I want to give the game a 9-10, but it's just obviously not possible. Not even a 8.

It deserves a 7. It's riddled with bugs, animation failures, and it's obvious that it was released early because after Eos and Voeld, the other worlds have far less quest material.

I've been locked out nearly two weeks from progressing the game because Cora's asari ark transponder loyalty mission bugged on me (scanned last transponder, couldn't interact with it) and I was far ahead with a save as I expected a hotfix, not 2 weeks for a patch that may or may not fix it. It's a critical side mission about finding the asari ark, which determines Captain Dunn's survival as well, and my Cora has sat through the entire game locked out of her tier 6 skills.

To top it off, the M/M romances are insulting. I don't care about quantity. I care about quality. Of the two options we have, both men are made with the hideous character creator, which means I've found Reyes clones in Addison's office with a different hairstyle. None of the two options have unique art assets like the squad mates, they get less dialogue, and their sex/romance scenes are pitiful compared to everyone else.

Even with Reyes, who's a pretty cool character on his own, they just copy pasted the female Ryder animation template onto Scott, which ends up with him looking up into the air while dancing with Reyes despite him being taller than Reyes, and whenever they kiss, Scott actually kisses the side of Reyes's mouth since they copy pasted the animation straight off Sara Ryder instead of accounting for Scott's male dimensions.

I cannot as a PC user rebind my release from monster grab key, they didn't make a keybind for it so I'm stuck mashing "E".


I love the combat, I love my crew mates, but that cannot make up for the sheer degree of negligence in releasing the game in such an unpolished state. The gamestopping bugs, the seriously bad animations, the complete lack of diversity in racial faces (people love to point out asari, but don't say anything of Salarians or Angarans who are just as bad).

They deserve the criticism. It's a consumer product that demands scrutiny. The moment customers start to care less and less about quality standards, the more these companies will get away with.

I did not pay to beta test a product. And this game is no doubt still on a late beta state when it was released. It was rushed out; it could have been an amazing game. Now they are going to fix some things in several months, when the damage to early adapters has already been done.

I'm mad at Bioware because they are making it so easy for their enemies by deliberately damaging their own brand with these unpolished releases. They should have been on their A game after the ME3 fiasco, instead of abandoning this beloved franchise in favor of their new IP.

Much lower standards, true, but the writing and animations are still an order of magnitude higher than MEA.

MEA problem is it completely failed the high expectations but it's even bad on its own terms. People say "without the original trilogy MEA would've been rated much higher". I don't think so. Even if they fixed the animations the pedestrian writing would still bore people to tears.

He's Ricardo Montalban mixed with Han solo.

He's ok. A bit cliche, but a standout character.

The game needs a few more though I think, problem is not a lot of characters stand out

It's not getting the hate because people deemed it a great game before release. It didn't get the hate train Mass Effect got before release so that's why it's getting good reviews. Reviewers know they can get clicks and respect if they jump on the same train as gamers. 

Yep, agreed. 

Beyond the main characters and squadmates, I find myself having to do a quick google search when someone is talking about a character by name in this game. 

Just largely unforgettable characters. 

It will probably be something like Destiny/The Division, only good. SP and MP in one, with every Bioware cliche we've come to love/hate.

Have to wait and see.  Removing the RPG aspects but keeping the story and characters sounds like ME2 to me.  I can't say my interest is peaked but I'm not writing it off yet either.

Ugh, "Action/adventure" is the bane of the game industry. I honestly don't know whether BioWare is making games for their investors or their customers. 

Metacritic scores are usually just good for getting a general idea about a game and overall the game is around 6, 7 or 8 out of 10 for many it seems. regardless though the main issue is that they aggregate scores from different people with different rating systems while probably claiming that their algorithm or w/e makes it fair. plus some have their own interesting preferences. for example Jim Sterling giving Fallout 4 a 9.5/10 and Andromeda a 5.0/10. for the record i do believe Fallout 4 is a better game but the difference in score is amusing. it is subjective of course so i am just giving my opinion about another opinion.
