Honestly, I'm kinda unimpressed. It looks pretty dated tbh. Agreed. I don't see anything that really sets this one apart from all the other FPSs out there aside from the title. I think it depends on how you viwe it really as it's a Halo gam eand it still very much looks and feels like a Halo game to me based on this trailer. I can see myself gettin git a tsom estage though I wantto see if Halo 5 comes to PC first.

I have to say, I expected more. Gameplay and graphics-wise, this wouldn't be a standout game even in current gen. They did borrow Doom's grappling hook though, which should add some fun traversal.

Well I do remember hearing somewher that with these new machines we shouldn't be expecting any big jumps straightaway. I think mostly because the ystil l wan tt oaccfomodate the PS4 and Xb1 for a little longer. I do agree though it doesn't look like for example Halo 2 anniversary and what I've seen of Halo 5 for example but it still looks good fun and as you asy tha tgrapplin hookj looks like it could be fun to use. I can see myself having good fun with it though. It's also possible that they'er focusing moe ron making sure it runs optimal on both current gen as well as next which is why maybe the graphics maybe dumbed down a bit.

Oh the feel of a Halo game is there, don't get me wrong, its just that the gameplay and concepts at play here feel very dated compared to what's out there already. Take Master Chief's wrist grapple for example; Titanfall 2 had that over four years ago. And all the over Halo mechanics, while very true to form, have been done in other games ad nauseam at this point. 343 hasn't really done anything with the Halo brand since Halo 4 to really draw me back into the franchise like Bungie did. That and I still haven't forgiven them for ditching split screen on Halo 5; if Infinite follows suit on this then I will just be watching Youtube clips instead of purchasing.

TBH Halo has never reall ydone anything that uniqu eever even back when Bungie was doing the firs tgames three were already FPS games around doing what Halo was. Halo is and has always simply just doing it in it's own style. Just like Doom has it's and Battlefield and COD have theirs.

I love the gameplay and the story. My only worry is I hope they didn’t kill off any of the characters I like.

Haha, it's kinda funny that this thread is coming back to the top right now because I am just getting into the Hlao Masterchief Collection. As a PC gamer, I never had much contact with Halo beyong playing Combat Evolved some time fairly long after its release on PC and I barely remember it.
So I figured I'd find out what the bog deal was with this series that XBox acolytes claim was the definitive proof that shooters actually work better on console than they do on PC.
Well, on the rist of sounding like an aloof PC master raceler, so far, I am not impressed ... at all.
I ahve started in the chronological order as the MCC kinda demands and so far I am half way through the trilogy prequel Reach. Now, from what I understand, Reach was one of the last HALO titles still developed by Bungie and is widely considered one of the (if not THE) best entries in the "old" Halo saga. The release of the original game was in 2010, so about the same time as e.g. Mass Effect 2. On PC at that time, Crysis was already 3 years old. The MCC features ome sort of remastered version I guess (or maybe not, I am not sure).
So, as far as the story goes, it might not be best to start with Reach if you are new to the lore (like I am) because it seems, despite being a prequel, it assumes that the player already knows the world. There is basically no exposition beyond the title that tells you that you are on this planet called Reach. Than you squad is introduced (within about 5 seconds) and of you go after some downed comm relay when very quickly the covenant show up. The game seems to imply that I already know everything about the UNSC, the covenant, the ongoing war, what Spartans are and so on and so on. I, as a new player, actually had to go to a wiki and read up a little bit on it because I had no idea about any context. This was probably all fine at the initial release of the game in 2010 as it aws after Halo 3 but now that they made it the first game of the series in the MCC, which targets completely unfamiliar PC players it would have been great to maybe add a little introduction video to the game to get us up to speed at least a little. As for the lore itself, from all I have seen and read so far (which is quite a bit), it does come across as fairly generic "we need some story for some shooter games" lore. Somehow, I always had the impression that Halo also had some fairly deep lore to it but at least from what I can gather so far, it's not very deep at all and mostly fleshes out story aspects that are very directly necessary for the respective games. Definitely no comparison to other lore stuff like Mass Effect, Star Craft or Deus Ex.
But ok, I can completely forgive this. What really disappointed me about this highly acclaimed console game is just the gameplay. Ok, the fairly open levels are nice and it's cool to have some vehicles but boy it all feels weird. The weapons have absolutely no feedback to them. Firing them feels like firing a BB gun (worst for the alien weapons but the human weapons are frankly not much better), there is basically no feel of impact in the enemies when you hit something. Movement feels like gliding around the level more than anything. Abilities also lack in impactful effects. I just feel completely disconnected from the game world somehow. And then there are the vehicles. I mean, honestly, I don't understand why any XBox player who maust have played Halo would have ever complained about the MAKO in ME1. Those buggies or alien glider things are at least as rubber ball-y as the MAKO ever was.
In terms of graphics, well, the game doesn't look entirely bad but even for 2010 standards I wouldn't call it anything spectacular (which is even worse if this is already a pimped up remaster version now).
All in all, I got to admit, I'm a bit shocked as to how generic and just mediocre everything is. It's not necessarily bad but I certainly expected way more and IMO it just doesn't really justify all the hype that the series generated. But then, maybe this is just hindsight and you had to be there or something. So, sorry, I realize this will probably not go over well with the Halo fans out there but I just wanted to convey my surprise. I will keep going through the series though. From what I remember from Halo 1 back when I played it, at least at that point it didn't change much and from what I saw in wiki pages, Reach really was considered a high point by many but well, we'll see.

In fact becaus eHal oWars 1 supposedl ytakes plac ebefoer Reach and Comba tEvolved did I'm thinking I might start there when I do begin my run of the series. Yeah if you want to play the series chronologically you do it as Halo Wars Halo: Reach Halo: Combat Evolved Halo 2 (up until defeating the Scarab) Halo 3: ODST Halo 2 (rest of it from first Arbiter mission) Halo 3 Halo 4 Halo 5: Guardians Halo Wars 2

Seeing Master Chief with a hook feels awkward. Like am I watching Halo or Just Cause? XD

The Chief without Cortana is like MacGyver without his SAK.

But even if it doesn' tby the time I get tha tfar I can always go through it again if and when 5 does come to PC.

So I was watching the new trailer for the game and upon seeing the super grunt my mind went: "they fly now?!"

So, I continued my Halo run a little. finished Reach and I don't really have that much to add about it to my previous post form the last pasge.
Played through Halo 1 and I didn't remember from my old playthrough (which was some time in the 2000s, so more than 10 years ago) how much story is actually in it. I think the terminal with the additional story tidbits are new but still, even without, the story is more elabrate than I remembered.
As for the terminals, it's definitely a cool addition but I find it a bit weird that they hid them that much. The lore videos are great and well worth seeing but it's very easy to miss these little blinky terminals. Fortunately I found the one in the second level by accident and then I just used a guide to find them all from there on.
Anyway, even with the remastered anniversary edition, Halo 1 just doesn't look that great anymore. And the level design is really shitty. There is hardly a level in this game where you don't have to backtrack a lot or where level design isn't just 3 rooms repeated ad nauseam. But hey, despite that, I did make it through.
Then I started Halo 2 and my jaw dropped. I cannot believe how much they stepped up the presentation. Those CGI video before and after every mission are absolutely gorgeous. I mean, that's Blizzard quality right there. And the covenant are actually getting some sort of culture now, so that's pretty cool. I just got to the point where I play Keith David's covenant character (didn't expect not to play as MC).
The gameplay itself is still pretty much the same as it was but the level design so far also seems a little improved from Halo 1. So yea, finally, I am somewhat impressed.
