ok
Discussions about a roleplaying thread would normally happen by PM between the players, but as a tutorial, this is a public thread so people can see how the player discussion works.

Err... should I make an introduction in "chasing the stars" at this point? Reads as an interesting character Space Cowboy, do you have more to say before the Drell turns up?

Hey guys, I just noticed it, I think that some of your character links are incorrect in the RP thread, as they don't point to your character. You probably just used the link from the original example. Not really crucial, but hey. Yeah mine isnt done right, sorry. I should go correct it.

It serves as a reminder that it's their turn. Speaking of which another rule is that the poster has a week to respond (HOWEVER this rule should be softly enforced to acknowledge the fact that the poster may have real life things that they may be in the way.) In regards to this rule, I'd like to discuss it a little further. Obviously I agree that you can't push people too much do to real life time constraints, however I'm slightly concerned that potential breaks of a week for each post are too much and may cause an RP thread to simply die off, as people's attention will simply move away, and the thread will also become less interesting for lurkers and posters alike and factually dead for most of the time. I'm interested to know what the rest of you guys think on this as well.Smiles is quoting a rule from RDF. A week was arbitrary and no one ever let a thread sit that long. Unless they were away or waiting or something for whatever reason. The time limit is there because they needed to put something. In practice we can remind someone sooner if it seems like they are taking too long or have forgotten. Of course, nagging someone who may be busy isn't going to be appreciated either. If SofaJockey wants to put up a rule like this, he may make it more flexible or tighter, depending on what participation is like. Since this is a bigger forum, different guidelines will likely apply.

I don't think we can let a thread 'hang' for a week.
Even if folk are busy they can surely pop their head in daily, so my instinct is that after 36 hours, the OP can bypass/tag the next poster?
If a poster genuinely needs to be away for an extended period or drop out entirely, they just need to let the OP know so that their departure/demise may be handled.
So the rule I'm thinking of is that:
If a tagged player does not respond within 36 hours, the OP may more the plot on around them until they can post. Or 48 hours? 3 days seems a bit long, these things are more fun and interesting when they are moving along.

Yeah, that was my thinking, I just don't want to see this section die an early death because of rules of all things. What do you think on a 3 day limit? It really depends how busy this place gets, and how much time the participants have. Lets say I have 2 threads waiting for me. I can only post two per day due to work, other commitments. So no problem, I can get both done in one day. On RDF a few times I had 8 or 9 threads waiting for me. There's no way I got through all that in 3 days, even if I could keep up the 2 per day posting rate. A week at least ensures you have the weekend to work on it. Shorter limit may mean quality suffers as someone races through each post to get them all done. It may also add to burn out. I really don't mind either way, but these factors are something to think about. Also, in practice, I've never forgotten or lost interest in a thread due to waiting. YMMV of course, but if your interest is waning, its likely other factors than just the posting rate.

In my view, better to pop into one thread regularly than 8 threads irregularly.

I like Sofa's idea on time periods, for the most part. I consider myself pretty busy, but would like to think I am capable of drumming up a small post every few days.
I'd like to think if someone actively participating is going to be away for an extended time, they'd give a heads up. Like, for example, I'm going to be on a road trip to Texas Jan. 17-23. That's a full week. So, I'd give the heads up in the discussion thread and we could figure out a logical temporary sideline for my character - maybe she's off being a loner for a bit or, if it's a battle, maybe she gets knocked unconscious for a while. That sort of thing.

Is the text color coding a normal thing? Space Cowboy ? I'm finding the text contrast quite hard to read, and different people have different theme colors as well?

Sorry for throwing the order off a little. The next post I make, I'll leave a little open-ended so that either Space Cowboy or @tzeenchianapostrophe can respond, and that way maybe Laughing Man can get a turn back, so to speak. Up to you two. Also, I'm with Sofa on the colors. The purple-type one I highlighted so I could read it. I'm using the normal BSN Theme.

I'm going to suggest that we keep to plain color text so that we don't create complexity? Does that work for everyone?
