I remember back to February when I was resentful that I had to choose between the space cockroach (garrus) and the lizard man. it makes me laugh at myself now. How hard Thane marked me.

phorayI haven't. When I came to terms with ME3 ending I decided to headcanon the whole thing... more or less, I didn't change the events of ME3 but how my Shepard reacts to the whole thing, something the game will never give me. I'm happy with what I came up, it makes sense to me that after all she went through in her life ( even before ME1 ), she just reunites with Thane in the afterlife after destroying the reapers. It was time for her to rest.

It was time for her to rest. Yes- that sort of ending is what I was shooting for after his death. I RPed her as tired of fighting this war and wanting to return back to the death she'd had. But then I couldn't do destroy, and kill all the geth and the Organic/ Synthethic alliance she'd sacrificed much for. So, she went control. which, in my world of space magic, uploaded her soul. So, she'll never be reunited with Thane in the afterlife cuz she won't have one. So, my head cannon post game has had to be creative.

Yeah, that part of the destroy ending is really nasty...unless you embrance the Indoctrination theory, which I did.

I can't believe I didn't realise until recently that Thane's voice actor was also Kellogg in Fallout 4. How did I not hear it before?

Kellogg also had the dead-wife-whose-killers-he-hunted-down thing going on. It felt odd hearing Keythe say those lines again, and I had instant Thane flashbacks.

I recently romanced Jaal and definitely missed the subtlety and depth of Thane.

Did anyone watch the movie, "Shape of Water" and get reminded of Thane? Pretty much the reason I wanted to see it in the first place!

I love Thane. He was my first ME romance. Now that I've recently played Fallout 4 though, I will never look at him the same way again.

I've played a lot of Bioware games- I'd even say I've played the majority of them. I've liked a lot of the romance options. I've loved a lot of the romance options. But I LOVED Thane. I really, really, truly adored him. I loved his character, his manner of speaking, his design, his interactions with Shepard, everything about him was wonderful. I never really got over the way they "disposed" of Thane. I felt, and still feel, that it was so disrespectful to the character. To create a being who was so flawed but so good and so many people loved him, only to get rid of him in such a cheap way? It was insulting to me as a player. I think that's part of the reason I've never been able to find an LI who can compare to him, because I sort of have him up on this pedestal of "What If." What if he had been treated fairly, what if his death (if he had to die) had been done reverently and with the proper emotion exhibited from a romanced Shepard, what if he had been cured, what if he had gotten a happy ending, or at least a satisfying ending? But of course, we'll never get that closure, so it's just sort of like this weird, unfulfilled thing. I mean, even with Iron Bull if he betrays you for the Qun, there's a feeling "Okay, this is the result of my choices and I made a bad one." But it was still closure of a kind, it had an ending that you controlled. Thane didn't even really get that, he was just DEAD, period. And it wasn't just Thane that made me feel that way, all of ME3 made me feel that way. There were so many avenues, so many choices that had been made to that point, so much potential that was just wasted. Mass Effect was my first "adult" game- that is I got it right when I went to college, and I got it just for me whereas before I'd have to share with my siblings- and it got me so emotionally wrapped up in that universe that if I was forced to play only one game series for the rest of my life, I would have chosen Mass Effect. And then they threw me down headfirst into the ground with ME3, and I just felt betrayed, that they had made me love that series so much and had turned it into what I saw as so much garbage. And they did the same thing to Thane, and I've never been able to play the series since then.

What really rubbed salt in the wounds was having other fans say, "What did you expect? He was dying." Along with their dislike of the possibility of him living because they felt it'd cheapen his death. But Mass Effect is an RPG game. They emphasized choices. If players can accept that Mordin can live in another player's game, there was no reason Thane couldn't. It's a shame the developers themselves admitted they dropped the ball on him. He could have rivaled Kaidan and Garrus on popularity had he been given a more satisfying closure.

Jerzy Dominik, the Polish VA for Thane, passed away the day before yesterday at the age of 63. He was one of the most characteristic voices of Polish dubbing. Non-public sources say that he died from a stroke between recording sessions. RIP.

Since this is about Thane I have a question. What was the point (or meaning) of the email Shepard receives in ME2 (it was kind of a poem) that seemed to be hinting at a cure for Thane and his disease? Or that’s how I took it at first read.
