I think they should have done the leveling system better and adjust it based on location, wich would have made the progression feel more natural. For example, make the Velen portion of the map be capped with enemies from level 1 to 15. Then the Novigrad and northern part of the map have enemies from 15-25. Then Skellige could have enemies from 25 to above. That way I would be less likely to be instantly killed by an archer 10 levels above of me because I was unlucky enough to stumble in the wrong bandit camp. Yup. Plus, it feels weird to go back to Velen for some level 20 witcher contract or treasure hunt that I wanted to do, when I'm supposed to be headed to Skellige to find my daughter who might be in mortal danger. Like...sure, Ciri might be in dire straits on the other side of the continent, but I can't possibly ignore these random villagers who want me to clear their barn of some critters.

So, I’m trying to decide between the Witcher and Empress endings for Ciri. Any perspectives? I don’t really have strong feelings either way tbh. Between the two, I prefer Ciri as a witcher ending. It's is what Ciri wanted to be and she is with Geralt. But I like the sad ending the best and do that one most of the time. How could you? I couldn't do it. I watched it on YT and... I cant. The cinematic was too good and too real, you could almost feel Geralt's pain. I like the Empress ending. Im not concerned about "daddy" Emhyr because Ciri is now and adult, witcher trained and "woke" ( magic-wise), so he can't do sht to Ciri anymore. Though, she's not trained to rule, and that's the only thing I'm concerned a bit.

Not as weird as when you decide to ignore an imminent danger because you have to play gwent with a random peasant in order to steal his cards.

Meh. There is nothing more satisfying then tricking an oponent in passing the round during a gwent match and wrecking him with all your high end cards.

A question, is there any reason I should do the expansions before finishing the main game? Any story references or added ending slides I could miss?

A question, is there any reason I should do the expansions before finishing the main game? Any story references or added ending slides I could miss? If you complete the hearts of stone DLC before finding Ciri, you get an very unique dialogue option depending on the final choice you make. But that's it. The blood and wine expansion is meant to be post endgame.

FYI I appreciate the answers people But I should say that I’ve already completed the main story and Hearts of Stone at this point. I’ve just arrived in Toussaint for Blood and Wine. Also went with the Empress ending for Ciri, the bittersweet tone seems right to me.

Also went with the Empress ending for Ciri, the bittersweet tone seems right to me. That was the right order for me. Heart of Stone gives you some nice toys via the Ofieri merchant, which helps you deal with the tougher enemies in Toussaint. Blood and Wine is a proper send off for the series and a good way to end things.

This might be an unpopular opinion, but I’m kind of starting to think that the Witcher game’s are a tad bit...overrated? I mean, I get the appeal with the concept and I’m sure the characters are cool, but what’s in Witcher 3 that made it so groundbreaking and best RPG ever? A lot of the stuff in that game are easily found in other open world games, there’s barely any “role-playing” in this RPG, and personally, I find the combat and traversal done better in other games.

The Witcher 3's problems are in it's bare bones combat, enemy variety, inferior main quest in terms of it's intricacy, and consistency in comparison to it's predecessor, and the devs not knowing what to do with half of Skellige beyond adding 50+ POIs across the ocean. On the flipside it's appeal is in it's combination of art direction, graphics, cinematics, animations, characters, world building and quest variety, versus what it's peers had to offer at the time. Then there's the timing of it's release after a weak year for gaming, 2014.
I prefer TW2, but Val Royeaux vs Novigrad sums up TW3's appeal to me.

Sure, TW3 has no really new content, nothing that you can't see in other games. But it reunites everything that is actually good in those games and make it even better.
It's already rare to find an RPG with no fetch quests and where the choices you make on quests actually matter. Now you put great art direction, great story, great characters, great side missions, and you got a goty.

Like i said before just look at the level of detail that's placed into a city like Novigrad. It's combination of scope, architecture , color palette, npc ai and quests.

A lot of the stuff in that game are easily found in other open world games, there’s barely any “role-playing” in this RPG, and personally, I find the combat and traversal done better in other games. Oh it's easily overrated. It's one thing for people to like it but it's a very meh RPG like any other modern RPG is today so I find it funny to see it get called the best and such, even more when some call it a standard to follow. I don't want franchises I like to turn to a pre defined restricted nature like TW series 🤷. That very reason is why I'll always take elder scrolls or dragon age over any Witcher game period, I prefer player freedom over playing something that you can only control so much. The series really doesn't do anything new, but it's quality in a few aspects is pretty good such as a narrative and it's Visuals. It's combat is pretty clunky, it has fetch quests just like every other open world game (speaking of open world, it's yet another that has a lot of emptiness to it, the cities are about the only interesting places for me) and it's pretty restricted in choices outside of dialogue.

Just started reading Baptism of Fire and, despite being a pain in Geralt's backside in the previous book, I'm really liking Dijkstra. I might actually have to side with him in the political scheme next time I play W3, as well as make sure I find his missing treasure. I failed to do that in my first PT, and also sided with Roche in their little squabble post-Radovid. From what I read on the endings, things are a bit better for Redania and a bit worse for Nilfgaard, if Dijkstra wins that particular struggle.
The question is, do I need both Dijsktra and Roche alive to get the Full Crew achievement? If so, that puts a rather large dent in my plan.....
