I originally played this on PS4. I did two entire playthroughs to get the "true ending" (no chapter select for me) and elected to continue into subsequent new game pluses to finish the rest of the achievements and so forth.
I was surprised by how much I regretted my decision, since in the end I just used the Resistance character's "special shop" and stopped playing shortly after.
The XBone edition is included with the Gamepass thing I got for a dollar last month, so when I decided to play it again, I also resolved to choose to "upload" this time when I got to the end.
Which didn't stop me from doing my usual completionist thing, even though I fully realized I was just making the final act that much more difficult. I think I had 85-95 % complete in all the different categories after two full playthroughs of all 3 parts. But I did it. I "uploaded." You're welcome, 3 people still playing this game in 2021. :p

Long-dead thread, I know, but I've been playing this game the past couple months, and am I the only one to find the chip management system confusing on PC? I honestly have no idea what I'm clicking on or how to move different combinations of chips around, to the point that I usually just go with some sort of automated choice. I'm also wondering if this is why some boss battles have turned out to be ridiculously difficult even on Easy settings. (The other part is that I also kinda suck at the hacking minigame, though there again I feel like the keyboard controls aren't the best.)

The chip system is a big learning curve. If I get a chance, I'll take some screenshots of my build so you at least have an idea to aim for. - Prioritize buying the chip slot expansions, if you haven't already. - Cost is random, so you want the cheapest ones you can get. The best ones will have a diamond next to them, indicating that their slot cost is much lower than normal. - Try and combine only cheap, diamond-marked chips. Two identical diamond chips will raise 1 level and only increase cost by 1. Save good chips for later in case you get a double of it, even if you aren't currently using it. Sell off any chips that you're not using, and that are too expensive to be worth combining with others. - Most important chips: Invulnerability after damage, regeneration, slow time when dodging, and the force wave that extends melee range. Edit: Oh, and also "Auto-Use." You'll start with an expensive one, but you'll eventually want a cheaper one that's higher level. Edit Screenshots of my build. To move them around, you can click on them in either list (on console, you can move between the "squares" on the right and the drop list on the lift using the d-pad.) Once selected, the d-pad will move it up and down the list. I believe "sort" should keep your current equipped chips but organize them by type.

Thanks, I appreciate the help. Part of the problem is probably that my maximum level is only 48, and unless I'm just being obtuse, it hasn't always been clear which items at the shops are expansion slots. I'll try to take a closer look next time I go shopping.
Meanwhile, I'm currently in what I think is Path C or D - I'm alternating between control of 9S and A2 - and I'm a little confused as to why 9S hasn't tried to tell anyone else about what he discovered regarding the humans on the moon in Path B. (I'm leaving that somewhat vague to avoid spoilers.) I guess he and 2B were pretty much in non-stop crisis mode when they first reunite and maybe there just wasn't time, but he could certainly tell the androids at the resistance camp. Is he just too distraught over what's happened (again, trying to avoid spoilers) to think straight at the moment?
Also, the decision about Pascal's fate reminded me a bit of the rewrite/destroy decision regarding the Geth heretics in ME2. Though it probably packed an even stronger emotional punch - in some ways, Pascal and his villagers are probably the most sympathetic characters in the game.

it hasn't always been clear which items at the shops are expansion slots. I'm pretty sure the shop you mainly get them from is the same one where you first find out about fusing chips, at the resistance camp. Should be across from the weapon shop and the metagirl with the smiling head hat, and just beside the item shop where you do the first side mission. If you need money for buying them, I sell off any materials above 50, since you can only carry 99, and rarely need more than a dozen or two for upgrading at a time. Your assessment of 9S's psychological state is pretty bang-on, but you're right that there is also more to it. The transition between the "A and B" playthroughs to the "C and D" ones contains a lot of story packed into a very small amount of time, and it would be easy to miss or overlook details. If you decide to go for both "C" and "D," there are two ways to do it. You can just chapter select the last couple of chapters again, or start over from any earlier point. You could pick any chapter which had details you wanted to review and start there (I think it's around chapter 10 where you pick up as 2B after the original climax, but not sure.) I'll put the details that specifically explain why he hasn't yet in a spoiler that should fill in the gaps. It won't contain any information after where you are in the story: The "Red Eye Virus" infected the HQ, so there isn't any command structure to report to. During the sections where 9S hacks the towers, he will find many files and references that explain further, which I think you are probably only part-way through at this point.

Finished the game earlier this week. It's not my favorite *kind* of game - I prefer the Bioware/Bethesda/CDPR-type games where you have some influence over your own character - but it's probably one of the more unique stories I've encountered in gaming so far, and I liked the idea of both androids and machines trying to find their way in a future far from the one imagined by their original creators. I think I probably missed some of the plot details from not having played other games in this universe, but in a way it kind of fit with the idea that not everything is predictable or functioning according to its original design. In fact, this might be a game where giving the players more control over their characters wouldn't work, because most of us would probably try to steer 2B, 9S, and A2 in more "human" directions and force them to question their circumstances earlier in the story. They certainly would have had a tough time steering players into portraying 9S's growing instability towards the end. The one thing I don't understand even after reading up on the lore is why A2, at least when we meet her, is so insistent on killing the machines if she's "gone rogue" and considers YorHa command to have betrayed her. I know her perspective changes a little after meeting Pascal's group, but if she's no longer following orders, then why isn't she questioning whether this conflict is necessary in the first place?
