I agree with OP , Dragon age 2 does a certain charm about it.
Bioware seemed to have went more in depth when creating the atmosphere of the game and all the other small bits if added content that can make a massive difference.
But yeah this game rocks ♡

They had a couple of major foibles with the game re combat and reusable environs and part of the ending but setting that aside DA2 is a massively underrated as far as BioWare games are concerned.
Some great companions, great quests, tons of really good memorable ancillary characters. Just a really good game overall that took WAY more abuse than it should have.

Oh, Dragon Age 2 is definitely my true love.
Partly that's because of the combat (force mage!) and the skill trees. I really enjoyed levelling my characters and trying out new abilities. Oh, and companion specializations - I loved those, why Inquisition didn't have them I have no idea. How good would it be if Cassandra had special Seeker powers?
The characters were a huge factor as well - i found them all endlessly entertaining and I felt really involved in their stories.
I think it's the narrative structure and focus on Hawke that really does it for me though. I adore the other two games, but they're about saving the world, first and foremost, whereas Dragon Age 2 is the story of one person and their family and friends before anything else. You got to see that story develop over seven years and that truly made Hawke feel like a real person to me - a real character on a par with the companions.
I thought the time skips were a great idea - they really gave you the chance to imagine what might have happened in between. Wandering around Kirkwall in act one and meeting people Hawke had met during that first year was fantastic!
Oh, and Meredith quoting the Chant of Light is possibly the coolest thing I've seen in a game!

And then there are those brilliant DLC's. Legacy and MOA. Both intense storyline and add a lot to the lore. Not to mention challenging combat and super challenging optional bosses. I just wished we had option to kill Tallis.

The Sky Horror in MotA and Malvernis in Legacy. What is that? First one is damn arcane horror (which can one-shot your whole team if you're not prepared) that can be summoned from mysterious altar on hunting grounds in MotA. Second one is some crazy mage/spirit/demon/whatever (which goes through different phases) that can be summoned after obtaining Warm Orb and backtracking to mysterious pulsing obelist that appears in first location in Legacy.

I don't remember them They're missable. Especially Malvernis, since no quest leads to it.

I don't remember them Easily missable. You need to backtrack. Specially Malvernis. You need to grab the orb but not enter the Gate, backtrack all the way to first gate in Vimmark wasteland. If you enter inside the gate where there is statue that allows you to return to Kirkwall, you lose chance to face Malvernis. Asshole of a mage+dragon. Sky horror was worse. www.google.se/amp/s/amp.reddit.com/r/dragonage/comments/2cmpou/one_of_the_hardest_game_encounters_imo_possible/You need to start a playthrough right now. Just for these two super tough but highly satisfying encounter.

What optional bosses? The Sky Horror in MotA and Malvernis in Legacy. Also I always baited on 'Alpha Wyvern'. Not the normal one. Fuck that thing too. If I did not respec or give bow to my DW rouge or not have Avelin/Anders, I found him more challenging than the Sky horror.

I do tend to have... not the best... team for this encounter. So yeah, most of the time Alpha Wyvern is worse that The Sky Horror.

I'd say Legacy has a decent claim to be the best Dragon Age DLC.
Mark of the Assassin had nasty bosses. That bloody alpha wyvern *shudder*. Sky Horror is OK as Tallis seems like she was designed in no small part to kill it.

I liked DA2 a lot more than I expected going in. It's got areas for improvement, but since I played it after Inquisition and DAO, it still stood up well enough next to these two games, so it is pretty good For me: The characters 9/10 The story 8/10 The locations 6/10 (reused maps, urgh!) The combat 7/10 The DLC 9/10 Overall impression 8/10 so, yeah, I like it. And sarcastic mage femHawke is my absolute favorite way to play, her dynamic with Varric is priceless . . . and Anders - dammit Anders!

That Drop Dead talent she has does extra damage against magic users, which the Sky Horror is, and also does extra damage against brittle enemies. If you've got a mage with Winter's Grasp it shouldn't be too hard to set up the combo, which ought to do enough damage to quickly send the Horror behind its magic barrier. Then by the time it comes back you'll hopefully have the skills off cooldown and be able to do it again. Dispel Magic is handy for this fight too, to stop the Horror wiping you out.

I kinda made a promise not to start my fifth PT before getting a new computer, but since NVIDIA Volta -based gaming laptops are still some time away, I think I'm gonna break that promise sometime soon I really miss my celebrity crush Jo Wyatt's voice, and besides, I've still yet to do a diplomatic run

Might as well make all the bad choices at the same time period

Currently completing Mask of the Assassin in late Act 3 and my second pt to date and enjoying myself greatly. The first pt was in preparation of Inquisition so I sort of zipped through the game but now that I returned to it, and despite all the flaws, the story and its characters are really gripping I find.

I would rather have Varric or Sebastian instead of Tallis. Specially Sebastian is very very effective with his Gardian Angel skill. Tallis is hit or miss as 50% of Sky-horror Is able to his AOE bs and she is dead. She also have no resistance.

While DA2 is my least favourite of the series,i still love it.
Yes,i am truly dissapointed by the obvious hurried development(The dungeon re-use is unforgivable),i hate some of the re-designs ,and let's not forget the DLCs which have been on sale less times than Oghren has been sober(For Andraste's sake,Bioware!),but still,it's a great game!
It took a while for me to get used to some of its quirks, and i admit, aside from Varric(instant like),i despised,or at least had a neutral attitude, towards the Companions in the beginning. But they grew on me.
The biggest charm of DA2 for me is the focused on the protagonists storytelling. While the stories of the other two games regard grand matters and have an epic tone, the story of the Champion of Kirkwall has a more intimate feel.
As i've seen commented elsewhere,DA2= good game, bad Dragon Age. To that i add,bad Dragon Age>vast majority of supposedly "good" games.
