This gets me thinking about F1 video games... Have you ever played one of those games and had something like this happen: ?

Looking forward to the season. Even though it'll probably just be Hamilton dominating again. Disappointed by Mclaren, but then I should have expected it - it's not 1998 anymore. I hope Carlos Sainz Jr can beat Hulkenberg this season, I think that will be the most interesting team mate battle this year.

I'm a Ferrari man through and through, and have been since I was a child. My dad is a McLaren man, and he's been nothing but disappointed in the last few years. Alas, I come from F1-fan stock, and it's always been something of a cult status in the US. It's been in the press a few times, and despite the big number of fans, most see it as something Europeans are more known for. My dad's been a fan and hardcore follower of the sport since he was a child, and he's always talking about how he grew up watching Lauda and Hunt duking it out on raceday. I'm partially named after Hunt, with James being my middle name. My first name is also after a Formula one driver, but I'll decline mentioning it since I'd rather not everyone on the BSN knew my name. My dad's favorite driver was Senna, but he also loved some lesser known names like Gilles Villeneuve and Tom Pryce.
I've always been partial to Schumi (I grew up with him helming Ferrari,) and it's been absolutely heartbreaking to hear about his status after his skiing accident, and I just think that it's just a terrible way for him to go out, since given the length of time and damage that he's faced from the accident without improvement, I just don't realistically ever see him being the same man again, if he lives long term.
I'd say that my favorite drivers today are Fernando and Kimi. I... tolerate Vettel, and cheer for Ferrari instead of him, and I'm not a particularly large fan of Lewis Hamilton. I've always loved Felipe Massa as well, and it's a shame he was never able to hit the heights that I think he was truly capable of. I fear for Fernando, and see that he's aging and wasting his prime in sub-par cars. I used to hate him, but I met him once, and he was the definition of awesome. Combined with his going over to Ferrari, and he's become a favorite.
Then there's the historical looks at the series over the past few decades, from Senna to Prost, to V

I think I'll watch F1 again when they re-designed the halo. For me as a spectator the looks of a car is important too, and for me the cars look just extremely unattractive now. I do not say they should sacrifice safety in the name of appearance but I do hope they'll take a close hard look at the Indycar windshield.

I've missed both races so far, bit of a shame, but it sounds like I haven't missed much. More Hamilton being overly cocky punk, Vettel just winning stuff and being happy (until he doesn't then he is about as bad of a whiner as Hamilton). Hope the fights in the middle of the pack have at least been more entertaining.

I've enjoyed both races so far, with Bahrain being the more entertaining of the two. The last 10 laps or so were nerve racking, Vettel making those softs last 39 laps on a one stop was great to watch. Driver of the Day for me is Gasly though, watching Torro Rosso lose their minds when he crossed the line was funfastic.

As a die-hard Ferrari fan I am afraid that (in spite of the 2 victories) we'll fail to win the championship even this year. Mercedes is still superior and it is going to make the difference in the long run. In Melbourne Vettel was able to take advantage of the virtual safety car and of a lack of clear rules concerning the speed limits in the pit lane. In Bahrain he could win thanks to an enormous hazard. He did the same thing during Silverstone GP last year but in that case it didn't go well and he lost the race when the tire blew up during the last lap. This time he was luckier but the point is, we won't be able to come up with something every time in order to come in first.

Yeah I also think Mercedes AMG just had a bit of bad luck, when they finally (mostly Hamilton) gets on, it's a no brainer.
On my part I only want 1 or 2 victories from Raikkonen before he retires, cause a second championship is more of a fantasy dream.

Ferrari screwed the pooch with the timings of the pit stops, so so late. Then both Ferrari and Merc dropped the ball on pitting on the safety car. Bottas and Vettel were in the wrong place on track but they could have responded with Hamilton and Kimi. Good on Red Bull for seeing that chance when no one else did and great job Ricciardo for a clean fight to the front.
Verstappen really needs to pull his head in with the silly overtaking attempts, the penalty should have been a stop go, he has been warned before and he is just not listening.

My reaction to Ocon screwing his race by being a dummy and turning into Kimi. Force India moaning about it... Jeebus, get a grip. Edit: Oh lol, nice job Red Bull. Grosjean being the idiot he normally is... "Ericsson hit us..." What? The guy was barely on same part of the track. He seems to have trouble admitting to his own mistakes.

I'm going to give Grosjean the benefit of the doubt that he was a bit confused and concussed, given the g-force triggering the medical car and his fumbling out of the car. I know Verstappen and Ricciardo have both been reprimanded by FIA for the crash but dammit Verstappen you only get to move once. Poor Bottas, you had that in the bag and deserved it .... Lewis you lucky bastard.

Was nice to see the crash between the RedBull drivers, saw that coming all race.
Putting aside the crash, Verstappen defended his position against Ricciardo very nice, and was very entertaining to see, I'm sure the annoying smile Ricciardo has, was erased quickly yesterday and he also needed a lesson of humility, as his last declarations were very arrogant. He is a very good driver but not a superstar driver like Hamilton, Vettel or Alonso or even Kimi at his prime.

Lately, I have found F-1 to be boring....Very little passing/action happening. And there are only a handful of tracks that I really like, Spa being my favourite. Monaco is a beautiful city but I find the unbelievably narrow streets make for a very boring race because it's all nose-to tail. The same with Azerbaijan. I love the shots on TV where they pass the old historic buildings and the wide-angle shots that take in much of the countryside, but like Monaco, it's a track that doesn't allow for a lot of passing opportunities. Not many of the tracks do. Typically in races like this, the driver who takes the Pole or whom ever can get out in front first off the starting grid...usually wins the race. And in nearly all the races this year, with the exception of 2, that has been Hamilton. Which is fine by me because he's the one driver that I really like. But the worst addition to F-1 in recent years has been the super-charged 1.6 liter hybrid electric engines. They're gutless (in comparison to the old gasoline engines of the 70,80s and 1990s), they sound terrible and in my opinion they just don't bring the excitement of the 'roar' of an F-1 car the way an older gasoline-powered V-10 or V-12 used to.

- Alonso third! - On pure driving, all the way! In a noncompetitive car. But maybe not quite as noncompetitive as usually. The best thing that has happened to F1 for a very long time. Hamilton suddenly having like 100hp more than anyone else, including his own team mate, in these last 2 races, is of course cool (as long as it's legal). It's what F1 is about: Team, technology, engine, car, tires, driving, all parts. But at times it's not what everybody wants to see, particularly not at the end of an otherwise close championship contest, though I'm sure Hamilton fans are content.

Foul-mouthed, arrogant, cocky........ Ever since that series I have not liked Verstappen and I still don't. He complains about everything.....Just like Alain Prost used to when Senna would clearly and fairly beat him. Ah, Senna......Now there is a Driver I truly miss. Pure and true tragedy that he was taken from us. What a genius he was. He was truly a masterful artist in the rain....and I honestly think that instead of the title of a light-hearted novel, his BIO should instead be titled "The Art of Racing in the Rain", because the wetter it got....the better he drove.

Well, Hamilton will win next race as well, if there's no mechanical issue or contact. No one can touch him with that new engine. It's just so much better. IMO you can't really say "clearly and fairly beat anyone" about drivers in F1. It's always so much the car. Sure, Senna was faster, but only in the car Prost had developed. Put them in different teams and the story is different. And the two guys who have really won most of the races and championships in recent decades, are named Ross Brawn (Benneton->Renault, Ferrari, Brawn->Mercedes) and Adrian Newey (Williams, McLaren, Red Bull), Not the drivers. Mansell, Prost, Schumacher, Hill, Villeneuve, Haakinen, Alonso, Button, Vettel, Hamilton, Rosberg were just "lucky" to happen to get a seat at the right time. Not all luck, of course. The idea is that the best driver and best car gravitates towards each other. And there is some of that. But, it's not exact, and you'll never convince me of that Villeneuve or Button were any of the, say, top 6 drivers, the years they won the championship. Brawn have retired of course, and somebody else is waving the magic wand in Mercedes today, and Newey has taken sabbaticals for America's Cup and Aston Martin Valkyrie, but you get the point. ...And in the top teams, the two drivers rarely have the same material. One is most often "the Chosen one". I don't mind that. I may have when I was younger, but it's part of the game. It's what F1 is. It's in the end a team sport and a technology competition. It's almost a pity that the driver gets all the glory. Otoh, he's the one who puts his life on the line. During the first Covid season, I got some insight into some of the current drivers' personalities. They drove a couple of series of sim racing F1 races with Jimmy Broadbent and a bunch of other guys. And they had open chat, screaming, laughing and talking. And, well, the young drivers, Verstappen, Leclerc, Norris, Russel are just kids. Cocky kids, sure. Verstappen and Leclerc are the verbally toughest and also like to tease and rile. Just like boys do to bond. There's no malice, and arrogance is just jokingly. Though I'm sure Verstappen is very focused when it comes to RL, just as he should be. Norris and Russel are maybe slightly more timid, but not much. Don't remember if Gasly was there? But Perez drove some races. Very mature and calm. Very sympathetic. Just like the old man, Emerson Fittipaldi, not jr, the real thing. Jimmy (who did wreck Leclerc ) was very scared of the possibility of accidently wrecking Emerson , (and maybe he did, don't remember). Current F1 line up, I like Alonso, Norris and Perez. Those are the guys I cheer for.
