I just want blood magic and a proper one. Maybe summoning demons or ming controlling enemies that sort of shit. If I will be able to play as a racist magister it would be even better

My own personal little theory is that Razikale is actually under Minrathous. In Calpernia's story it is hinted there is something down in the depths, although I suppose that could be another Titan. I think there has to be some reason why the city has never fallen and Razikale was its patron. Trouble is why did she go silent? For that matter why did all the Old Gods go silent? I can understand Dumat once he was corrupted but not the others. In any case, it is my understanding that they fell silent before the Magisters went to the Golden City and the expedition was as much to find out why as to try and appropriate power - but I could be wrong about that.
I think Old God worship is a bit like blood magic. It would be claimed officially that no one does it, when probably quite a few do. However, the role of Black Divine carries with it a lot a political clout, so I imagine he would stamp down on their worship. Then again, Aurelian Titus got away with it even after his patron, Archon Davan, was assassinated, and allegedly was winning in his conflict with Urian, so may be Old God worship is more prevalent than we know. I suppose a lot depends on how much genuine power people can get from it or supporting people that do. I'm pretty sure there are cults to Razikale and Lusacan at the very least.
Whilst it is pretty academic now, since they were slain by the Grey Wardens, but Andoral was originally the god/goddess of unity not slaves and Zazikel was the goddess of freedom, not chaos. I hope they explain why their role in society changed and for that matter their gender.

I'd prefer a slave origin for the next protagonist since the Tevinter Imperium is about the only place in modern Thedas where slavery is openly practiced and as such it is about the only place where playing a slave is a possibility. It'd allow for an interesting look at the Imperium by starting from the bottom and seeing how it looks like before moving up and seeing how other levels of the Imperium looks like.

It would also make a change if for once the human PC wasn't a noble. If they have multi-race options and they run true to form, then human PC will be either Altus (possibly Laetans) or high rank Soporati, dwarven will be an overseer or steward in a household or part of the Ambassadoria, vashoth will be a mercenary guard or something similar and the elf will be, you've guessed it, a slave.

I know it's weird of me to say because I always complain about how sick I am of noble origins for humans but I think if they don't even have the option of a noble background in DA4, it'll be a waste. Just because the nobility of Tevinter is so radically different from what Cousland and Trevelyan and even Hawke experienced. I think if someone were to play the first game - either as a Chantry-following Cousland who doesn't have much experience with magic or mages, or an Amell/Surana who grew up in the Circle and didn't know life outside of it 'til Duncan came along - comparing that to an Altus mage would be... something else. It's almost enough to motivate me to play a human! In any case, I suspect that we'll have similar backgrounds to DAI (as in, based on race and class), with hopefully some kind of playable element. And I would love to play as a slave or former slave or a dwarf with old family ties to Tevinter! I hope they explain why their role in society changed and for that matter their gender. This is fascinating and I hope it's something we can explore in the next game. The closest we've gotten were those shrines in Legacy! I can't begin to guess why they've fallen silent, but your last paragraph mentions Andoral and Zazikel... I'm wondering, if Tevinter was/is the seat of Old God worship, and the Old Gods representing slavery/unity (which might well represent Tevinter society) and chaos/freedom have been tainted and slain, I wonder if that could potentially tie into the first-time fall of Minrathous or at least a successful revolution? Does slaying an Archdemon, in itself, count as a sort of blood magic? It is a sacrifice, after all. There is definitely blood magic involved in the Joining. Maybe that's why Solas is so terrified of the Grey Wardens seeking them out and slaying them ahead of time.

^ I'm torn between being an altus mage and an altus soporati. I'd probably do both if available. I want them to show what being a altus soporati is like and how that can affect a person's life. Imagine being born into that society, but not being a mage. It makes for some great angst and roleplay material.

We've seen hints of it with Krem, but a more personal take on it would be interesting. Even being a "weak" mage like Felix would be neat, though obviously for gaming purposes that doesn't really... work. Still keeping my fingers crossed for some kind of Ambassadoria option. Somewhere between Aeducan's super traditional royal slant and the sameyness of Brosca/Cadash's Carta roots.

Since someone mentioned Feynriel, I'll point out that any content featuring him would have to be limited due to the various choices the player can make regarding him. In addition to being in Tevinter, he could be possessed or tranquil. I do think it would be neat, though. If you think about it, he could have been potentially liberated from possession in Tevinter--or since Cassandra found a formula for reversing the rite, he could be de-Tranquilized and talk about the experience. The backgrounds I would probably most dig/expect in Tevinter for the PC would be: - Elven Slave
- Dwarven Ambassador/Noble/Dignitary (please god not something boring like laborer or more Carta; I like the Carta, but that's enough for awhile)
- Qunari Ben-Hassrath Infiltrator (probably working for a magister like the elven slave)
Alternately, they could have Slave (elf only?), Ambassador (dwarven, qunari, or human) and Magister (any race) as backgrounds, with all PCs actually signing on as secret agents for the Inquisition or disbanded remnants thereof? I'm very curious how this will go.
In any case, I want to FEEL the power difference mages have in Tevinter. I want Magisters to be scary, even to each other, and I want the gameplay to reflect that, even if it's only on a special difficulty where game balance is deliberately sacrificed. I want to feel scared playing a rogue or warrior in this game, vs. playing a mage. Make me understand the prejudice against them; it's what sets Dragon Age apart from other universes where magic is just the sword of nerds.

^ While those are a possibility (re: Feynriel), I'd prefer they not happen. It would be yet another instance of the devs ignoring player roleplay and choice in favor of their own ends. This tends to happen when they have some exciting new role for whichever character that they just can't let go and have to have. So yeah, there IS a workaround. That doesn't mean they need to take it.

I agree that they ought to respect player choice but as pointed out above, they have set up potential ways around rectifying what happened to Feynriel if you didn't give him a good outcome in DA2. Where he would be interesting would be as a counter to Solas, considering the range of his powers if you did send him to Tevinter. At present we have no idea where Solas is or what he is doing, so it is a bit difficult to counteract his plans. Having your own somniari would be a big help.
A way they could do this is by having a substitute somniari if Feynriel wasn't sent to Tevinter. There is a precedent for this approach with Legion in ME3. If he was never recruited or did not survive ME2, then a default generic Geth is used in his place for the plotline involving him. So a plotline involves seeking out a somniari in Tevinter and has Feynriel if appropriate but otherwise a different somniari, considering Tevinter is the one place where there might be the possibility of more than one somniari being present.

Further evidence for the antiquity of Minrathous. In the speech of Alexius to he Magisterium he states that the Circle of Minrathous is more than 10,000 years old. At first glance this would appear to be fatuous hyperbole as the Circles didn't appear until the modern era and humans have allegedly only been in Thedas for around 4,000 years. However, the building housing the Circle was originally the Temple of Razikale and said to be the second oldest building in the Imperium (not clear which the oldest one is). PW confirmed that many of the buildings in the Imperium were originally elven structures, which the humans repurposed and removed the evidence of the earlier civilisation, claiming them for their own. This being the case, the Temple of Razikale could indeed be closer to 10,000 years old, even though the earliest records do not go back that far. If that is the case, then it would seem there could well be a link between the Old Gods and the Evanuris. At the very least the humans used the structure for their worship because it had dragon iconography and they also worshipped dragons, so the dragon was seen to represent their own god. This makes me believe even more than there is something significance deep under Minrathous.

I would love to play a DA set in Tevinter, either as a Mage Lord or slave or both. It would be nice if they brought back Origin chapters. You could be a shunned human Mage Lord or an escaped Elven slave.

That quote always bugged me, and I'm pretty sure it was a typo and was supposed to be "1,000". As you point out, humans aren't even supposed to go back that far.
On another note, I am willing to bet Maevaris is a companion in DA4. She's an accomplished mage and a character that seems to be liked by the devs. I hope so 'cuz she'd be awesome. Check out the comic series if you haven't seen it.

^ The problem is the same as would exist with Dorian, even more so with Maevaris. She is an established magsiter, more established than Dorian. She is doing ongoing work as a magister, and even more now that they are running the Lucerni. It's not the same as with Vivienne. Even though she was the First Enchanter of her Circle, the Circles, and the Circle system, were thrown into confusion during the mage/templar conflict, so it can be argued that Vivienne was in a better place to do what she pleased and volunteer for the Inquisition.
If the devs want her as a follower, then she will be one and they'll come up with something. On the face of it, however, I just don't see it as likely.

I agree that if they start the PC at low levels of experience then at the very least they would have to delay introducing Maevaris as a companion until later in the game. I know that Solas, Vivienne and Dorian should all have been far more experienced than they were when we first meet them but there were excuses that could be offered for each of them: Solas still recovering from his multi-millennia slumber; Vivienne out of practice through being at Court and Dorian having been living as a homeless drifter for the better part of two years (according to WoT2). Whereas Maevaris has been living in the thick of things, repelling enemies and holding her own in the Magisterium, so has been both an active mage using her skills and accustomed to being in control of things. It is rather hard seeing her as willing to trail around after our low level PC. I think it more likely that she will be a contact that we interact with, possibly an advisor or mentor of some sort, just not as an actual companion.

I think, given her status, it's more likely that Mae will be an important NPC... but considering she took off to go sort stuff out with Varric and Isabela and co., it's not outside the realm of possibility for her to be a companion.

Mae does seem to be very strongly tied to Qarinus. In the comic she ends up in Ath Velanis because Titus kidnaps her; otherwise she would have still been back in Qarinus. In DAI her request comes to us labelled "Our friend in Qarinus" but then that also explains Dorian's close association with her, considering that is his ancestral home. Still, like the Pavus family and other Altus, I dare say she has several homes dotted around Tevinter. She must have had spent a fair bit of time in Minrathous to have maintained the close associations that her family had always enjoyed with the Ambassadoria, so it wouldn't be a surprise to meet her in either location.

All things considered, I still think Maevaris is more likely to be our Human Mage Companion. Having two white, female human mages from Tevinter would be redundant, their personalities and politics not withstanding. Not to mention having two human Tevinter mages would take a spot from a potential Rivani Seer, an Avar Shaman, an Ancient Elf, a Tal-Vashoth Saarebas, or a Titan touched Dwarf. That said, I no longer think Calpernia would be a bad choice per say, as I find her passion for revolution and desperation for purpose interesting story paths. In a lot of ways she reminds me of Yuthura Ban from Knights of the Old Repubic. I'm convinced Yuthura was initially intended to be a Companion and her personal quest take place on Sleheyron, but both were cut for time. I wonder if Dorian's greying hair just shading, or did the artist want him to appear older?

I wonder if Dorian's greying hair just shading, or did the artist want him to appear older? Older. It's a similar look to one of the post-Trespasser epilogue slides where he's shown as older. I believe that pendant is supposed to be the sending crystal in a locket. All things considered, I still think Maevaris is more likely to be our Human Mage Companion. But because of her status as a magister and leader of the Lucerni group, it doesn't seem like she would be in a position to be a follower, just as Dorian is no longer in a position to be a follower. Calpernia is more free in that regard. Also, DAI and her inclusion in the Magekiller comic seemed to be hyping her a bit. The only thing I find unfortunate about her possible inclusion at all is that players that have chosen the mage path have no experience with her character from DAI. On that path, the only time you even learn of her existence or her name is on a note in the Western Approach. That's the ONLY reference mage path players get in the whole game.
