One of my biggest gripe (and still is) with Cullen's romance was after The Abyss.
First time I played the game and after this event, I ran around talking with everyone. And like always saved Cullen for last. So I go into his office to discuss the matter and all of sudden it was about Cullen's issue. Um. Your lover practically went to hell and back and instead comforting her, The Inquisitor has to deal with his problem.
The developers could have added in a discussion about the events that took place. Then once you leave Skyhold or the conversation and return then Cullen's side-quest starts.
Given Cullen's history and his feelings towards your character you think such discussion would be there. Oh yes, Cullen states at the Winter Palace, "I know its foolish but I was worried for you tonight" after dealing with some assassins. But showing such after falling into hell? Nope.
It never bothered me personally, i figured that going through the stuff that he had gone through (if you side with Templars he lost friends there, Haven, leading battle against Grey Wardens and then being told the Inquisitor is somewhere in the fade) might have been too much. He did quit cold turkey and that's pretty rough and I'm just talking about me and quitting smoking, it's still not easy on some days and it's been 12 years. It does remind me of ME3 and Kaidan romance, after you come back from Thessia and Shepard just got this huge slap in the face. Shepard goes and takes care of Liara and comforts her and then she/he goes looking for Kaidan to find a shoulder to lean on, but .... Mr. Alenko is in the Engine room chatting with Adams about kicking asses and no word of comfort is muttered. At least Cullen had a good excuse for not being able to be supportive. It's another thing DA2 did right, even if it was just a couple second visit from your LI/best buddy after your mother died, it was a nice touch.Except for Sebastian.*cough*cough* Sigh.

He doesn't? Did not know that 😕 Yeah, like Solas, he's the late added LI. He doesn't comfort you after your mother dies, he doesn't get mentioned in the epilogue by Varric, and he doesn't even count for the romance achievement. But he does offer his condolences to you in ambient banter. As does Cullen. :heart eyes:

I always wanted to romance him, but the no flirting with anyone always gets me What can I say, my Hawkes like to flirt, lol. I do have a World state with him as my Hawke's LI for DA:I though, which is kind of set at the moment and I have used it for my last 4 playthroughs, cause I keep forgetting to change it. Solas and Sebastian, both half-assed romances, both don't get a sex scene, both start with S .... coincidence? I THINK NOT!

I would feel even more cheated with Seb's romance if I had to pay for his DLC. Wasn't he a preorder bonus or something like that? I know I got him for free in my copy, but my hubby had to buy his DLC.

(My first DA and really RPG experience ♥) They gotta stop these half-ass additions. People just fall in love with the characters then feel frustrated when they realize the romance isn't fully integrated... yeah I feel like what happened to Sebmancers has to be the worst. Your romance not even being consider an achievement is like, fricking cold man lol Geez!

Otherwise, the scene after Mom dies, Aveline comes to visit, the same as if Hawke hadn't romanced anyone.

The scene in the Gallows where you talk to everyone, you don't even get so much as a handshake from Seb. I mean, come on, I know it's a chaste marriage, but you can't give Hawke a hug?!?

He is! :sob: :cries some more over what could have been: He's actually as close to my canon as I get with DA2, Cullen x Hawke notwithstanding. So I'm just pleased as punch that DAI acknowledged my rivalmance at long last! So, IMO it's still worth it. Incidentally, the game guide was wrong tho about not flirting with anyone else. You just can't start any of the other romances. Edit: His DLC was for pay shortly after the main campaign came out, but the added the DLC in with later special editions and promos.

Huh, Day 1 Dlc ... I do not remember paying for him. I just remember that my husband did, cause I watched him play and saw that he was missing Seb at the Gallows scene and then he bought and replayed the game.
I guess Seb just didn't like my Hawke then, cause I never got anywhere other than the Chantry cutscene after his personal quest, guess I never got his approval high/low enough.

That's just the way my Hawkes rolled.

Seb and Merrill are just the two characters I have trouble with getting approval. Merril is usually always rival, because I just can't agree with her mirror obsession and Seb, I don't know why. It's just hard to get approval I think and you get him late in the game, so it's always a game of catch up for me with him.

The situation of Solas and Sebastian, in regards of their romance paths, and their implementation in the series, are a bit different. Sebastian was a dlc, and was created probably during the late part of the (short) development, and considering how much problems they had to the game in general due to that short dev time, it was probably given he'd have something lacking.
As in regards of DAI, I think that while some problems in Cullen's and Solas' romance might have been caused by the late addition, all romances were quite different in term of content and pacing. Other then Bull, I think Cassandra's romance path could've been way better, and felt a bit short. Plus, those additional romances were from planned character who were already going to be in the game, and not dlc. They decided to not have them as romances already. I think it was nice move from them to add more romances.
Though to be honest, I think they should stick for future games to 6 romances divided equally (they wont' be back on the all bisexual/playersexual approach). This is more about companions in general. Considering the bigger role characters outsite the team but in your ship/Castle took in the last games of Bioware, I think it'd be better to have 6-7 companions to not spread too much the writing budget betweeen those. Same goes for the romances, though in DAI's case Cullen and Solas didn't take a hit of the original budget but from the extending one.

I agree, fewer companions and fewer romances. If you are going to miss out on the romance you want, at least you'd have a decent story to turn to and not five more deserts to slog through lol I could've loved DAI well enough if it were actually a well-paced game with a compelling narrative... romance or no romance.
I think you're right in that a big portion of their time and resources was spent on learning the engine, so hopefully that won't be an issue next time.

Sebastian should have been available companion in Act 1 and required during the quest to take down the Flint Company assassins.
It's understandable why he didn't participate in the actual game, given the huge target he had on his back, but the clear determination to seek revenge on his parents murderers he demonstrates in the opening cutscene, surely would have made it in-character for him to throw caution to the wind in that moment.
It would even have given Elthina even more reason to rebuke him during the cutscene that follows the quests, that Sebastian not only abandoned his vows but also put his life in danger, all for the sake of petty vengeance.
Being a companion in Act 1 would have given some nice character moments.
You just know he would have objected to the Red Iron sidequest to take out Lord Harimann (since we're no different than the hired goons who murdered his family), something that would become even more poignant in retrospect when he finally learns that Lady Harimann was responsible for the death of his family in Act 2.
Shepherding Wolves would have also been a good quest to bring him on, so he can witness the depths to which Petrice will sink to stir up a religious war between the Chantry and the Qunari in Kirkwall, rather than the facade of deniability she has in Act 2.
I can totally picture Sebastian using the knowledge that they've left the Qun, as an golden opportunity to spread the word of the Maker to the Tal-Vashoth in Blackpower Promise. The rest of the party (especially Varric) would end up yelling at him to stop trying to convert people trying to murder them.
The adorkable flirting between Sebastian and Bethany in the DLC made it even more of a shame they never got to interact in Act 1.

I think you're right in that a big portion of their time and resources was spent on learning the engine, so hopefully that won't be an issue next time. Yeah, that was another problem. The number of areas to explore were (in my opinion) too much to balance out the quest content in the game. There were some areas with more interesting quests, but it wasn't enough. I just hope that they didn't use the time and resources that they wouldn't use in the engine (at least not as much as what they had to do with DAI) and old gen to make the game just bigger. While I do think the balance and Pacing between the Openworld and the quests in the game will be better then in DAI, I'm not sure it'll be enough. Walters words on the squadmate with the least lines in MEA having it more then the squadmate with most lines in ME3 (either Liara or Garrus) it's a bit reassuring.

OMG!!! Hi, everyone! I haven't been on BSN in forever, and on a whim decided to check out the old BSN to chat. It was then I found out they were shutting it down permanently today. I guess it's a good thing I decided to check out BSN when I did. I read through a few of the old forums I used to chat on and felt pretty sad seeing all the goodbyes. I'm glad people were posting all over the site about this place or I would have never found it. Anyway, just wanted to make my presence known
