Should I pick an archetype and focus on prestige or play all to get a feel. Like the legionnaire. Mained a board sword for my sp. I've read a ton of posts but trying to play smart

Your call. I'd say try everything you can and use classes for which you have the best gear. You may find something you enjoy and play well to begin grinding out some promotions. But, for the record, Legionnaire, Silent Sister and Arcane Warrior are the most survivable of each class and useful to get a feel for MP, but more notably when trying a higher difficulty. 1H warriors gain bonus experience for blocking enemy attacks with Shield Wall (once per enemy), and any class that has some form of barrier will provide bonus experience in the same way (enter Arcane Warrior). Silent Sister is just a powerhouse.
Worth mentioning that enemies don't actually have to hit the shield to proc the experience bonus. They can hit you in the back and it'll still apply if you were blocking.

You can play it easy and follow "Fast promotions for dummies" method (Legionnaire, Silent Sister and Arcane Warrior) which is boring as hell, or you can play it smart and go with all agents. I had an argument once with one player who said that it is impossible to play any other characters on NM with, for example 30 stats and that I am lying that I played and survived with Archer or Necro in my early days. Key thing is to concentrate on CC and survivability skills rather than pure DPS, even with Legionnaire, Silent Sister and Arcane Warrior.

While some agents are a lot of fun to play with(Necromancer, Avvar), they will be more enjoyable with some promotion and good gears. Like Minuos and SassaMFG said, Legionnaire, AW, silent sister are the toughest of each class and good for harder difficulties where you get more exp/gold. But playing the same few characters over and over again gets boring fast. (especially silent sister ) Each agent of one class plays very differently from another so don't hesitate to give everyone a try. There are no good or bad choice. Just play the ones you like to play. Do understand the builds you choose for them though. If you find some of them too squishy to stay alive or couldn't do enough damage, gain a few more promotions/find better gears then come back to them. Promotion helps your agents perform better, but it's not the goal of the game. Having fun is.

Right. I think ist much better to start with Routine Games, see which Agents makes fun, what do you have to skill, wich skills you like and so on. I played at first Routine so long as i can make it alone. Then the next difficult and so on. You will find other Player for your friendlist with the same Level, you can explore the game together, i think that makes fun. One Day you and your Team wins the first peri match, you are happy. Later you killed the first Nm Dragon and so on. The other way is to go fast on to high difficult Levels, perhaps you find games where you can stay, the other Players carry you, you are many times in fade, you are killing nothing and the game is for the other Player more difficult. Makes this realy fun? Just my 5 Cent.

Later you killed the first Nm Dragon and so on. Yes. I had vivid memory of the day when I stumbled up on some chatty players who were buzzing over mic in a perilous pug. I added them to my friend list and we started challenging Nightmare regularly, like everyday... Sometimes it took us 40 minutes to win, sometimes we were annihilated...but they were always great games in which we shared a lot of laughs... and tears. Some time later I happened to run into Tuesday Dragon Slayer Club. Killing NM dragon was no longer a challenge for me but we planned and have played a lot of crazy/goofy games together for months since then. Fun!
