3 things -varric tells them to stay away from part of city. She breaks that day 1? The knight she is with is not the "knight errant". Knight errant involves romance and deeds done in the course of story are for romance. I have a strange feeling we might be getting introduced to future companions based on comics? Who is the statue with the sword raised high with flames? Quizzy?Hawke (the Champion of Kirkwall – under his/her feet the Arishok's head). Good catch!!! Hmmm now was my Hawke a Mage who had the sword staff or a champion warrior with the sword with a flaming blade? :/ Looking forward to this. Varric is cool and I hope there's a little more dwarven Lore is given.

Probably a mage not really good ideal... or this is just a symbol.

I think the statue is symbolic and also indicative of how the real person tends to get lost in the legend. So Hawke has morphed into a semi-Andraste warrior type with the glowing sword of justice in their hand. Which is particularly ironic when you think of what justice was really responsible for. Anyway that's my take on it. The statue was constructed while Meredith and Elthina were still in charge of the city, so it makes sense really that the statue would more closely resemble a Templar/Andraste in appearance rather than the real Hawke, particularly if they were a mage. No doubt Elthina spun the story at the time that the Maker/Andraste were really on Hawke's side and that is why they triumphed over the godless Qun.

No matter how things finished out in Inquisition, I imagine the mage/templar conflict is no longer an issue in Kirkwall. There probably aren't any Circle mages or templars even left in the city; the mages either cleared out or were killed, and many of the templars likely would have been converted into Red Templars.

Yeah, I think Kirkwall should be doing OK. The city definitely went through a chaotic period following the destruction of the Chantry, which might have resulted in the occupation of Kirkwall if you spared Anders. But assuming you killed Anders like I did, Sebastian would have provided aid to the city instead.
So the Blight is over, the refugee crisis is likely not an issue anymore, the qunari are gone, the mage-templar conflict is finished and even Corypheus is dead. Depending on how active your Hawke was, many of the more powerful demons in the area have also been destroyed. The Veil is thin, but that's a problem that will never really go away.

The Veil is thin, but that's a problem that will never really go away, so Kirkwall should be on the rebound. Ofc, not! I sent Cullen to aid Aveline (his ex-cronies caused the whole thing). Much better than killing Anders. He's a hero, cleaned the city from the Templars. Aveline really hated them. With Varric? Kirkwall will be a thriving commercial center.

I believe canon supports a Hawke that sided mages considering Hawke's stint as Viscount was so badly fumbled in DAI indicating they threw a line in at the end for that "oh yeah" possibility

That was my first thought as well. Maybe a female elf LI for male elf protagonists, since we haven't had one of those? Ain't too worried about dwarves yet. There's Harding, and there's a heavy dwarf presence in Tevinter, so I think our chances are better than ever.

First female elf that a male elf can romance. In DAO the choice for a male elf was either human (if straight) or Zevran (if gay). In DAI the only option was human (if straight) or Dorian/Iron Bull (if gay). So no elf option at all. I realise the same held true for dwarves, both male and female, unless you count the chaste flirtation with Harding as a romance.
To be honest, it didn't bother me that much in the end in DAI because if a male elf had been straight and only interested in elves, chances were he'd already have a partner back with the clan because the pressure would be there to marry young and start a family to keep numbers up. So my rebellious straight elf mage romanced Cassandra and my gay hunter romanced Dorian.
I'm hoping that we still get to play different races in the next game but I'm pretty relaxed about what races we can romance. A cute dwarf like Harding would be nice but if this new elf character does turn out to be any good and did turn up in DA4 I'd probably be interested.

The Vhenadahl plastered to the side of her face is real subtle. Gee, could she be a city elf?

I vote for them to go look for Arlathan so they can pull a Black Fox on us. I went with Snarkin' to make it a Batman and Robin reference, but I'm thinking that Not-Cassandra might work better, because her views on Nevarra's traditions are a rather tired recycling of Cassandra's own opinions. Sorry, do I sound bitter? I might be a touch bitter.
