This is the confessions thread sooooo....in my first game, after freeing Imoen, I told her to find her own way back to Athkatla. Jaheira was incensed so I kicked her out of the party to be Imoen's escort. No, I wasn't playing an asshole character....well, not intentionally. I just had a full party so there was no room for Imoen to fit.

Um, I guess I have only one confession to go with... I love this game, I love Forgotten Realms and D&D, so it was always about Role-Playing for me in BG. So there were not so much outstanding or "shamefull" episodes. That said...
...I played Baldur's Gate games a lot of times (I mean it... really, I replay them every couple of years) and have seen most (if not all) original content it has. And I never was quite satisfied with the romance options it had. They were well-written, I enjoyed Viconia's one, but stll... It was not my heart's desire.
And then one day I tested the Imoen romance mod. It is the best - and became headcanon (that's what you call it, right?) for my Adrian. Can never return to the vanilla's romance options. And no, it can not really count as an incest. Ya know, those Gods...

Usefulness aside, he's hilarious to bring along. He's always messing with the other companions.

Sadly, BGIIEE introduced new characters, but did little to the old ones. Mazzy romance could be very nice addition, especially for a good dwarf/halfling/gnome character. She's one of the nicest party members, a total badass with a grandmaster bow skill - and a redhead. My last plythrough was with her, Anomen, Keldorn, Valygar and Adrian as Undead Hunter (and romanced Imoen, ofc). Oh, we kicked evil's ass, yesss sir! Paladins of the world, unite! P.S. Sarevok, picked in TOB instead of Valygar, was a nice addition. The dialogues were awesome. We made him a good guy in the end, obviously. UPDATE: By the way, rejoice! www.shsforums.net/topic/59204-mod-all-things-mazzy-v-1034-temples-know-if-you-steal-for-maevar/They DO work on such a mod. It seems romance itself is not yet ready, but it was last updated this year, so it has all chances to release.

Because I'm used to doing like 90% of chapter 2 quests before going to Spellhold, but when playing with the mod are you better off just doing the bare minimum to raise the money and rushing off after Imoen with a low level party to get her back ASAP, saving most of the quests for after you get back from the Underdark? Or will most of the new dialogue have time to trigger just fine on it's own if you do the majority of available quests first and then have Imoen along for only the stuff that doesn't even become available until after returning from Spellhold and the Underdark?

Or will most of the new dialogue have time to trigger just fine on it's own if you do the majority of available quests first and then have Imoen along for only the stuff that doesn't even become available until after returning from Spellhold and the Underdark? Well, all my latest playthroughs I went to rescue Imoen at first opportunity. For RP purposes, at least. Especially if she is a romance interest. I mean, a girl you love is in hands of a maniac, and you would go hunt some dragons in the wilderness?.. To be honest, even without romance it made more sense as she's your childhood friend and you know all too well what Irenicus is capable of. The romance actually starts only after leaving Underdark, and you'd better get there ASAP indeed. No need to skip anything you can't return to later - such as the Sahuagin city, Brynnlaw, drow questlines, etc. But most of the content in Athkatla would be better saved for later. I usually do the minimum: quests I need to get party members I want, and quests that seem urgent enough RP-wise (if someone cries that he's being killed by bandits right now, I suppose it can't wait for a month or two...). All the other things? Meh, I've got a pretty woman to save, get lost.

I find it incredibly hard to justify it to myself if I'm playing as a good or even neutral character that I'd leave Minsc or Jaheira behind, and especially difficult to somehow not feel like a completely worthless asshole if I don't take Imoen along once I reach Spellhold. I wish BG2 had a similar system to newer games like DAO where it's part of the story that all your party members are traveling with you once recruited, regardless of who is actually in your active party. That way I'd have the freedom of experimenting more with party layouts in a playthrough without feeling like a piece of shit. Don’t the characters you kick out of your party just hang out at the tavern unless/until you pick them up again? The moment I left the intro dungeon I told Yoshimo to take a hike and he’s just waiting for me at the Copper Coronet. I think I may actually prefer that system to DA:O’s; at least I know what everyone else is doing while we happy few put our necks on the line. Once I have more people in the party I’ll try to have Minsc drink his sorrows away as well.

Many of them are in the Copper Coronet, but Jaheira hangs out by the Harper safehouse at the Docks.

The ending of Throne of Bhaal is, hands down, the longest time I've ever spent on a single battle. It was about 4 hours in total from trying to beat it over a couple of days. I'd start it up, fail, fail, fail, fail, come back later and then try again. Needless to say, it was worth it in the end. Great game, but it can be brutal at times. Try it with the Ascension mod if you want a new definition of brutal. It is, however, quite cool

In BG2 I didn't know you could kill dragons until we were forced to fight Nizidramanii'yt in Suldanessellar.

Uh-hu few random thoughts:
BG II really should have had an "evil" route, hell it was perfect for it, side with the Drow, let elves pay for what they did. Still pisses me off, years after playing last.
Minsc is annoying. Fun first couple of times, but grating afterwards.
Made my own kit, still my favorite class I've ever played in rpgs. Well no, not really, but heavily tweaked one from the mods. "Sword Angel", sort of monk blademaster atheist, smiting idiots left and right.
Grey de Lisle did her best performance with Viccy. All voices in this game in fact are surprisingly great, for it's time, even generic npcs on the street. Everything sounds right
The game has some of the best loot in rpgs, especially with Item mod. Why is this so difficult to get right?...they always add much too much and spread the system "too thin". Feels they hit the right balance of quantity/quality with good itemization.

Side with the vampires over the Shadow Thieves (okay so they betray you later, but they are chaotic evil, after all) You can give Adalon's eggs to the dragon. (Though the problem with siding with the drow is that they are Fantastic Racists and kinda hate all surface dwellers.) Heck you can kill Drizzt!

The Longer Road allowed you to revive Irenicus and made him a party member, but I dunno when it occurred, in SOA or on TOB.

The Ascension mod resurrects Irenicus and Bodhi for the final showdown in ToB, and you can convince Bodhi to switch sides and join you (I think being evil is a prerequisite for that)

They didn't know he was an elf, though the scene was kind of dumb ( when he's talking to that Matriarch). Never hated a villain more than that guy, he got off easy in SoA.

Cool! A BG thread hope you don't mind me crashing in and getting comfortable I sorta played the game backwards : BG2 TOB (out of curiosity) and found out I love the game a lot. That's when I dive in BG1. Honestly, in BG1 I felt like having to slog through the game and can only play it with the npc mod. I love Kivan, Ajantis Ilvastar (WITH the mod. Without it, omg no) and Yeslick. Especially fond of that dwarf. I find it refreshing that he breaks free from that 'dwarf loves money' mold and fit the wise LG figure that Charname can depend. "Minsc and Boo and you" , "You have to gather your party before venturing forth" , "Go for the eyes" will never leave my memory, I think. Can't seem to forget 'em. Played BG2 on vanilla, then add a plethora of mods later. I love Anomen (like him more with the mod on) and I love that no matter which route you take on dealing with the death of his sister, you will always ended screwing up or at the very least, a bittersweet outcome. I like Keldorn, Mazzy, Jan. Installed a Kelsey mod so at least Imoen can have her own love life too. Her banter with Kelsey regarding cheese is hilarious with an exasperated Anomen. My favourite class is usualy a mage/thief built. Edit: spelling

Obsidian still uses that phrase when you try to leave a zone without your full party. Really?I haven't played PoE yet,but that's certainly a reason to expedite the process.

Ahahhaaaaa... "You must gather your party.."
Too bad not the same soundset. But damn makes me want to fire up BG again starting BG1.
I think one of the saddest moment for my Charname and what makes her cannot leave Imoen out from her group is when a wagon (or somesort) carrying Gorion's remains passes by and you can only 'attend' his funeral from outside of Candlekeep's walls. Imoen was there to hold her hand and omg, it felt so silly remembering back then, how a simple floating text can really crush.my.heart.into a million pieces. Damn, it still stings remembering it though. I think I'll take a break from DAI and dive back the ol' game.
