making the combat. Loved it myself. It's cool they brought back DC Douglas from the first game, and I kinda dig the dub actress for 2B.

Yup, played it on Monday despite not wanting to watch any more Nier: Automata-related stuff at all... went well! I can't wait for this game. I loved the first Nier to death and it's one of my favourite games ever. I was a little worried combat would be different now because I didn't like Bayonetta or Wonderful 101 combat, but it actually felt close enough to the first Nier (though a lot of people hated the first Nier combat, so there's that  ). I highly recommend playing the first Nier if you don't know it yet  The huge bosses are not only appearing in Automata, and the soundtrack of the first Nier is one of the most amazing things I heard in my entire gaming life, especially when fighting said bosses. |
