I've always wondered about the nature of Legion. I assumed his "we are geth" meant that he was simply networked to all non-heretic geth. When he talks of "programs," I always assumed that meant all the geth he was connected to at the time. In ME, we are introduced to various models of geth. But where does Legion fit in? He seems like an ordinary geth trooper. Do all geth have the ability to communicate to humans? (They once communicated with their former Quarian masters; I would think they all have that ability.) Does he ever fully explain the N7 armor? Did he develop some strange affection for Shepard Commander during his scouting missions on Eden Prime and elsewhere? Why did the geth want him to find Shepard? Legion meant more than one thing, at least in part that it doesn't distinguish itself from any other non-heretic geth. However, Legion specifically says there are 1,183 geth programs inhabiting its unique mobile platform. It was intentionally designed to be able to operate outside of the normal geth network in order to communicate with organics. According to the wiki, the typical geth only houses about 100 programs and so requires being connected to the network to be "smarter than a varren" (which is Tali's exact quote for their intelligence level - that of a varren - outside of the network). Legion is the only geth unit able to act independent of the geth network. That Legion could talk was also considered extremely unusual, both by Tali and Miranda (who I had on the mission with me). EDIT: No, there was no full explanation for the armor piece. It apparently went to Alchera following Shepard's death, having been sent to find Shepard. The wiki points out how Legion was evasive about why it had the armor piece and the suggestion was that Legion made an irrational/emotional decision, something geth don't do. Perhaps a sign that Legion is true AI on its own rather than only when connected to the geth network.

Does he ever fully explain the N7 armor? Did he develop some strange affection for Shepard Commander during his scouting missions on Eden Prime and elsewhere? Why did the geth want him to find Shepard? 1. 2. 3. Perhaps a sign that Legion is true AI on its own rather than only when connected to the geth network.1. Many thanks! So Legion is souped up to be able to act independently as a long-range scout? I had always wondered whether he had been part of a larger group decimated by adversaries. A lone scout makes sense; better chance to be able to observe without being observed. (I'm surprised he never returns to base to get his chest plate replaced.) 2. In some way, this doesn't make sense; the geth go to war against the Quarians after the geth become sapient. It makes it seem as if the geth took an evolutionary step backward after driving out the Quarians. "Dumb as a varren" makes them seem more like limited robots as opposed to true AI. 3. Perhaps a sign of his growing sophistication as he has experiences outside of the Collective. Perhaps Legion is truly impressed with the way Shep was ultimately able to defeat Sovereign. In some ways, parallels how EDI develops, especially after she acquires a body.

I invite Jelly Climbers up to my cabin for dinner.
I got dressed up for Kickme to get her something, something. I meet a guy named Donut Hulk. Got into his vault. He wants to show me the hard way in his toy gunship. He forgot that toys can break very easily.
I head to the crippled reaper to get the MNO. There's the reaper. Its still kicking. Lets get the NMO, destroy its drive core so it falls into the planet nearby. A Kett just said my name. Ok. Lets bring the Kett on My Ship. Why does it have N7 armor? Was the Alliance training robots? Does the Alliance want to replace humans with robots in the military? I need to ask about that the next time I see whoever.
So Tally Zebra vas MY Ship is being charged with treason? Ok. I say put her against the wall in fornt of a firing squad. Wait a minute. I have to listen to what the quarians want to do. Tally wants to find her father on a ship that has Kett. There's her dad. He's dead. Turns out he's responsible for what happened. What should I do? I turn over the evidence. Tally's father was a bad guy.
Now to makes plans about heading to the Beta 4 relay.

It makes it seem as if the geth took an evolutionary step backward after driving out the Quarians. "Dumb as a varren" makes them seem more like limited robots as opposed to true AI. Not really. All the geth on Rannoch were linked into the network. They were not dumb, just naive. However, being part of the network requires moving together to stay part of it or making use of networked comm buoys (I think it was said in the game). This is why so many people took issue with the geth as portrayed in ME3. They were only a true AI as part of the network. When separated from it they aren't much more than dumb robots. They were okay with that, planning to house the entire network in one floating platform. When you complete one of the missions (geth fighter squadrons, I think), a bunch who were freed from the Reapers inhabit several geth prime bodies. We also get to see what a geth "brain" looks like with Reaper upgrades and it shows that individual geth (versus masses of them in a single platform) are independent. It changes the nature of the geth entirely.

Everyone survived?! Are you ill or something? Ha I recruited 9 with 6 of them loyal. The purpose to have them survive was to setup for what I will be doing in ME3. But it is very rare that I have all survive. I will make up for it the next time I play ME2.

Melody Shepard, Colonist/Sole Survivor/Infiltrator, ME2 Insanity: With the Normandy's battle damage repaired and all systems nominal, Melody toured the ship, figuring that her colleagues all deserved their CO's ear after what had happened. Kelly was traumatized by her experience; Chakwas, Donnelly and Daniels were grateful that the squad had come to their aid. Most of the squad expressed scepticism at Melody's decision to preserve the Collector base. Jack didn't offer an opinion; Melody suspected that the nihilistic biotic truly didn't care. Melody spent a little time talking with Legion, asking about the N7 armour welded to its housing. Legion explained that it had traced the steps that Melody took during and after the Sovereign crisis, starting on Eden Prime and finishing at the Normandy SR-1's crash site. The N7 armour had been Melody's, recovered from the crash site and used to partially repair damage sustained some time previously. When Melody asked about the significance of using a piece of her armour, Legion was unable to respond. Before returning to CIC, Melody paused in the tech lab, still functioning under EDI's control, but quiet and empty without its scientist salarian. She wondered what he would have thought of her decision; eager to examine the Collector/Reaper tech, or concerned for the potential for misuse? Melody ordered the Normandy to Illium, reasoning that the crew and squad deserved some shore leave. She decided to visit Liara while in the neighbourhood and pass on some Cerberus intel regarding the Shadow Broker. Prior to disembarking, she booked an appointment with Dr Chakwas to get the (albeit shallow) scars on her face healed, finally completing the Lazarus reconstruction. Liara took the Shadow Broker intel back to her apartment for examination; Melody agreed to join her there that evening. She arrived to find a crime scene — someone had made an attempt on Liara's life — with Spectre Tela Vasir investigating. The two of them found a hidden message indicating that Liara had gone to an office building to meet a contact; they agreed that she was likely in danger. Unwilling to interrupt everyone else's shore leave, Melody's backup consisted of Legion, who did not care about leave; and Grunt, for whom killing things was the best kind of recreation. Per Legion's specifications, she fabricated a Widow sniper for it to use. Arriving at the office building, they found the place swarming with Shadow Broker mooks who blew out three floors in a crude further attempt to kill Liara. The squad fought their way through the building and found Liara's contact dead, execution-style. Liara appeared on the scene and named Vasir as the assassin; after a brief scuffle, Vasir fled the scene in her skycar, taking crucial data with her. Melody and Liara pursued Vasir in a borrowed taxi, with Legion along for the ride. After a somewhat eventful chase, Vasir's car was brought down on the roof of Hotel Azure. The squad fought several waves more Shadow Broker agents (this was a tedious, derpy mess of a battle that took me several goes until I remembered that I had Squad Cryo Ammo which helped with both crowd control and faster killing) and pursued Vasir, finally catching up with her gatecrashing a party. Vasir took one partygoer hostage as the others fled. Melody distracted Vasir by reminding her that she was responsible for the loss of the Destiny Ascension and death of the rachni queen, while Liara threw a table at her. With the hostage situation resolved, a protracted battle began. Vasir's vanguard powers made her far too mobile to snipe, but Melody and Liara prevailed using Incinerate and Warp, with Legion's drone providing distraction. (This took three or four tries; I got to the final phase in one attempt, but that Shockwave stunlock did me in repeatedly in the last stretch of the battle). As she lay dying, Vasir attempted to justify being a Shadow Broker double-agent by claiming that Broker intel had helped her save countless lives as a Spectre, and said that it was not so different from Melody's work with Cerberus. Liara analysed the data that Vasir had taken, using it to pinpoint the Shadow Broker's location. Before departing, she and Melody spoke a little about the choices she had made that had led her on this path: she had crossed the Shadow Broker while recovering Melody's body, preventing it from falling into Collector hands, and had seen a trusted friend captured in the process.

I can´t understand how you guys deliberately cut game content by letting someone die. Anyway, I finally decided to do all the achievements of ME1. - finish the game in the hardcore. I am doing this now and I foresee a gentle breeze ahead. So far I have not identified what's different in relation to the difficulty I always play, Veteran. - use warp, lift, stasis and singularity 75 times. As you can see, I've never played with Adept/Vanguard before. - Kill 75 enemies with the shotgun. - End the game in insanity and reach level 60. Not a little anxious for these two. I'll still see the best approach for this, try both at once, or speedrun Insanity and then import a character for the third time to reach level 60. - have Garrus, Liara and Ash for the majority of the game. I´m with Liara and Garrus right now and I´ll save Ash and her broken Imunity for the Insanity run.

I can´t understand how you guys deliberately cut game content by letting someone die. Speaking for myself only: because sometimes it enables different content. For example, I let Mordin die in my current ME2 playthrough because doing so enables content with Padok Wiks in ME3.

I can´t understand how you guys deliberately cut game content by letting someone die. If you're concerned about it a trilogy run, you can, for example, just do a non-import ME3 run. Shepard will have made largely Renegade choices (Council dead, no one is loyal, Ashley alive, Wrex dead, rachni queen dead, Maelon's data deleted, a few ME2 squadmates dead). You get the impact of Renegade choices and only have to live with it for the one game. I don't think there's much cut, really. You still have all the same missions but they play out differently.

Will start ME3 PT with Loredana soon. I've installed the MEHEM mod but am having problems installing the extended conversation with Anderson. Are you supposed to use a mod manager with it? Any other mods for ME3 I should consider? You didn't get an answer to this, did you? It installs as DLC, so you don't need to use mod manager. What kind of installation problems did you have?

I can´t understand how you guys deliberately cut game content by letting someone die. It adds replay value. A couple of examples. If Jack dies, Grissom Academy has a different outcome. If Wrex isn't recruited or is killed in ME1, ME2/3 has a different krogan in charge. As said by another poster, if Mordin dies in ME2, his replacement, Padok Wiks, takes his place. Good character Speaking for myself only: because sometimes it enables different content. For example, I let Mordin die in my current ME2 playthrough because doing so enables content with Padok Wiks in ME3. Yep. He's a good character. Its worth doing a playthrough with Mordin dead. Though a lot of folks wouldn't agree.

Laura Shepard, Colonist, Sole Survivor This is my last post with Laura, who over the course of three games (two of them twice) has become my favorite protagonist alongside Hawke. Last year, I was pretty much convinced I would never play Mass Effect. I'm thrilled to have been so wrong. In London, Anderson explained the plan to take out the mini-reaper guarding the beam, and then get a small team up to the Citadel. Anderson left Shepard alone with her crew, and she gave a stirring speech. She told them to remember what they were fighting for, and that they would never be fighting alone. Shepard took Garrus and Ashley as her ground team, and they wasted no more time setting the plan in motion. I did the entire Earth sequence on Hardcore, and it wasn't too bad overall. Shepard died once near the beginning (I let her get surrounded...stupid), but this section required several applications of medi-gel to both Garrus and Ashley. It was mostly the multiple-brutes-at-once waves that did it, although I think one of them was done in by a screamer. With the mini-reaper destroyed, the team ran for the beam...only to have Harbinger show up. Harbinger's attacks nearly destroyed the entire team. Garrus was seriously wounded...and Ashley was not in much better shape. Shepard called the Normandy for an emergency extraction. Shepard half dragged Garrus onto the Normandy, where he had to be restrained from trying to follow Shepard. She had made a promise to him -- No Shepard without Vakarian -- and now she had to break that promise to give him a chance to live. The man who had followed her into hell and back, who had believed in her when no one else had, could not follow her to the end. The Normandy took off to rejoin the fleet, and Shepard ran ahead to the beam. She did not make it unscathed...but she did make it. This guy sitting against the debris was moving shortly before I took the screenshot. I figure he lived long enough to tell Hackett that Shepard and Anderson had made it to the beam, when initially it was thought that the entire team had been killed. Shepard arrived to the Citadel, surrounded by human corpses and Keepers. Anderson had made it through the beam shortly before she had, and she set out to find him. Unfortunately, TIM found him first, and had him under physical control. As if it hadn't been clear enough to Shepard before, it was now horrifyingly obvious: The Illusive Man was indoctrinated. He began ranting and raving about controlling the reapers and seizing their power for the betterment of humanity. In a moment of clarity, TIM finally saw in himself the same thing that Shepard did and, seeing no hope left for himself any longer, he killed himself. Shepard scrambled to the console to open the arms of the Citadel so that the Crucible could dock. She heard Anderson behind her, crawling forward and pulling himself upright. She sat next to him as he died. They watched the Earth below them and talked about Shepard's future. Anderson couldn't focus well enough to see how badly Shepard was bleeding, but she pretended, for his sake. After Anderson had gone, Shepard sat staring at Earth for what seemed like a long time, until Hackett's voice came through her comms. The Crucible still hadn't fired, so Shepard crawled forward toward the console. She passed out before she could reach it. While she lay there unconscious, the Citadel opened completely, and the Catalyst connected with Shepard's consciousness just as Leviathan had done, but this time taking the form of the little boy who had been haunting her dreams. It tried to tell Shepard she had choices other than destroying the reapers. It tried to convince her to take control of the reapers, killing herself in the process, but ensuring peace for the galaxy. It tried to convince her to end the conflict forever by merging the reapers with organics. But Shepard had watched both Saren and The Illusive Man spiral into madness in pursuit of these goals, as the reapers took control of them instead. And then she knew: this was the reapers' last attempt to indoctrinate her, defeat her, and continue the cycle...and she would not let that happen. She woke up, and readied her weapon. The Crucible charged itself to fire, and Hackett ordered the fleet to leave the system. The beam from the Crucible passed through each relay, causing varying degrees of damage to each one. The geth and EDI went dark. However, every reaper in the wake of the beam was rendered immediately inert. As the Citadel's control chamber began to collapse around her, Shepard thought about those she'd lost, about Garrus who she'd left behind, and she made peace with her death just before she lost consciousness. The AftermathThis might be a good time to mention that I used John P's Alternate MEHEM, but that I completely forgot I had it installed. Imagine my surprise when I reached the ending So here we go: JP's MEHEM, plus Extended Cut, plus headcanon. After Hackett ordered the fleet to leave Sol, he held his flagship back to evacuate last, but ran out of time. However, this turned out to be fortuitous for Shepard. After the beam passed Earth, leaving behind dead reapers, Hackett suited up, gathered a small team, and headed to the Citadel in a shuttle to look for Anderson and Shepard. Shepard was kept under sedation in a planetside hospital under a false name to protect her from any lingering Cerberus sympathizers, reporters, and other such leeches. She suffered severe burns over her arms, legs, and most of her torso where her armor had begun to melt onto her, and had to undergo extensive skin grafts to repair the damage. By the time she woke up, Garrus was waiting at her bedside. The Normandy, like much of the fleet, hadn't made it to the Charon relay before the beam hit. However, the beam had caused some damage to the ship, so it had to limp back to Earth at sub-light speeds. They most certainly didn't crash land on any weird planet, though if they had, I imagine that Garrus and Ashley would have exited the ship with Joker The first order of business for the fleet left in the Sol system was making sure everyone had enough food for the years ahead. What could be grown on Earth was planted as soon as possible, and what couldn't be grown was synthesized. Rations were tight, but more people survived than not. With the relays damaged, it would take several years to travel even to the closest homeworlds -- Palaven and Tuchanka -- at FTL speeds. Some ships decided to risk the long journey anyway; some of those were never heard from again, though expeditions were sent to search for survivors in the years after the relays were repaired. Most, however, were unwilling to risk the trip, and opted to stay in the Sol system until the relays were repaired. The Keepers took over repairs on the Citadel, leaving the fleets to repair the relay. The reapers were scavenged for parts. Several years later, the Charon relay had been repaired, but no one knew whether any of the other relays had been fixed yet. The Alliance sent an unmanned probe through the relay headed for Palaven...and received a response. Earth would always be the human homeworld, but the battle and ensuing years had changed it forever: Earth became a multi-species society, as people who had made a temporary home there, waiting for the relays to be fixed, decided to stay. Wrex was one of the few who set out for Tuchanka before the relays were repaired. Shepard heard from him soon after the Charon relay was fixed: he and Eve's first baby was a girl...named Mordin. She was the first of many children for them. Shepard herself spent a few more years serving as the captain of the Normandy (though with several promotions), before retiring with Garrus on the new Citadel. They both took civilian jobs, Shepard with software engineering, and Garrus still calibrating giant guns. They did end up adopting a few children, though not krogan ones. And...thus ends my journey with Laura Shepard. I've gotten pretty attached to her, so she'll probably end up like Hawke, where I will come back later to play pretty much the same character again. But before I do that, I intend to do a renegade playthrough of the trilogy with an Ashley romance. I'll probably do it simultaneously with my next DAI playthrough. It should be interesting

From the Journal of Ioan Shepard:
- Heretic Station: Somehow I've got 12 people following me around doing whatever I tell them to do. That's outstanding. But one of them is a geth and it's got a problem. I don't think I can afford for it to be disloyal because I need it to have my back. So I'm heading to this geth heretic station to get rid of them. They're supposed to be the ones who worked with the Reapers anyway. - Since Tali was biased against the geth, I decided against bringing her. Instead, I had Kasumi. She knows her way around tech, even about submersing herself in it. In any case, Legion mentioned that originally the plan was to destroy the heretics but now the virus that was planned for the "normal" geth could be turned against the heretics to bring them back in. And I thought of Eden Prime, of the geth who put humans up on those dragon's teeth and turned them into husks. Couldn't imagine letting them off the hook for that. It looked like restoring them would give the geth the experience of what it's like to be reprogrammed by the Reapers. Could be problematic. In the end, I figured the heretic geth, even if brought back, might still end up deciding to worship the Reapers again. It was safer to destroy them. Since the geth couldn't come to a consensus, I was given the choice. We set the place to blow and hightailed it out of there. Legion was now loyal to me. - Normandy: As soon as I got out of my armor, Joker told me Legion and Tali were having a "chat". Tali had a gun to Legion. He had hacked her omni-tool and learned about the experiments the quarians had done on geth and wanted to relay that information to the rest of the geth. It would trigger a war, without doubt. I mentioned that doing so would weaken them both and make them useless when the Reapers showed up. Legion relented and Tali, as a gesture of good will, gave Legion to non-classified information to send ahead. Not nearly as difficult as Jack and Miranda. - The IFF was installed but more testing was needed. The squad took a shuttle to the Citadel. I gave forged ID's I found to a couple of asari who were flagged as potential geth infiltrators. Ridiculous. Then I got a message from EDI saying that the entire crew of the Normandy except Joker had been abducted by the Collectors. Apparently that IFF was broadcasting our location. Joker had to disable EDI's shackles so that she could take control of the ship's defenses and eject the Collectors. Otherwise, they would have been there when we returned. It was time, anyway. We were going after the Collectors and we were going to rescue our crew. - Omega 4 Relay: Stopped by my cabin. One last look at Kaidan's picture on my desk. I wondered if I'd ever see him again, if we'd ever get the chance to talk and set things right between us. Then I had a chat with TIM. He wished us good luck but I knew we were prepared. - The trip through the relay was rough, not like usual for a mass effect relay, but we still made it through okay. The other side was littered with the remnants of destroyed ships, many of which were ancient. Then something came after us. We evaded most hits but nothing got through our new armor and shields. At least not until something made its way into the cargo hold. I took Jack and Grunt to investigate. It was some kind of weird "eye" that shot lasers. After two attempts, we destroyed it. Then, after more evasive maneuvers, we got to what we assumed was the Collector Base. There were no alarms. Judging by what we saw outside, it was obvious the Collectors never imagined anyone getting this far. - Entry meant bypassing a door and vents were the way. Jacob volunteered but the only real options were Tali and Kasumi. I picked Kasumi, while Miranda would head up a fire team. Then we were off. I took Garrus and Jack with me. The base reminded me in a lot of ways of the Collector ship we had boarded. I guess that shouldn't be a surprise. Harbinger continued to take control of Collectors and I continued to kill his host bodies. But I realized something about him talking about controlling the forces of the universe. So do I. So does Jack. Samara. Miranda. Jacob. Thane. Also Wrex, Liara and Kaidan. He wasn't so special. First part of the mission was complete. - In the next room we saw people encased in something like glass. I saw colonists and my crew. However, I watched one colonist, still alive, dissolve before my eyes. It was horrifying. We quickly broke the crew out. Didn't want to risk the same for them. Dr. Chakwas said the colonists had been "processed" by little robots, turned into gray liquid and pumped through the tubes above. No idea why. We wanted to go toward where those pipes led but EDI said it was filled with seeker swarms and Mordin's countermeasure wouldn't be enough. I suggested a biotic field and decided Samara was, if not the strongest (maybe Jack is her match), but the most disciplined of them all, would be the person to do this. Took Jack and Jacob as potential biotic support for Samara while Miranda led a second fire team. - Then it was time for the final push. Took Garrus and Miranda with me. Everyone else would defend against the Collectors and husks. Harbinger popped up at least five times, plus Collectors, husks and scions, all on those mobile platforms. One of them had a control panel we could use to take us where we needed to go. - EDI said that readings suggested organic and non-organic materials, massive in scope. She said that her calculations suggested a Reaper and when we got there we saw a skeletal humanoid form. All the tubes led to it. Tens of thousands of humans had been turned into goo to make this things come alive and much, much more would be needed for its completion. Had to be destroyed. I don't think "abomination" is too strong of a word for what it was. She further speculated that this was how Reaper "reproduction" worked. They took the essence of a species and used it to construct new members. All those Reapers out there were the remnants of species killed by the Reapers. The ultimate husks. We had to destroy the tubes feeding it, causing it to fall into the depths below. That's when TIM called. He wanted me to save this place - the human Reaper, the Collector Base. I remembered he made husks. They were at Cerberus bases. No reason to think he might not try again. I couldn't hand this tech over to him. The tens of thousands who died to make this Reaper deserved more than to be studied for future use. When even Miranda disagreed with TIM, you know it's wrong to save any of this. I refused and Miranda resigned. I knew I was right to trust her. - We placed some charges but then the human Reaper rose up to fight. It had weak points that had to be exploited. It was a tough fight and we nearly lost but in the end that thing was destroyed, hopefully forever. There aftermath of its death nearly killed the three of us but we escaped. We hit the relay just as the base was exploding. I doubt we'd hear from the Collectors again. - Normandy: I formally cut things off with TIM. He wasn't happy about it but entirely powerless. Meanwhile, I had a crew that was loyal beyond anything you could imagine. They all knew they were moments away from being liquefied but had been saved. Same for the squad. They had to be paid to get in but now they were a unit. My unit. Jack's idea of "going pirate" was sounding amazingly good. There was still one mission left, which was Hackett's. If he was right, there was a Reaper artifact to be found. Once that was done I was going to have to decide what to do. I knew with this mission complete, and Cerberus ties cut, I could formally resume Spectre duties. That would be something to consider later.

Melody Shepard, Colonist/Sole Survivor/Infiltrator, ME2 Insanity: The location of the Shadow Broker's base had been pinpointed, so Melody recalled the crew and squad from shore leave and ordered the Normandy to Hagalaz in the Hourglass Nebula. The base was a colossal airship flying high in the perpetual electrical storms surrounding the planet. Melody, Liara and Legion worked their way along the exterior of the ship, sniping the Shadow Broker's guards as they went, looking for a way in. They eventually found a hatch, protected with a complex lock that took several minutes to hack, requiring the party to bunker down and hold the location while they waited. (Difficult fight, took four or five attempts; tricky to avoid getting flanked, and on Insanity, if you take crossfire, there's next to no time to react. This was the only hard part of the ship exterior). Inside the ship, the team fought through the last of the Shadow Broker's troops, the narrow corridors requiring Melody to switch to her SMG and shotgun (no deaths, easy and fun). They located Liara's friend Feron, caged and connected to an electrical torture device from which he could not safely be freed without shutting down the power. The trio headed for the ship's main control centre, finding the Broker waiting for them. The Shadow Broker turned out to be a hulking great yahg in a sharp suit. He was remarkably well informed, knowing about the Normandy's Reaper IFF, Melody's decision to preserver the Collector base, and Legion's value to Cerberus. (I've never done this mission post-SM before, so wasn't expecting this dialogue). Melody suspected at least one mole within the Illusive Man's organization. After Liara and the Broker traded some insults, the yahg threw a table at Legion, incapacitating the friendly toaster, so Melody and Liara killed the Broker together. (This would have been almost anticlimactically easy on Insanity, except that I messed up the ommibutton and left cover when I really didn't want to ) Liara freed Feron and prepared to Assume Direct Control of the Broker's information network, her emotions running high. Melody gave her a hug that she looked like she really needed. Before they parted company, there was time for a short tour of the Normandy followed by drinks in Melody's cabin. Melody had only a few loose ends to tie up before she knew it would be time to turn herself in to the Alliance and face a court-martial for joining Cerberus. First, she ordered the Normandy to Sigurd's Cradle to intercept Javelin missiles that had been fired at a human colony by a batarian terrorist band that had occupied a missile defence station. She took Legion and Kasumi as backup. There was limited time to find the kill switch before the missiles destroyed the colony, but the batarians proved no match for her sniping and shotgunning skills (no player deaths, squad dropped once). The kill code could only destroy one of the two missiles, so Melody elected to protect the residential district, at the cost of losing the colony's industrial centre. Before departing Sigurd's Cradle, there was a Blue Suns base transmitting a false distress signal that needed dealing with. Again, Melody took Legion and Kasumi to assist. After the tough fights against Shadow Broker agents, dealing with barely-competent mercs was almost relaxing, although the double YMIR mechs were a bit of a headache. (I wanted to Cain them, but standing out of cover charging the thing proved too much for me; taking them out with small arms and AI Hacking was much, much easier ) Finally, she ran a few short errands: - protected an injured quarian from wild varren, with Zaeed and Grunt (took a few attempts; then I cheesed it with the Firestorm );
- blew up a mine containing a Reaper artefact that had turned all the mineworkers into husks, with Zaeed and Jacob (no deaths, amazingly);
- reactivated the magnetic shielding protecting a reseach station from solar radiation.
This brings Melody's Mass Effect 2 run to an end. So, here are some shakycam videos! Fighting varren ("legit" version, took a few attempts):
Fighting varren ("cheesy" version, only took one attempt):
I also loaded a save from my vanguard playthrough, kicked it up to Insanity and did the same mission (again, took a few attempts):

From the Journal of Ioan Shepard:
- Aratoht: Here I am, deep in the heart of batarian space to rescue a deep cover agent who is a friend of Admiral Hackett. This is an off-the-books mission by any standard, not that I currently owe allegiance to anyone. All I know is that she's been captured and has evidence about the Reapers. That was enough for me to go in. If not for the Normandy's stealth systems there's no way we could ever have gotten here. - I sneaked into the prison. Was in terrible condition and the presence of varren suggested prisoners came here to die. Still, I overheard a batarian questioning Kenson in a place that was inaccessible due to a laser barrier. Overheard discussion about slamming the local relay with an asteroid to destroy it. The explosion would be massive. But why do it? Then I overheard the interrogation. Kenson said the Reapers were coming to the Aratoht relay. She wanted to destroy it to keep them from coming through. But where did the intel come from? - I killed the guards and freed Kenson. She said she had to hack a system to get us a way out. Meanwhile, I would keep the rest of the batarians off of her. She really took a long time, too. Wish I'd had Tali or Kasumi with me. Or Kaidan. Eventually she got it and we escaped on a shuttle. [One guard was not shooting and blend in with the background. Took me a while to find him before I could leave.] Kenson admitted trying to destroy the relay, saying she'd found an artifact called Object Rho that proved the Reapers were coming very soon. She said the artifact gave her visions and I immediately thought of indoctrination. - Project Base: Kenson took me to her base for proof. There was a countdown to Reaper arrival that was just over two days. She showed me Object Rho. It was sitting out in the open, unshielded, with dark energy pulsing around it. Then it blasted me, giving me a vision of Reapers coming through the relay. That's when Kenson pulled a gun on me and told me I couldn't be allowed to restart the Project and prevent the Reapers from coming. Proof of indoctrination. The artifact spoke to me. Reminded me of Harbinger. Object Rho itself finally overcame me. - I awoke in a lab and had to escape. Once I had, I saw the countdown was at less than two hours. It meant I was out for two days.
- To be continued...

"You all good, honey? Do you need anything else?" "No, thank you. It was good to be outside, but I'm getting a bit sleepy now. I'll tell you a bit more and then take a nap." "Perfectly fine with me." "Alright, so... after we had picked up Garrus we headed for our next destination. A prison ship called Purgatory. Cerberus had paid to release Jack, a biotic criminal, from cryo." "A criminal?! What kind of people were you working with, sweetie?" "Well mom, like I said, they were all pretty unique. And you may not believe it, but I ended up liking Jack as well." "Wow. Can't wait for that one." "You'll see. So we arrived at the prison and we were told Jack will be available soon. But the warden on this ship had the great idea to take me as a prisoner because I'd be worth a lot. Well, at least he tried to. Garrus, Kasumi and I fought our way through some Blue Suns and proceeded to get Jack. I released her from cryo, but in the process, all prisoners were let out. Jack tore through some mechs and ran away, chaos broke out everywhere. Prisoners were fighting against Blue Suns, Blue Suns against us, and in addition the ship was starting to break apart as well. Jack had left a nice path and we could follow her tracks easily. Eventually, we had to take down the warden and some more of his goons, then we had finally caught up to Jack. Never seen anyone like her, a biotic powerhouse with a shaved head, covered in tattoos, and pissed off as hell." "She sounds like a lovely lady." "Don't judge her, mom. I had a rocky start with her, but she hates Cerberus as much as I do and I found an ally in her. We got along rather well by the end." "Okay, I'm sorry about that. You know your mother cannot shut up about some things." "No denying that, hehe." "I'm hurt, Jesse." "Riiight. So anyway, naturally Jack was suspicious because the SR-2 wore Cerberus colours, but I could convince her to come with us in exchange for letting her look at some Cerberus files. She had some real ugly ties to Cerberus I learned about later. It's no surprise she hated them." "Why? What happened?" "I'll talk about that soon. But now, I'll tell you about when we went to Horizon. The Illusive Man had told me that the colony went silent and suspected the Collectors had hit it. He also told me that Kaidan was there. Which was a bit fishy and it couldn't have been a coincidence that of all things they attacked the colony where he was stationed at. Mordin was ready with his counterattack for the seeker swarms, and so he, Kasumi and I went in. We saw many strange pods, those were for transporting the colonists. And we saw a lot of colonists in stasis. We fought through a couple Collectors until we reached the defense towers the Alliance had built recently to defend this place. But the towers weren't working before, so it was up to us to change that. For this I actually appreciated the help of EDI, the Normandy's AI." "You had an AI on board?!" "Yeah. I wasn't fond of it at first because, you know, they're forbidden, but EDI got us out of trouble numerous times. I'm not sure we would've succeeded without her. So, EDI got the towers online while we fought off more of these monstrous things, and after the towers had activated and fired upon their ship, they left. Half the colony was gone though, it was terrible. And then Kaidan appeared. He took it really bad that I was with Cerberus and hadn't contacted him earlier to let him know I had survived." "Oh who can blame him for that?" "I know, ma. I should've contacted him. And you, of course. We left things unsettled and there was no point anyway to try and explain. I knew Kaidan didn't trust me anymore, he has been through too much of Cerberus's crap before. The worst of it all was the I learned afterwards that the Illusive Man deliberately let slip rumours about Horizon being possibly hit next, about my survival and my working with Cerberus. He put Kaidan in danger because he wanted to confirm that the Collectors had a special interest in me or people I knew. What kind of person does that?" "Not a nice one, that's for sure." "I was so pissed off. But my mood lightened when I had 3 new dossiers in my e-mail account. Tali was among them. I had to get to her right away, as she was a valuable ally for me. It must've also been around that time when Jacob mentioned that the crew all might want to take care of some unfinished personal things before we were hitting the Omega-4-relay. This being a suicide mission and all. He was right, and actually he and Miranda were the first to call for me via the yeoman." "But I thought you didn't trust them?" "I didn't. But I had to make sure they were in the best possible constitution. Mistakes had to be ruled out on this mission. But I first had to get to Tali. On our way I also decided to finally let the krogan out of the tank." "Oh! And? What was he like?" "Had to put him into his place at first, but he was willing to fight for me if I'd find a purpose for him." "Can't wait to see how that plays out." "You will soon, mom. But for now that is enough. Nap time." "Sure. Rest well, honey. We'll talk later." "Count on it." Piiiics: I didn't die on Horizon! I died once during Jack's recruitment though (got flanked by the 2nd YMIR and several Blue Suns...), but it went pretty fine otherwise, even though I had to deal with some annoying bugs again. But anyway! Next up - getting Tali, yay! I think I'll take Kasumi and Garrus for this, Overload should come in handy here.

year - 2210 time - 2000 EST where- North Carolina
Announcer: Live from North Carolina at studio 54 is The Tonight Show. Heeeeeeeeeeeeere's themikefest. (the band plays music as themikefest walks around shaking hands with the audience}
themikefest: Thank you. Whew. Thank you. Tonight.....thank you. Ok. Tonight's special guest needs no introduction. Over 23 years ago she stopped giant robots from destroying our planet and the galaxy. Since that time, she has raised a family, a rather large family, she has written 2 cookbooks, a book about her life outside of the military. She's even married to the most powerful woman on Earth, if not the galaxy. Here she is,,,,Commander Elizabeth Nancy Shepard. ( the audience jump to their feet when Shepard makes her way to the couch). For the next 15 minutes, the crowd cheers.
themikefest: Welcome Commander. Shepard: You don't have to call me Commander. Lisa will be fine. "As you wish. Its hard to believe its been that long. I know you've been on my show before, but I have to keep saying thank you for what you did. (The crowd claps and cheers) " I was just doing my job. I also had a lot of help" " Yes you did. You're what...55 now. You look great. Even having 13 children. You may want to write another book explaining how you keep yourself looking good. " Hahahahaha. Thank you. I might write a book. Part of it is my kids keeping me on the move." " There is another person I want to thank. Your wife, Samantha. Because of her, Earth has rebuilt a lot faster than what was projected back in 2187. Correct me if I'm wrong. She has donated 2.1 trillion credits to cities all over the world?" "that sounds about right"( the audience stand and cheer for the next few minutes) " Someday I would like to have her on my show" " That's possible. She does like watching your show" " I'm flattered. Ok. For you folks at home, this show is 3 hours instead of 1 hour. Lisa Shepard will be giving commentary while one of my people, Bugs Bunny, play ME3. You will be able to see it on the big screen over there. I will at times ask the Commander questions. I know Commander that there might ones you can't answer. In that case I will skip to another question. If my cameraman turns the camera to the audience you will see folks wearing various costumes from the Mass Effect game. While they get that setup and the game to load, I willl ask if you still keep in contact with Bioware? " I do. I first met Casey Hudson when I was first pregnant. He wanted to make a video game based on me. When the first game was released, it did well. It was followed up with two more games." " Have you met Jennifer Hale? The one who voices you? "I have. A very nice person. I even met Mark Meer who voiced the male version of me. The rest of VA's I've met. All wonderful people."
" We're ready? Ok. Go ahead. Bugs Bunny will be playing you. This first scene takes place in Vancouver. Why were you there? " I was there getting my ship, the Normandy, retrofitted. Anderson, that's him there who I'm walking beside, told me that they had someone on Mars who found something that might stop the reapers. " " The other guy is James Vega. He's one of the people who helped you stop the reapers." "Yes. A wondeful guy. He has been very helpful since the war ended." " There's Ashley Williams. She helped you as well?" "She did. She's also married to James. They own a security firm. They provide security to a number of companies as well as my wife's company." " At this point the reapers arrive. You and Anderson head to the Normandy. What was your first thought?" "I thought they needed to be stopped as quickly as possible. I could hear people screaming." "How about this boy?" "That is something Bioware chose to add to the game. What happened is I made it to the Normandy while Anderson stayed to help coordinate forces against the reapers on Earth. Once onboard, Admiral Hackett said to stop at Mars to get the information that could help stop the reapers." "You arrive on Mars with Ashley and James. Here you encounter Cerberus. Tell me about them." "Not much to say. They were power hungry that wanted to control the reapers and be the protectors of humanity. " "I have no problem with that. I just didn't agree with their methods. They had to be put down." "This is Liara T'Soni. One of your former squadmates." "Yes. She was studying plans for a weapon to destroy the reapers." "What about the rest of this mission?" "It didn't happen like that. Once I got rid of the Cerberus soldiers, we headed to the Citadel to talk with the council to get help." "So that Eva robot never happened." "No. It's something Bioware put in." "Ok folks. Its time for a commercial break. I'll be back with the Commander in 3 minutes"

Karen Shepard, Soldier, ME2 cont'd:
Minos Wasteland: Aequitas
Joker piloted the Normandy to the Minos Wasteland to gather resources and explore a little bit. In the Fortis System, scans detected alien life signs coming from a mining facility, but no sign of the facility staff. Shepard, Tali, and Samara took the shuttle to the surface to investigate.
They found that the facility had been overrun by husks. The miners had evidently discovered a reaper indoctrination device, with results similar to what had happened to the survey team on Trebin (back when Shepard was investigating Saren).
The team took out all of the husks and destroyed the reaper device.
