I've been following this thread for quite some time, saw all the happiness and sadness when informations started to pop up and I must say that I completly don't get this marketing. This is ridiculous, MEA is a mess, not only with romances which are a huge part of BioWare games. I thought that DAI had poor romance choices (I finally end up with Dorian), but MEA seems even worse. If Jaal is bi and Vetra straight (or vice versa), I'll be dissapointed. For now the only character I'm interested in is Reyes, and If I'm right he's just a fling and breaks up with you? Or am I wrong? That's just sad. |

Like I am 100% certain Jaal is straight... but we have been strung along and fucking lied to.
I can honestly take Jaal being straight. I'd be salty, sure, cause this is a massive step back for BioWare. But for all the teasing and false hope... that is just out of order.

I'm taking this as pretty hard confirmation that Jaal is hetero. I would advise against stringing out any more hopes he's bi and just either trying to get into another character, or don't buy the game/wait until it's cheap, unless you get pleasantly surprised with news otherwise. Not worth putting yourself through stress for hours and hours more with no certainty when we'll get any other form of confirmation. It's probably over. There's being optimistic and there's the high likeliness of denial.

I think it's because asari, certainly in the original trilogy, were clearly developed with straight men in mind. They provided lesbian representation almost as a side-effect. That's not to diminish the joy lesbians and bi women get from having a woman to romance - not at all. Nor is it to suggest that women shouldn't find those scenes enjoyable. But rather, it's to put their development into context. And I don't blame anyone for their saltiness when we have Mac (I think) saying stuff like, "but who'd want to push her off huehuehue" - perpetuating the idea that bisexual asari are titillating for men. It wasn't a lesbian or bi female dev saying that. So, it's not about f/f content being a problem, but rather m/m content not being treated the same being the problem. I don't think any of us can envisage a situation where an all-male species of hot exotic space dudes would have been created in the place of the asari. That's the problem. Not that there is f/f content. But that there is an imbalance. That there's not enough m/m content, I'll accept. But I'll certainly never accept that there's too much f/f content. And no one has said that. No one wants to take away f/f options. No one has argued for that. The argument is that there should be equality for everyone. Everyone. It's about raising the standard, not dropping one that is already there. |
