I also didn’t like how Liara’s design seemed inconsistent from game to game. It may be due to something technical like texture and Liara was just one of the characters where it was more noticeable but then there are things like her eyes. In the third game, her eyes are a very blue, well, blue whereas in the previous games her eyes were a light blue that bordered on being grey. It's not a lighting issue either: I've checked multiple shots and compared. static.giantbomb.com/uploads/original/0/1366/1801061-masseffect22011_01_1500_25_28_88.jpgPre-LOTSBstatic.giantbomb.com/uploads/scale_small/0/1366/1801066-liara.jpgLOTSBIt’s minor, I know, but it creates this sort of visual dissonance for me whenever I see her that I don’t really get with other characters so she sticks out more in a negative way because of it. There were also scenes that I disliked and with some, it is because, quite frankly, Liara could seem a bit off-putting if Shepard had barely any positive interactions with her in the first game and if she's not an love interest. I'll try to provide examples. One is the mandatory hug which I know seems minor to many but still bothers me if Shepard and Liara has barely had any positive interactions with each other. I've heard people say that Shepard and Liara might have gotten closer during the time between the first game and the second game but there's no mandatory hug for any of the other returning squadmates, barring romances, and even if this was the case, it would still be an inconsistency for players because they have not witnessed this change in the relationship. A second one concerns Shepard’s dog tags if Liara was not the romanced character. Why did she have Shepard’s dog tags if Shepard was a spaceborn? Spaceborn Shepard came from a military family so it seems very unlikely they wouldn’t want those dog tags. Also and I don't have military know-how about this but I don't think tags of deceased members are given to people who were not related or romantically involved with the deceased so it seems odd that Liara would have them even in the case of the other backgrounds if she was not romanced. It may be that I'm misremembering and it may have been said that Liara was given the dogtags by Hackett to specifically pass them on to Shepard. A third one is how Liara kept Shepard’s armor in her apartment. This is the armor that Shepard died horrifically in by either suffocated or burning up in orbit, possibly both. It kind of seem like a questionable item to remember them by as oppose to a crew picture and it just rubs me the wrong way especially if Liara is a non-li. Also, how did Liara get the armor? How did she get it off Shepard’s body? Given how Shepard died, wouldn’t the armor more or less have been fused to ‘em? Quoting you for the parts I agree with and for the fact that you expressed it better than I ever could I voted for Liara too Just to add a couple of my own personal gripes: It really irks me how breathy her voice is in the first game.. like so breathy, I swear it didn't seem as bad in the subsequent games! And she doesn't get humor/has no sense of humor. But these little complaints are nothing compared to the fact that it seems like Liara is being forced on the player throughout each game and I guess I just resent it a little. Ok, maybe a lot. I pretty much never romanced her (on purpose that is) with any Shepard as a sort of protest. I don't hate her, but she is my least favorite, especially in ME1 A close second would be Tali but only in ME1 and only because she was basically a walking codex. Although to be fair, most of the characters in ME1 had to be little info dumps so we could learn about the setting and their various cultures.

Hmmm. I like Ash in ME1, and thought she is actually one of the better characters in the three games.
I don't know who I would pick for the least favorite though. I always sacrificed Kaidan, but it wasn't because I didn't like him necessarily.
Liara was a bit goofy in ME1. She was extremely powerful in combat though so there is that.
Tali was somewhat boring in ME1. Again, useful in combat (and for crate unlocking).

The what-the-crap hug I didn't care for. My Shepard had no reason to hug the asari nor wanted to. Its funny that a Shepard that says he/she will throw her back in the volcano in ME1 would want to hug Liara. Its also funny that Liara would want to hug Shepard after hearing what Shepard says about her throwing her back in the volcano. I know if someone were to say that to me, I would avoid them let alone hug them It is odd she's the only one to be hugged and not anyone else, unless Ashley/Kaidan were romanced in ME1. Yes the hug can be avoided by not seeing her on Illium. But if the player wants to recruit Samara and/or Thane, the hug happens The dogtags bothered me. There is two versions of how she got them. One is if she is romanced and the other is if she isn't romanced. So which one is correct? I like to hear an answer for that one Bioware Here's a post about the dogtags I made however long ago When I was in the military, I was issued 2 dogtags. If a soldier is killed, one dogtag stays with the body for identification purposes the other is sent back to the unit along with all personal effects of the deceased. The belongings are then sent to the next of kin. If there is no next of kin, and the deceased has a will, his/her belongings are given to whoever. If there is no will, which in itself would be very surprising, the state will decide who gets what. She says that if she isn't romancing Shepard. I really have a hard time believing that. If Shepard is a spacer, why would Hackett give the dogtags to Liara and not to Shepard's mother? What Bioware is telling me with that is Liara is more important than Shepard's mother. If that isn't the case, I want them to tell me that and explain why Hackett gave them to Liara. That's why I have a hard time believing he gave her the dogtags. What she says she recovered the dogtags, she also mentions they changed hands more than once and ended up in Hacketts hands. He gave them to her to give to Shepard. What guarantee did he have that Shepard would see Liara? Taking the armor and then putting it in a glass case on display like its some kind of trophy is very disturbing. I would be curious why Bioware put that in the dlc. I would also guess that's when she took the dogtags. She has some serious head problems Here's another post I made talking about the dlc

Out of just ME:1? Kaidan. The guy was boring as shit.
Out of all the companions from ME:1 through to ME:3? Ashley. Kaidan improved a hell of a lot in ME:3. Ashley just remained the same, but in a tight outfit. Eh.
So my vote goes to Kaidan as least favourite, because this is only for ME:1.

I'm probably going to get alot of flak for this but I found tali the least interesting character in the whole game how she made me2 and me3 is beyond me. I barely spoke to her during me1 I just left her in the engine room never used her as squad mate. The flotilla was pretty cool to see.
My favorite squad mate is Wrex and grunt by far. Jacob was cool too.

For me it would have to be Tali. It's not that I didn't like her, but she had the least amount of development in the first game. She was basically a walking encyclopedia for the Quarian race.
