Cinematic Announcement Trailer:Gameplay Trailer:Website: www.shadowofwar.com/Release Date: August 27/17 (PC/XB1/PS4) Holy crap... the combat & cinematics in this game look fantastic. The UI looks very clean too (for the most part).

I love LOTR, but I didn't like Shadows of Mordor, at all. We'll see about this one though, maybe they improve the existing mechanics and I end up liking it. I sure as hell hope so, because we don't really have LOTR games anymore. It's like Star Wars, nobody seems to be releasing anything interesting for that franchise; you'd think they will milk the shit out of it releasing games left and right, but I guess not.

I haven't watched it all, but they had a 2 hour Twitch event today (no new gameplay though). And then... this.

Game looks great. Shadow of Mordor was one of those sleeper hits for me. Didn't know anything about it, but became one of my favourite games the year it was released. The nemesis system was also something new, and fun, even though it certainly more limitations then i hoped. Still the sequel seems to just dial it up and play on the strengths of the first game, which is great.

Damn. That gameplay trailer has started overshadowing my hype for Andromeda. I'm really looking forward to how the updated Nemesis plays out, as my play style resulted in me not really getting a substantial nemesis. Hopefully the followers will suit me better. I just hope this trailer is an honest representation of how things play out.

I just saw the gameplay (I wasn't even aware they released a gameplay video, thankfully I saw an AJ gameplay reaction in my YT feed), and yeah it looks pretty neat, not gonna lie. If they keep what they promised here and it ends up in the game, I'm sure it'll be a great game.
The thing I didn't like about the first one is how every enemy was essentially a bullet sponge (sword sponge, I suppose), and the only way to killing them was doing combos and executes and what have you, pretty reminiscent of Batman games, but worse. I'm okay with this system for bosses, but every single orc? that was too much for my liking. Also how all the orcs respawned infinitely every few minutes. I wasn't expecting to convert Mordor in a death land (literally) by killing all possible npc's, but I felt like all the kills I did didn't matter because they just respawned again super quickly anyways, so I focused more in avoiding rather than fighting unless necessary.
Hopefully this game is a bit more different in that regard.

Shadow of War is an appropriate title, cause nothing compares to Kratos. Ha ha, just kidding. I hope they do an awesome renovation of the Nemesis System.

They held another Twitch "Q&A" the other day. "Q&A"... it was 99% Questions and maybe 1% Answers. But...They did tease that you could fly drakes out into the open world (and there are a variety of them), using them as mounts/weapons - Very Cool. They also teased that they will have mod support - Also Very Cool! And you can also apparently grow your ring's power over the course of the game. Keeps can be grown into fortresses in stages.

I watched it on YT like a day after or something (again, I didn't even know there was a stream, lol). The whole orc army thing looks pretty complex, when they said depending on your actions and which orc you may had promoted some others will turn against you and whatnot. I'm curious though, are these 2 games considered canon in LOTR universe? I mean, are these stories "approved" within the lore?

And I can't imagine these games being canon themselves, though they seemed to suggest the story will lead into the canon LotR.

Yeah, the Nemesis systems seems to be more involved than ever. And I can't imagine these games being canon themselves, though they seemed to suggest the story will lead into the canon LotR. I was curious because it caught my attention when the guy mentioned the uruk-hai and said that they were in the first (Shadow of Mordor) game. The uruk-hai were orcs (although in the books is not exactly suggested what they were...) created by Saruman when he went rogue, the uruk-hai are not "natural" orcs. So I was skeptical when he mentioned that.

There was also some tease and possibility of save import by the devs. Basically transffering your favorite nemesises you had in the first game.

I can tell Hrungr is super excited for this game! I was too busy playing Dragon Age Inquisition to play the first one, but my husband LOVED it. I showed him the 15 minute walkthrough, and you would have thought Christmas came early for him.

Though the first game was quite basic, it was very enjoyable, and the Nemesis system was awesome.
This will likely be my next game after MEA.

There was another stream two days ago apparently quite a few days ago actually, "part 2" or something, it's not the same dev so it's new I assume. Haven't checked it yet.

Hmm, the animations seem to lack the polish they had in the previous gameplay trailer. Was the first one more of a vertical slice?
It's still in development though, so I'll keep my fingers crossed they'll address this in the end...

Seeing Minas Ithil in its former glory would be nice. Hopefully we can see the before and after, when it becomes Minas Morgul, I always wanted to know how it looked inside those walls ever since I watched the movies.
Good thing they announced the game now and it releases on August. I hate when companies announce a game that is going to be released 3 years later.

As fun and intriguing as Shadow of Mordor and Shadow or War's gameplay looks, a small part of me is unsure if I could ever get past the adolescent fan fic nature of it's story. The game's writers ditched Tolkein's themes of faith and fellowship, compassion, and how power and revenge inevitably corrupt and destroy it's user in favor of yet another emo, grimdark BAMF. "Yeah, let's get rid of all those gay hobbits and old fart wizards and play as a totally radical immortal Ranger whose also like a good Ringwraith! But not too good, cause were METAL!!!" The whole thing strikes me as both paradoxically munchkin nerd AND hardcore dudebro. If the creators had taken the "Dark Lord Hack and Slash/RTS hybrid" concept and made an original story, I might have been more interested. Oh wait, someone did and called it Overlord...
