So here's a confession...Xan is the best mage in the first game simply because he has great access to defensive powers over pure nuking.
This is especially the case when I tend to play mages in these games, I focus more on the standard nuking power (easier for me due to thaco) and therefore have no need for Edwin.
I'd rather save Edwin for Baldurs Gate 2.

That sword is just so cool. Doesn't matter that he's got about three hitpoints and dies if a kobold sneezes on him.

First time playing BG2 (and 1st time playing BG series) my Charname died 6 times by a gang of kobolds when trying to escape Irenicus' dungeon Since I always play a mage/thief combo, I pay more attention to the tank class. My fave choice is Keldorn. Give him Carsomyr then watch him do wonders.

Absolutely hated Jaheira in BG...
Romanced her in SOA just because I thought her romance would be the greatest challenge.
Wound up falling in love with the character.
I guess it's true what they say, the heart of drama is conflict.

I recently played a bit of the EE version of BG1 after years of not playing the original. I got stuck doing Minsc's quest. I couldn't find his compabion no matter what. But aside from that I like some of the improvements they made. Like being able to see the characters at higher resolution. With the widescreen mod for the original BG1 and 2, the characters would disappear when playing at high resolutions. So the original KOTOR introduced me to BioWare, then I went backwards played NWN then BG1 and 2 and loved them all.

I'm not sure if you found a way to complete Minsc's quest or if you're still interested, but you find Dynaheir in one of the pits of the gnoll stronghold. It took me a bit to find her because you have to actually walk to the bottom of the pit for her to appear on screen.

I can't for some reason enter the pits. I assumed she was down there. Thank you for the help.

The pathfinding can be a bit of a pain so its best just to take your PC down and talk to her.

It's been a pain trying to get to the bottom. I've been stuck there for a month now.
