It does switch up, and I try to switch it up, but overall: Vivienne, Varric/Sera, Iron Bull. Also love Cass and Vivienne together especially when Cass freaks out about something. And Viv in the Fade.."At yoouurr age?" Viv: "Not. A. Word."

I will spec Sera to be either range or dw depending on what I'm playing. Not the others, though. For whatever reason.
I usually like to have a tank; dw; range rogue and a mage. Sometimes I'll have two mages, or two warriors--SnS and Two handed. So, that has alot to do with things.
If I have a LI I can take into battle, they will always have a spot on the roster--9/10. However, that was not the case for me in DAI.

I usually take Dorian with me everywhere, regardless of what class I'm playing. The other two slots go to LI and then whoever will best round out the party. For the most part, I like to have 2 mages, 1 rogue, and 1 warrior. For the tougher fights on harder difficulties I'll swap out the rogue (unless it's me) for another warrior. I'll also swap in IB or Sera for a dragon fight just 'cause I know they like them so much.

Dorian, Bull and Sera were my usual party but I would sometimes swap out Sera for Cole. For me, that would be my regular team in the next game if they were options...except if Fenris and Zev were made available, then I`d go Dorian, Fenris and Zev.

Yeah - one of my DW Inquisitors was an Assassin, the other a Tempest. Will never go anything other than Tempest for a DW Inquisitor again. I sometimes wonder if making her "iconic" style archery was an unconscious attempt at nerfing by Bioware.

Yeah, I have to ignore all the in game nods to her being an archer. I mean, it's just like . I know, Game. I know, but I'm still speccing her to dw. Thank you very much.

I never go anywhere without Cole. He has insight into side quests that make them more interesting and appears out of no where to kill the enemy closest to me before it touches me. Solas is my best mage! Always puts a barrier up, always stops the enemy from striking me, just like Cole! After the main game, Dorian is my preferred mage substitute for Solas (I find I have to manage him unlike Solas though). Cass is my reliable tank! She never fails!

My party varies according to who I am romancing and what class I play. My canon Inquisitor was an archer rogue who romanced Solas, so I had him and Cass as a staple and then I would add whomever I felt like. I did really like having Dorian in my party (mostly because of the banter) or sometimes Bull (because he complemented the party nicely with regards to his abilities). I obviously rarely used Sera as I was already playing an archer and she and my Inquisitor did not have very good relationship. I did like having Varric in the party despite being an archer simply for the banter, so in the end I usually rotated between him, Bull and Dorian for the third slot.
All in all I would say my least used companions in my canon playthrough was Sera and Vivienne (not that I disliked her, but Solas was a given and I liked Dorian more).
I did bring Cole for most of Trespasser though simply because I liked hearing what he picked up about the surroundings.

Since I can't vote (I think?) anymore I'll just write my preference down:
Cassandra, Cassandra and Cassandra.
It was a pretty difficult decision, since I could've either had Cassandra or Cassandra for the third choice.

Cass, Varric, and Dorian.
Partly because I just like them, partly for story reasons. I think Cassandra is a lot like Aveline, with a protective streak a mile wide. At first, she wouldn't let Varric and the newly minted Herald of Andraste out of her sight because she doesn't trust them. Later, it's because the Inquisitor is both a friend, and a leader who needs someone to watch their back. Varric is always solid, and looking for a story. Dorian always ends up being the Inquisitors BFF.
If dragons are involved, Bull and Sera might get swapped in, because Bull pouts for weeks if he gets left out.
Solas is always judgy, and I always got bad vibes. Blackwall is "Blackwho?" Cole and Vivienne...I need to use more when I play next. Cole has wonderful observations, and Vivienne is a badass mage.

It depends on the story I guess, if you play the female elf solas is brought along most of the time.
This playthrough is a human so it's random, not sure yet for end game.
I really wish the triggers for companions talking were random. If I find a blank spot on the map, they chat.
It makes bringing new characters a chore if you haven't brought them out much, I hope they never do that again.
Also Cassandra is unstoppable, I have been wondering if it's because of what I have crafted or is she just overpowered because holy crap.

Hard choice because it largely depends on what kind of inquisition I'm building.
But to break it down, Solas is my favorite mage, Cole is my favorite rogue, and Blackwall is my favorite warrior. So I guess my ideal party would be that.

I usually decided based on who my Inquisitor would prefer. That being said it's really difficult for me to leave Cole behind. I am absurdly biased when it comes to Cole because he's my favorite character. My favorite party is Cole, Dorian/Solas and Varric. In my most recent play through I basically overpowered my rogue & cole to be tanks so I could afford having only rogues and mages. Also the banter/dialogue for that party is great.

I can't seem to vote, but my team depends on which Inquisitor I'm playing as, though Iron Bull is a must in every file.
Natasha Trevelyan (mage), Cassandra, Iron Bull and Varric.
Elizabeth Trevelyan (sword/shield warrior), Dorian, Iron Bull and Cole.
Sofie Lavallan (Dual wield rogue), Solas, Iron Bull and Blackwall.

I recently tried a take only the first companions you meet playthrough for both ME2 and DA. I took Miranda and Jacob on all the main missions, including the recruitment ones and in DAI I had Cass, Solas and Varric with me on all the main quests. For awhile I thought Cass and Varric were going to kill each other but after "Here Lies The Abyss" they seemed to warm up to each other. I love that about the banter in DAI. You hear of progressive friendships if you take the same companions along. I remember Blackwall despised Cole for quite a few quests and then during a trip to the Hissing Wastes he said Cole was alright.

Even before you know who they are, there are both broad and subtle hints that they aren't quite on the up and up. As much as I like my top 3, I really need to have a playthrough where I swap companions more, just to hear all the banters.
