Do you think there are even any (out) gay men in the studio? How hard is it, if you're a clueless straight guy and you've been called out on it, as MEA team have, to pull over the gay guy and say, can you check out this scene? Or look over this dialogue? What do you think? It certainly shouldn't be hard. They should have gotten the opinions of at least a few gay guys, since everyone has differing opinions. It's obvious they didn't though, that or anyone they did ask was too afraid to say anything other than "This is great! Gay guys are going to be so happy with their options!".

That would require BW (or the ME team anyway) to care about the m/m options, and as we saw from MEA, they obviously don't.

Or maybe they had this blind ignorance where they actually thought they understood gay guys, but totally didn't, and they didn't think they needed to go to them for anything. :srs:

If the studio environment is as bro-y as it's rumored to be, probably not. There's probably not many women either. :/
I had an interview at a major studio that's notoriously filled with bro-culture, and even from the interview there's this air of hostility that did not make me want to work there in any way, shape, or form and I can't even imagine trying to work and actually be productive in that kind of environment.

What do you think? Idk, after gaider left.. I dont know whether Weekes himself is bi, but I think his wife is. But.. You know after what they brought here.. I felt a sense of unease with the gay M/M relationships, so.. I dont know whether I would want to be out in a studio where you can feel that some people find you icky and would prefer to ignore ya.. I mean.. I dont care whether people know for me but ..usually most people read me as woman and W/W is still more palatable for the dudes it seems.. I mean they cry when charas are gay because that means their hetero weiner isnt the center of the whole word, haily grail and master sword in one.. (please make Dunn gay.. ) ...I think i wrote about the first person i fell in love with (ah, unrequited love, breaker of hearts.. Well Dunn looks a bit like her- but that girl had longer hair and darker skin.. So.. please. BIOWARE MAKE DUNN GAY.. ..the I can get over my first broken heart.. to bring levity into it.. Oh and I drew evfra. Posted him in his original thread but hey, I'm an attentionwh*.. and I as a bit of an ass.. also see: Made him gay

Actually, as a writer, and I can say this with authority, if you're going to write about an experience that isn't your own, the least you can do is do your research and consult with people who have actually lived through what you want to write about.

And I'm sure they did do research or at the very least relied on their past experiences, but you don't need your work checked over by others to make sure it passes muster. But I think this comes down to differences on writing style

If you are going to write a GAY story and you are not gay, sure, yes, you need insight from people who are. But I think we've been very clear that we do not want GAY stories, we want stories where sexuality doesn't define their character or their story. If you are just writing a character who happens to be gay, then what kind of secret fucking knowledge that we allegedly have do you need????? Huh????
I know what you are saying with the whole '' you need feedback from LGBT people '' but I'm not a fucking mystery. Just have a cool male character who loves fucking dude ass wow.

Because not all gay people will have the same reaction to the same content? you're right I'm sure there are gay people there who think having hardly any content is actually, Good, and they too pushed the big red button that said POLISH CORA SEX SCENE Actually if they have any gay employees that weren't directly involved with romances at every step of the way then odds are that they didn't even know that m/m got less content than everybody else. The reality of game development is that you generally only have the time to worry about what your specific job is and those around you that directly affect what your specific job is. If you're writing gameplay systems code then you have your own deadlines to worry about rather than watching all the romance content to know if it's satisfactory or not. Which if somebody pulls you over and says "Hey can you take a look at this scene between Scott and Reyes?" then most people don't mind taking a few minutes to watch it and throw out a few opinions but they won't know the entirety of the romance content. They'll be looking at one cutscene that lasts a few minutes and won't actually know how much content it has compared to how much Cora and Peebee get. It's also since been noted that the reason why Cora's sex scene is so well animated is because the person who animated it is a former Naughty Dog animator(a studio that does a lot of custom hand crafted animations). It has more to do with him being an extremely talented individual than it does with them deciding to spend a ton of resources polishing it. This is the sort of thing that's on management to look at and go "This area of the game needs more work done on it because it's not up to par with everything else".

But I think this comes down to differences on writing style It's not though. Bioware writers work on a team. Their writing process is already collaborative. Bringing someone in with specific lived experiences to provide feedback on an m/m romance isn't substantially different than having someone proofread for grammar, plot holes, or continuity. If it's not done by the writers, it should be done by the editors since it's their job to check over a writer's work "to make sure it passes muster". Bioware's editors should be even more involved than a typical print editor, since they are essentially editing a commodity rather than an individual writer's vision.

Leaving aside the issue of whether characters are well written (a subjective assessment), their black hole lenses objects IN FRONT of it! When they first show the Hyperion approaching Andromeda, they're still LIGHT YEARS away from it. That's not subjective, that's Physics. If they didn't even research the science bits, why are you SURE they researched the other stuff?

This is the sort of thing that's on management to look at and go "This area of the game needs more work done on it because it's not up to par with everything else". Well, but there comes in the part we can't know about. Did they put the Naughty Dog animator on Cora by accident and Coramancers just got lucky, or did they put their most talented animator on the romance that they had decided was the most important romance on purpose? Because he is also a (human) resource in the game-making process that is probably allocated with some thought behind it. I do agree that ME:A has a lot of problems that can be squarely blamed on just bad management because I have been in projects at work that, in the end, looked a little bit like ME:A (on a much smaller scale, but with the same issues of weaknesses in just about every area committed by sub-teams that I knew could do much better) and they do usually come about thanks to confused and/or incompetent leadership. You're right it's very likely most individual employees may not even have had the oversight of the project to really know what problems might be happening. Considering the state of the game at release, they probably were busy enough trying to get their own stuff in line by the time the deadline rushed towards them. I'm still somewhat leery that Halon's Razor applies here, though ("Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity."). The ME series has historically had its problems with the depiction of especially gay/bisexual males. It's disheartening but I feel like management may have looked at this and gone "this area of the game is not up to par with everything else and that's okay."
