Except when the press release bragging about hitting some unit sales milestone happens to match what VGChartz says ...
Which very rarely happens. If they're not consistently accurate, then they're not reliable. If every time they're accurate it's worthy of front page headlines news, you know they're just guessing.
Also VGChartz changes their figures every time actual data is released in order to portray a sense of accuracy ... even if they're guesses were wildly inaccurate before. But by then official figures have been released so their site is not needed, which makes them utterly useless
Everyone remember that funny, funny moment when VGChartz had Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom at only having sold 30k? And when it was put to him Svensson was like LOLno. And then the real number came out at 600k? VGChartz was only out by a factor of 20, I mean well within the margin of error when you're pulling numbers out of your arse xD
In a newly released financial report by Capcom through a PDF it was revealed that the successor Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 sold 600k copies up to this point in the fiscal year.
This is a far cry from the ridiculously low number from other sales sources such as VGChartz.
Yeah VGCharts does seem to very inaccurate, if you take DAI for example it says the total sales across all platforms were 5.23 million yet we know it was above 6 million as it sold more than ME3. The ratios aren't even right , as last gen apparently sold about 1.1 million when we know last gen was 1/10th of copy solds which would mean that the total number of sales of DAI would have to be 11 million to be accurate, not the 5.23 this suggests. Overall, seems like the datas pretty bad.

Meanwhile, at Bioware HQ, the developers are wondering if it's too late to change Cullen's voice actor.
Uh ... probably easier to just not have Cullen appear at all? He's had a fine run, but time to retire, I think.
I just realized, Cullen is one of few characters to appear in all three games always - the only other one I can think of is Flemeth (you only get Leliana with DLC). Some, like Alistair, can potentially appear in all but those two were the only ones that are guaranteed a place as far as I can remember.
Gonna be weird probably not seeing either of them in the next one.

Leliana always shows up in DA2. She is in the final cutscene after Cassandra finishes with Varric. They could always show up as a small cameo.

I don't really disagree with you guys, VGChartz is inconsistent and therefore not reliable in all cases, granted. I pointed out that digital sales are always going to make even their most accurate data an undercount. And while there are many examples of VGChartz undercounting, as you noted, I don't recall examples of VGChartz overcounting. They err, but they don't err in a way that inflates numbers for the sake of the game's developers.
So when some hater or clickbaiter is posting about some game "tanking" and selling poorly, when VGChartz says it's doing fine, that at least is reason to question what we're being told. By all sides, if you prefer, but question it at least instead of taking it at face value.
Inquisitor: Is that innuendo? Sera: No, it's at the front!

All the time. Back in 2014 when the WiiU was released Wii fanboys were boasting US sales of over 500k according to VGchartz. Real number? 225k

Well, damn. I stand corrected.

There's actually a funny fan theory based around this fact. Cullen is the Dread Wolf and has tricked us all!

Sadly it isn't 11 million or the DA musical would be happening!
(Mark Darrah set a threshold of 10 million copies of DAI sold before he'd allow a musical DA to occur, and he recently tweeted that it hasn't got there yet. But, the whole idea of a musical just seems to be an in joke, so I never quite know what to believe when he tweets about it. )

I'm pretty sure the whole musical thing is an inner-team meme at this point, like "Alistair never loved you" seems to be.
Mountains. Cold. "Let's bring Dorian!" It's good to be Champion!

And given that's he's "quantum" by the end of DAI, anything more than a cameo would be unlikely at best.
Let's face it Cullen has no reason to be in the next instalment. Whatever you do with the Inquisition he retires from active service. If you didn't cure his lyrium addiction then the poor guy becomes an absolute mental wreck, which is the fate of every long term Templar. Otherwise, he sets up a retirement home for ex-Templars where they are probably assisted with dog therapy (proven to help patients with dementia).
Bringing back Cullen in DA2 ignored potential outcomes in DAO where he did not retain his sanity. Then his use in DAI was clearly due to his popularity with some fans. However, even with the shadow Inquisition in operation, this does not justify his continued participation in the story. I thought the writers had acknowledged this by ensuring that the epilogue to Trespasser tied off any possibility regardless of whether his outcome was good or bad. It is noticeable that he is not at that final war table (unless romanced by the Inquisitor).
So if he does make any sort of appearance, it is more likely to only be in the case of a romanced Inquisitor and may be his voice being heard through a sending crystal, assuming of course that the Inquisitor is present in the game. Nor are we likely to see Leliana again, since they made a point of saying she handed over control of the spy network to Harding and Charter. If the comics are anything to go by then Charter is the one we are most likely to see in the future.

So...Greg Ellis hit 10k, indirectly confirmed it is indeed about the new WoW game and apologised for using the Cullenites tag.
However, I am very pleasantly surprised by the fan reaction. No hate, no blaming, just asking if he's ok. So much love and caring. I have heard the DA fandom (and every single one) can be rather toxic, but this was a nice change to see.

Oh for goodness sake, you're not fooling anyone Greg. He was cashing in on his Cullen fame, which will ultimately just annoy BioWare. He so deliberately chose letters that are shared by Dragon Age and Bioware and used the hashtag, then the apology saying he didn't mean to poke the sleeping bear....yeah. Mkay.

I used to think it could be very bad, then I saw some other gaming communities and now I think we are pretty tame most of the time.

Yeah I also thought we were pretty bad and then I started following the Sims community again and remembered what a dumpster fire that was again - if they aren't campaigning to have a dev fired at any given day, they are having a go at other users for being a "shill". In all honesty it seems to be the same about 40 people that are spewing their crap but it's really really loud. I like this community better. For one, there's more bunnies
