You'd think I'd know better by now, but I still clicked on this. When DA4 is actually confirmed, what are they going to use for a title then? "IT'S REALLY REAL NOW, WE MEAN IT THIS TIME!" I knew better, but clicked just to see what piece of "news" they were stretching into 1000 words of hearing themselves write this time. A couple tweets. meh. |

Just noticed BioWare tweaked their logo. Although I think it's been this way for a little while now. - Hmm, I think I still prefer the older, heavier one...
Edit: for better comparison.
I also prefer the heavier one, but I guess they wanted to show that they are leaner and meaner? Or maybe just leaner, by a Montreal studio's weight? Sorry, someone had to say it.  |

Any rebranding (slight or not) for a large company tends to be very expensive, unless they did it all in-house. There's also the trickle-down costs for anything that needs to be printed (business cards, stationary, signage, shipping, etc.) or updated. I'm aware we're not talking pocket change for changes like that, but relatively speaking it's likely that they haven't spent a ton of their budget on it. If they went through an Ad Agency, for a global brand like BioWare, it could run $100K+, depending on a number of factors. But I'd say there's a good chance this was all done internally with their own Marketing Dept., just outsourcing the printing. |

Most game companies use capitals, or small caps, for their logos. The thickset, capital logo gave off a serious feel which is suitable for a serious company doing serious things, but the change to a leaner, lower case logo gives off a more approachable and everyday feel. I don't like the look aesthetic wise, but that may be what they're going for?

Gotta say, I do prefer the older logo, so used to seeing it that it will be strange to see the new one, but I'm sure I'll get used to it.
The main takeaway I have from the new logo is what's conspicuous in its absence, I thought EA liked their brand slapped on everything, but I might be reading something into nothing here.

You think they are going to have 4 years between their game releases? Have BioWare ever done that before? The last release difference was 2.5 years between DAI and MEA, and that was with MEA being delayed from the original date. It's going to be 2 years between MEA and Anthem. I can't see DA4 being released later than 2021, maybe 2020 if having assets already in Frostbite and the long pre-production time helps speed up the process. |

Ironically, EA already have a single player game in their portfolio that they class as "live" service, the Sims 4, yet people still think it only means multiplayer. It's just trying to get people to play the same game for a long time, and continue to release content for it, it's not a game genre in itself, but can apply to different genres. If they can get it to work for RPG genre I suspect gamers would actually be happy, cus they wouldn't have to wait years for new content.
But, yeah, I think you are right about the pre-production thing, but it likely started with MEA, which then affected DA4 as suddenly Anthem needs more resources as they gave them to MEA, similar thing probably happened to SWTOR which scaled back it's plans. It's like a stone in water, the effects just ripple out.
