I’m still pretty cynical about the “live services” for two reasons:
1) The results of this “offer a base game and toss in interesting stuff later” is what turned Sea of Thieves into a massive watery turd. The base game of SoT is BORING. How many people will be playing Sea of Thieves a year from now?
2) As Jim Sterling pointed out a while ago, we all only have so much time for gaming. I might devote an unhealthy amount of time to the DA series, but it’s still finite. And EVERY game company is dipping their toes in this ‘live services’ bullshit. We can’t devote our lives to daily logins; that’s basically turning gaming into work.

I hope not, since it’d delay DA4 a lot, regardless of which path is picked. I don’t know how the Anthem system would work in DA while mantaining some of the game’s traditional features, like party system and a pause system. Also, it’d likely mean a use of a reflex based system in combat, since I doubt they’d repeat the DAI MP situation, which wasn’t much appreciated. My favorite scenario would be of having Anthem focusing on all the live/online features while giving space for a more traditional approach for DA, but that interview kind of put a stop on that theory, since it seems live elements will be present either way. Regardless, it’ll be a year at least before we’d know anything about it. Casey Hudson has already explained what they mean when they talk about live elements in DA, and I quote: "when we talk about “live” it just means designing a game for continued storytelling after the main story."In other words, this may have little to do with combat and more with modifying a strategy meant to prolong the title's longevity after launch. And why shouldn't they do this? I certainly would appreciate meatier support period for a single game and, say, additional DLC or goodies spread through a longer period of time when it's obvious that we won' be seeing the next chapter for half a decade or more... Except they talk about live services as if its a new thing that's being added to the franchise. So when he says "designing a game for continued storytelling after the main story", he can't just mean "designing a game so that we have DLC". Cus they already have that and have for years. Its not new and live services are new. My best, positive conclusion right now is they're designing a game that will close off the narrative loop of its main story by the end of the game, but leave story hooks or have an overarching campaign going in the background, which they will then continue in new content updates like MMOs do with their content expansions. And maybe a store ala Far Cry 5, but only vanity items. My pessimistic take is that live services is going to involve character progression, so a store ala Shadow of War. Nothing random, so its not loot boxes, but still getting faced with the choice of "pay to skip the grind from hell".

My pessemistic take is that we aren't going to get a finished story in the vanilla game and they're going to sell the story piecemeal. Both options would be new. Hoping for the former. Live services aren't new. Even BW devs have chimed in and pointed out that every single DA title to date had some form of a live service/element already. What happened is that game industry seems to have recently bunched up and defined basically most support for game post-launch that prolongs its life as 'live service'. It's not as much a new stuff or new systems, but a new strategy of supporting (thus monetizing) a single game or a franchise for a longer period of time, unlike before, where stuff like post-launch patches were an afterthought and DLC or mtx were a thing to make an additional buck rather than major source of revenue.

EARLY. IDEAS.As early as letting Alexis Kennedy finish writing and fleshing out whatever faction he's been assigned to write pretty much a year ago from now You think they'd be writing stuff like that if they were hashing out early ideas? Naw. In other words: I'm not worried. If Casey says that early ideas are "still true" then it likely means that, basically, DA4 ain't yet in full production mode, which is not news. Besides - while I don't hype easily, I now have a title to squee about that is other than DA4 that I can set my eyes on. And waiting for DA4 still hasn't been as arduous as Elder Scrolls 6 WHICH JUST HAS BEEN TEASED, PEOPLE.

(Honestly, given that I'll probably spend an obscene amount of time in both, I don't even want them to arrive in the same year. )

May not the shittiest though, the Starfield teaser was similarly unhelpful.

With the state of the gaming industry atm, it's more like there are constantly too many good games to play. About a decade ago things were getting really barren, but now good games are being released constantly. For me Vampyr just released (story rich adventure), there's Cycling Manager 2018 releasing this month (I'm a stat geek ) and I still have a backlog like Pillars of Eternity 2 and Divinity Original Sin 2 I haven't finished, Sims 4 I haven't played enough of. It's like, there are so many good games now we no longer have to settle. It's fantastic, TBH.

After my current PT of the DA series I need to figure out if I want to do XCOM 2 next, HZD, or do another PT of Fallout 4 so I am with everyone there. All the while I hope I can get it done right around the same time to get the next Ace Combat game, which dosen't even have a release date I suppose.

Okay, perspective! Bioware needs all eyes on Anthem, and any kind of information for DA4 that makes it sound like they are working on it hard and it's release is closer than expected, distracts fans, media and journalists from their new IP that they need to succeed.
Devs lie, they are lying liars, DA4 WILL have a trailer for E3 2019! Right...?

Disappointing news. Sounds like DA4 is still years off and mass effect an eternity off, that’s if all eggs in horrid anthem doesn’t fail hard. I've said in another thread, that I predict the next da game will be released Nov 2020. Could it release in late 2019? I suppose anything is possible. Nov 2019 would be 5 years after the release of DAI. It would be a nice surprise it that were to happen. Why I say Nov 2020 is that there have been rumors, nothing confirmed, that Sony will release their next generation console. Again just rumors. So if the game were to be released later than that, it would likely be made for the next generation. The other thing is I don't see them going longer than 6 years between games. Could I be wrong? Yes. Only time will tell. I would be curious what they will show at E3 2019, as far as DA is concerned. With ME, its hard to say. If the next da game were to be released late 2020, I would guess a new ME game could be released in 2022. I do see the next ME game being released on the next generation consoles. One thing EA could do to keep fans interested is release a remastered trilogy. I'm sure that's wishful thinking on my part, but it would be nice if that were to happen. As far as Anthem is concerned. I'm not interested in the game, but I like for it to do well.
