I have actually been playing ME2 lately (been a while) and enjoying just how awesome Thane is... Such a waste...

I'm pretty sure he's got the best character intro in the trilogy. He takes out 4, no 5? people in about 2 seconds. The Archangel-is-Garrus reveal is right up there too.

It should probably be wrong that him killing people is so sexy, right?

The Garrus romance gets a ton better in ME3. If you can get past the inter-species awkwardness of the start of it in ME2, it's so worth it. I love the Thane romance. I get through it by ignoring what happens in ME3 completely, and falalaing my way into headcanon and fanfic land. It's happy here. They really screwed Thanemancers over in ME3. Haha, I probably will try again. It just seemed really out of character for my Shepard, so I was caught by surprise. Like a mother hearing her adult child say a curse word for the first time. She shouldn't be thinking those thoughts, she's a professional! Professional I tell you! Do you think they screwed over the romance in regards to content, or just that he dies no matter what? I'm not the biggest fan of Garrus' romance, but it's not bad. Thane's, though, I still really like even with the inevitable -- and even then it still has good content in 3. Even if it hurts.I was speaking of his romance as a whole when I called it tragic. I've never played the games before, but I am incredibly spoiled as to what happens and... well, I can't imagine playing through a romance that ends like that, and doing it unspoiled for the first time. It's too sad. The closest thing I've ever played through was Alistair sacrificing himself to kill the Arch demon (a sacrifice my Warden expected to make). I was going to romance Garrus on suggestion, but the first "flirt" is so forward and not like the professional Shepard I had been playing as. I couldn't pick it >.< I'm weak. Maybe I'll load a save after watching some other Shepard do it on YouTube. Or not. Single is fun too! And it wasn't Liara I ended up romancing in the first one, it was Kaidan (definitely accidentally though. I didn't get much from the romance and would have been fine being single). Liara I just rejected... and felt bad about doing so, even though I couldn't recall ever flirting with her or signalling that I'm interested in a romantic relationship. Well, Liara is THE ninjamancer of Mass Effect 1 -- as in you can tell her no but it might not take, especially if you're trying to be single. And just FYI paragon/top speech options are often the "flirts" so that's probably how you started with Thane. Although it should be obvious, because Shep expresses wanting more than friendship to initiate the romance path. Yeah, I heard people discuss it before and thought it must be a little exaggerated-- nope! It came across as a teenager becoming infatuated with an adult and them having to crush all her hopes and dreams in blunt honesty. No, Liara, when I said "it was nice talking to you" I did not mean "let's have babies and get tattoos with each other's names on our arms!" Haha, yeah, avoided those, or at least the really obvious ones like "I want you Thane." which is just an awful choice to have above "You should focus on your son." I have actually been playing ME2 lately (been a while) and enjoying just how awesome Thane is... Such a waste... He is awesome! Sadly the Mass Effect crew is huge, so I don't take him out much as I try to cycle fairly throughout my companions... I mean squadmates. DA has ruined my vocabulary. When I've resorted to wiki I've ended up typing quest instead of mission... multiple times. I'm pretty sure he's got the best character intro in the trilogy. He takes out 4, no 5? people in about 2 seconds. The Archangel-is-Garrus reveal is right up there too. Unfortunately I was spoiled about the Garrus is Archangel reveal, so that didn't do that much for me. Although as he was the first of my original squad that I came across it was pretty exciting to see him. So, I think I'd agree with your Thane as the best entrance, but if we're going by kills, I think Jack probably took that cake. I also liked Mordin's because knowing that he was written by the same person who wrote Solas, I had some preconceived ideas about him... that were kindly tossed out the window the moment he started ranting. Plus, curing Garrus of the plague netted him some win points... not that I'd have taken Garrus into a plague area when he could catch the sickness. That would be irresponsible. It should probably be wrong that him killing people is so sexy, right? I like the way he just disappears It should probably be wrong that him killing people is so sexy, right?
But they were the bad guys so it's ok.
And he didn't do the killing, Melbella, his body did.

thane's romance is surprisingly devoid of angst for the amount of plot points it hits that gotta be angst. And the conclusion, if you chose transcendence ending and take his prayer and letter into account is rather happy.

Do you think they screwed over the romance in regards to content, or just that he dies no matter what? Well, Thane dying is also part of a larger problem. In general the romances in Mass Effect were not... even, I'll say that. Don't know how spoilered you are, but, yeah... One of the reasons I like Dragon Age's flirt system better: they don't remove regular speech options to insert flirts. When playing as a male Shep, who cannot flirt with Thane, you get a better, friendlier speech option other than "Focus on your son." Like... femShep can only flirt or tell him to stick to his own business. It's like that with all the LIs though, since you can't be "nice" without flirting. Fortunately Andromeda is supposed to have improved character relationships. ( I don't know specifics, because I'm avoiding spoilers. ) The ME2 crew is large, and can take some time to find the right combinations. Thane is actually one of my regularly used squadmates, when playing as my favored class. I even use him in the End Game parts. Do you also have Zaeed and Kasumi? They're dlc, so can be missed.

I've spent a lot of time lurking on Mass Effect discussions, so I'm pretty spoilered. I know Thane and especially Jacob got a lot of vocal input. Yeah, I'm not a huge fan of the Mass Effect flirt system. Even Origins was better, in my opinion. I'm curious as to what make Shepard's dialogue choices were. Do you remember them? Unfortunately I don't have any DLC. I'm playing the trilogy on my Xbox One and the DLC (if I'm not horribly mistaken) is not yet backwards compatible.

Unfortunately I don't have any DLC. I'm playing the trilogy on my Xbox One and the DLC (if I'm not horribly mistaken) is not yet backwards compatible. Yeah, it was/is a mess. Thane was partially amended with the Citadel dlc which kind of allows Shep to still be "with" him if not in a relationship with anyone else. Jacob... no. In this case with Thane (where femShep can either flirt or say "Focus on your son"), mShep can tell him that he's part of the crew and more interaction from him would be welcomed since he tends to keep a distance -- you know, to be more like friends. Don't know why they thought switching friend dialogues with flirts for all possible LIs even when not pursuing them would be a good idea, but there it is. As it's been quite a while since I last played I don't remember all the other non-flirts atm. All the dlc are available, and Zaeed is free through the Cerberus Network along with the Normandy Crash site and a few other little things. Kasumi does have a DA reference in her loyalty mission.

I have just recruited thane on my male Shepard, so looking forward to seeing friend options. Even though I am playing a renegade, And a human supremacist, I can't imagine not seeing this friendship. It will be harder next playthrough, because I'd like to see a relationship with Garrus. I might actually skip recruiting Thane to keep it simpler.

I still can't get over Thane, he was so interesting character and and his romance on ME2 was awesome. And he had always very interesting conversations. Then he dies and no one even comments about it :c (and srsly my Shep would have pushed her sniper rifle up tp Kai Lengs ass for even touching him )Luckily ThaneMod exists, I couldn't bear to play ME3 again with him dying My heart breaks every time I have to watch his death scene. I hope drells return in Andromeda, it would be cool to learn more about them.

They could have at least had a couple squad mates make mention of it.

In the base game it's like nobody cares, and it felt so shitty the first time. Wouldn't be surprised if they added his content to the Citadel to make-up for it. At the same time though, Mordin/Legion only got a little mention after their deaths, but that's still more than Thane got. Edit: uh, I think that sounded snippy? Not my intent, sorry.

Yeah, what they added for Citadel WAS a nice touch. As you said though, base game had nothing. The Citadel dlc is one of the reasons I still play ME3, since it's a lighthearted spot in the middle of the doom & gloom.

I do not have Citadel DLC. My game only has free ME2 DLCs. What I get with Thane in me3 is pretty satisfying for me.
I have the chance to visit with him in the hospital, long and gorgeously animated death scene, then Thane saying a prayer for the PC, a wonderful long post-mortem letter that promises the pc that he waits for her on another shore, the chance to shoot Kai Leng after a long emotional chase with the words: For Thane, and Thane's being the first appearance in the Epilogue sequence, as her consciousness gets integrated into the resolution of the equation of the soul. I thought it was awesome and just right for me.
Not that I would say no to more Thane content. But my ending won't be as perfect if Thane lived. Honestly, I feel that a lot of the third game was about my Shepard's love story. Or I made it so.

Luckily, in mass effect, it is perfectly viable to get all the Renegade points you wish while still being super nice and Paragon with all companions.
