Good game so far (just playing it now) but extremely hard at times in my mind. After a lot of experimentation, I've found that it really depends on your build. Some builds will allow you to sleepwalk through through the toughest fights (eg. Heavy Armor/Heavy Attack/Deep Alchemy/Oil synergy build). Depends on the style you enjoy too... I basically felt on that 1st boss that i simply did not at all have the level or equipment necessary. It would take ages of me hitting him with my attacks to take dome health and he would two or 3 shot me. not to mention they pull the old bioware trick of half way through the fight him going invulnerable and you having to face some mooks while he totally heals himself.

Playing through Hearts of Stone for the first time really makes me wish Shani had been a part of the cast during the main story and a full romance option alongside Yen and Triss. Not really sure how and where you'd fit her into the grand scheme of things with the story though since she's so normal

Yeah, if you're under-leveled and under-geared, some bosses can be... pretty unforgiving. I've been smacked down more than once in the early going for trying to punch above my weight class. That's when you really have to focus on striking their weaknesses, using the right blade oil (if you have it) and tossing a lot grenades (freeze/strong attack them if you can). And don't forget Quen!

Cool I was waiting for someone to start a witcher 3 thread. I really wish they would add something new though (anything at all) because I would really like another excuse to play through this game again. I just can't let go. I am so livid with HOS. HOW do you KILL the FROG??? I beat the main game, am leveled up, have the latest everything and he still stomps me into a puddle! I feel your pain, I never had so much trouble with any boss in this game until the frog prince and he was the only one where I looked up videos to beat him. I rated him as the hardest one for me until I came across a certain someone in blood and wine.

Don't even get me started on Blood and Wine lol I tried the "demo" of it where you are already at the acceptable level and got beat to death by a naked chick right at the start! I am going to have to come up with some strategies.

I only remember one particular boss fight towards the end of the main game where there was a rather steep difficulty spike (or at least was when I last played that part), but other than that there's usually some fairly simple though sometimes quite specific tricks you need for certain foes. Even with well over 200 hours in total clocked in I still sometimes get embarrassingly surprised by big packs of drowners or wolves who get way too many free critical hits thanks to being able to surround me if I do a poor job of dodging or using signs for crowd control. The flurry attack that wraiths do is also one of those things that I should know better than to get hit by, but still manage to screw up every now and then especially when there's several of them at once. Though by far the deadliest foes in the entire game are harpies and their variations if and when they show up during some platforming section. Suddenly you're combat rolling off a cliff instead of making an easy jump to a ledge. The bolded part is the problem for me. I sense a real dark souls kind of theme here where you beat your head against the wall 20 times before you figure put the easy way to win the battle. The 1st minor boss fight I just go my clock cleaned repeatedly even when I turned it the very lowest level which was idiotic. Now this is not necessarily the fault of the game as it is a LTP issue me as I am these days an impatient player not like when I was in my gaming prime. How often to you use the Quen sign? Its basically tech armour. I find it rather OP.

Well, the game is designed so that you should not engage anything that is about 10 levels higher than you. Equipment is not that important but enemies get huge damage resistance if you are underleveled. Otherwise, I find it generally too easy. However, to be confortable on Death March, you have to collect at least some loot, do most of side quests, and craft some armor. And you have to have a reasonable weapon. Focused builds essentially trivialize combat. You can focus on heavy armor and power attack, signs and fast attack, and alchemy and signs or alchemy and fast attack. As I cannot parry normally in this game and cannot counter due to clumsy interface, I played first time alchemy build and NG+ as signs build. Both were easy enough. If I can do it, monkey can do it. For major boss encounters, it pays to do side quests, contracts and treasure hunts to level up a bit. And yes, you must dodge/roll. And it is a good idea to visit most of question marks. Don't bother with the ones in Skellige in the sea, it is mostly pointless loot just to generate some gold for lazy people who want to craft all 6 witcher sets at grandmaster level and legendary grandmaster level. Also, I presume, it is easier to parry/counter on consoles. Anyhow, if you don't like your build, you can always drink a respec potion. Also, a weapon that you can acquire in Blood and Wine will greatly speed up your NG+. Just don't forget to make some rune slots before starting NG+. Still need to dodge and roll though. Can be a bit intense sometimes.

My greatest foe in TW3 was the loading screen. God damn you! But also {spoiler}. Dettlaff Fuck those bats!!! The hardest part is to actually turn to look at him when he launches the bats. Once you do that, it becomes quite easy as it is clear when to roll to the side. Or you can just simply run but cannot jump-dodge. First three or four time, I was also puzzled why I die. And chort decoction actually is the best way to deal with this and any other boss fight.

I'm currently playing a new game plus on Death March mode.
A few things that are making it easy.
1) when fighting monsters, regardless of the level, I use dodge 2) when fighting witch hunters, bandits etc, I parry 3) use quen. A lot. I have it setup, that when activated, I gain vitality when hit
I'm currently at level 56 using enhanced Griffin armor and weapons.

Wait, where's this? Sounds awesome. In Blood and Wine, a quest called Equine Phantoms Nice. I'm starting B&W soon-ish. Need to finish it before Mankind Divided is released so I can uninstall TW3 to clear some much needed hard drive space.

Have fun, BTW, B&W has 3 distinct main endings and 4 differences in the ending depending on your choices in the main game.

Yaaay So, my previous pc died on me so I lost all my save files AND ng+ files too. So I replayed TW3 (death march) finished and I'm currently on Hearts of Stone and after that I will start Blood & Wine, the only one I haven't played yet, actually I only played the first hour. It looks like a game within the game. So awesome.
Right now my game is on hold because I'm replaying the ME trilogy

After a lot of experimentation, I've found that it really depends on your build. Some builds will allow you to sleepwalk through through the toughest fights (eg. You're underleveled for him, same thing happened to me. I reloaded an old save, did some side quests and then came back. It seems you can't take on red skull enemies without the fight turning into a slog because of the damage resistance they have. This was a big change from TW2, where you could take on anything with the right build.

Yeah, if its a case of being under-leveled there is a option in the settings with patch 1.2 to turn on level scaling. If that would be more your style.

I dunno the hardest fight for me was Velen/Baron spoilers Helping the Baron with his kid monster thing. Those wraiths at level five or six on Deathmarch were no joke. It took me maybe 20 or 25 attempts until I finally beat it. That second wave on the second part was brutal. I die in two hits and six wraiths spawn.
