Just out of curiosity, is there a thread specifically for getting recommendations on games to play based on the type of games you like. I searched around the forum a bit but I could have missed it. I know a lot games have individual threads but I didn’t know if there was one just to get recommendations and/or offer suggestions about games you liked or might like to play, ect. This seemed the closest I could find for some ideas outside of the what you are playing threads.

Final Fantasy X and Tales of Vesperia are the two with no wuestion.
Oblivion and Uncharted 2 are old favourites up there. And Fallout 4, Ori, and Black Flag have recently entered the discussion.

KOTOR 2: One of my all time favorite games. Kreia is awesome and I think her revelation had much more impact than the Darth Revan thing. KOTOR2 changed the way I think about certain things in the Star Wars lore. Overall I think the game was little bit confusing at times like when it comes to companions and romances, that was maybe better handled in KOTOR 1 and the ending was really just... I don't know sudden, disappointing even? Still, I thought many of the characters were really strong and KOTOR 2 is definitely different from anything else I've ever played. What made the Exile special as a character to me was his connection to Kreia and other companions... as well as his background and having once worked with Revan.
Batman - The Telltale Series: Batman has always been my favorite superhero so no surprise I liked this game as much as I did. It's only the second Telltale's game for me but expectations were certainly exceeded. I like how much control the player is given over Batman's relationships and how he deals with everything that comes his way. There's lot of great, multidimensional characters - Vicky, Harvey, The Penguin... The story of Batman is pretty dark but that's probably why I like it. He's not like other superheroes all high and mighty and always right, but rather often deals with self-doubt and there's no absolute right or wrong to anything which I love. I love Bruce Wayne's story in this game and how many twists and turns it takes in every episode. I liked both Harvey and Penguin but sadly at the end I feel like there wasn't enough options to try to redeem them and act remorsefully. To make them see things from Bruce's perspective and not just blame them for everything. Joker was the only character whose game version I didn't particularly like here - it was just too over the board for me. He wasn't scary, just comical.

Metro Series. I simply love this series, the games are like tailor made for me, the perfect mix between survival, horror, first person shooter in a super awesome environment. The gunplay is also excellent, and very few games get that right, and I am especially picky because I do own and shoot firearms myself. I absolutely love everything in this series and I agree with 99% of the game design decisions. Even Anna is awesome. Can't wait for Exodus! Well, I can wait, but I hate it.

The Elder Scrolls Series. Not as much now, but these games were my introduction to rpgs in general so I still feel nostalgic about them.
Fallout 1 and 2
KOTOR 2
Pillars of Eternity
Shadowrun (Dragonfall and Hong Kong)
Planescape: Torment
Stardew Valley. I also loved various Harvest Moon titles as a kid.

There is no one favorite game, but here are my top X, in no particular order:
Dishonored 1+2 Deus Ex Human Revolution (DXMD, not so much) Thief 1+2 (the original) XCOM 1+2 (the new sequence) Pillars of Eternity 1+2 Minecraft (heavily modded, probably the game into which I put most hours by a large margin) Europa Universalis IV The Witcher 3
I'm not sure if I should list the old classics Planescape: Torment, Bhaalspawn Trilogy and Fallout 1+2. They were favorite in their time and for long years after, but I don't play them much anymore, if at all.

Best games ever tier:
Jedi Knight II & Jedi Academy Civilization V (BNW) XCOM II Age of Empires II: Conquerors Need For Speed Most Wanted (Best Racing)
Great game tier:
Prince of Persia: Warrior Within Assassin's Creed 1 & Black flag StarCraft Obsidian & Bioware: NWN 1 & 2 (with expansions) ME2, DAO, KOTOR I & II, New Vegas American Conquest: Fight Back Borderlands II COD 2 & World At War GTA San Andreas & V Heroes IV (WoW) & V (Tribes of the East) Doom II, UT 2004 Sim City 4 Dark Souls 2 Victoria: Revolutions (yeah, still better than all those new Paradox games) Company Of Heroes (Tales of valor) / Warhammer 40K DoW I (with Dark Crusade)
Still haven't played Divinity - Original Sin and Witcher games enough to put on the list!
Yeah, I'm too hyper to stick to one genre!

BioWare games are special to me for I can go back and replay them. I find I might go back and replay a game one to two more times and then I am done with it. Compared to the thousands of hours I have put into BioWare games over the years.
Outside of BioWare made games its a small list: -No One Lives Forever 1 and 2 -Fallout 1 & 2 with honorable mentions to Fallout: Tactics -The Shadowrun series by Hairbrained Schemes -Honorable mentions to Final Fantasy 3 / 6 since I just bought it on my phone for Christmas travels so it joins Jade Empire and Knights of the Old Republic as a travel game which means its going to gain a new steady rotation from me.

Portal 2 - Brilliant writing, satisfying puzzles, and a great co-op mode.
Super Mario World - Precise gameplay, and one of the best overworld maps I've seen in a platformer.
Donkey Kong Country - My first console game. I played all five games in the main series and loved every single one of them. (DK64 is trash and doesn't count.)
Super Mario Odyssey - Everything about this game is absolutely perfect.
The Witcher 3 - This one set a new standard for open world games.
Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis - I learned English playing this game. I think this is the most impressive of all the LucasArts adventures because of its scope and branching paths.
Life Is Strange - I don't understand why I love this game so much. The dialog is really corny at times and there are barely any likable characters. Despite that, it just works.

Outside of Bioware ...
Souls series. Introduced while I was mainly gaming on Xbox 360, started with Dark Souls. Instantly obsessed. Loved the very hands off storytelling and the feel of a true 'alone against the dungeon' dungeon crawl feeling. Played Dark Souls 1 and Dark Souls 2 on Xbox 360 to full completion and then some.
Fast forward to the following gen (PS4) played and loved Dark Souls 3, it's actually my favorite of the series. Naturally I played until 100% completion and continued for more playthroughs even coming back much later to do a co-op run with my brother to make sure he experienced this gem of a game. Hell, I bought the Dark Souls 2 Scholars of the First Sin version for PS4 and 100% completed that game ... again. That's a lot of souls playthroughs.
Went back and bought a PS3 mainly for Demon's Souls ... many hours later 100% completion on that brutal bastard of a game. Figured why not buy Dark Souls 1 and 100% complete that ... again. Now I have the remaster on PS4 and someday I will 100% that again. Something about the Souls series just never gets stale for me.
The atmosphere of the world and depth to the gameplay, coupled with the very imaginative storytelling never fails to draw me in. I have two character archetypes I play in each souls series and I imagine them to be reincarnations of themselves for each game.
-----
If I had to choose 3 game series for a deserted island situation I would take Dragon Age, Mass Effect, and the Souls series. I think I could be pretty happy only having those to play until the end of my time.
Plenty of other great games I love as well but conversation for another post.

I have to give the honorable (post mortem) mention to my favourite genre that has been pretty much dead for 20 years - space combat simulators. I know, I know, but trust me when I say Elite:Dangerous doesn't count. It's not a space sim if you don't have 3 keyboards worth of shortcut buttons in order to play it.
X-wing and Tie Fighter series. I loved Aeron Azameen and the trigger happy MK in Alliance. The mission where we have to extract Aeron under the nose of Vader's Super Star Destroyer in middle of a battle is still one of my all time favourites.
Freespace 1 and 2. Big ship battles done right.
Starlancer - really nice feel of a larger conflict with all the news segments and mission variety.
Wing Commander series - can't miss the classics. Even when they wanted to be more a movie.

Every Civ 4 lover vs I the Civ 5 fanboy gave it another chance a year ago, just to realize how dumb, cheap unit-spamming and my thing is bigger the war can get. Unlike Civ 5 master strategy and tactics game.
