not really, nova has an evolution where it can be effective against shields or armor. I can take all shields down from an enemy with one nova bomb and send them flying. It's how you spec your class. Yeah 60% one or the other, and in ME3 you could take one evolution that added 100% to both. In ME3 you can charge and nova everything without dying once, it was a joke. I understand you don't like the nerf that came with Nova, but I think it took vanguard back to the ME2 days of playing vanguard; where you can't just charge and nova everything you see with no consequences.

That was because of Nova invulnerability frames, I'm not complaining about them removing that, it's the nova damage that lacks now. I could look past the damage if it was a detonator, then I could use it with annihilation field, but since it is not a detonator, it should atleast have stronger damage.

It true on it's own nova is weak the best you can get is about 700 area damage, but with specing there are other skills and profiles that can help with boosting nova damage output.

Pretty far into the game so won't show off combat related to story that involves spoilers. So here's a video of me ravaging a random Kett outpost on Insanity:
Also apparently the video is still processing so select 480p, or it won't play.

Against Bosses, Most skill with the exception of Biotic Charge is weak. In ME3, Nova is OP and that is because it allows players who cant play Vanguard in ME2 a chance to play it - and there is no need for Nova, personally I dont use it in ME3. Think of it as a panic button. , Against so called stronger enemies, Nova works just as well as other Offensive Biotic skills. They melt away just fine (It primes and allows your team mate to detonate them). I remember the days when the entire ME2 Bioware forum is flooded with post like "Biotic Charge" is useless in Insanity. There are no such things as useless skills, only useless players I think annihilation field is amazing vs bosses, it can be specced to add 40% damage to anything that is inside. I'm not saying nova is useless, I'm saying it's sub optimal, I can see you are a good player, you can fck enemies up with anything, but if we are talking efficiency I think you could do better if you swapped nova for something more useful. Nice videos btw. Thing is it is never about 1 skill. it is all about how u plan to fight and your play style. For example, when I use annihilation, I would use the Asari sword so I can close in, prime them then detonate with charge.i would also spec differently. For a Vanguard, the primary source of damage is melee and shotgun, skills simply facilitate different play styles.

I agree, and you are completely right, but here's the thing - Nova doesn't synergies with shotgun/melee in any way, it doesn't add anything to that play style. If you look at my video for example, every single skill I use gives me a bonus to shotgun damage in some way.

Actually Nova invulnerability frames are not fully removed, the split second u leap, u r invulnerable. You just need to time it well. I use charge and Nova here to nullify the twin chest cannon from the elite destroyer.

So I had to switch quickly to the one with biotic charge, AField and Energy Drain. I don't think I've seen anyone use this kind of build that I did in the video. But it's sooooooo freakin good and I'm proud of it. I just noticed that I use the exact same power setup, it's the best!

However a build I won't use cos I m a darm purist fetish. Vanguard no use tech power for me

I think that 30% weapon damage after using a tech power for 5 sec is pretty huge. But if I went for a purely biotic class I would pick backlash instead because it also gives survive ability like energy drain and also can add weapon/melee damage after you block.

Watching all these videos makes me think I'll be slightly unprepared with my Sentinel And is it just me or do you guys feel like some enemies are bullet sponges?

Ahhh welp so much for thinking I was the only one who ever used that power setup. News to me, kaind is the only one I know so far with that power set up besides myself. Curious was that the hyperguardian armour set? I was thinking of experimenting with it to see if it's better to have more damage resistance vs more shields and health.

This is another build I made recently after some theorycrafting with the biotics.
I think this one might be my new favourite build after the sentinel build.
At 0:24 it's so freakin beautiful.

Some Vanguard gameplay on hardcore difficulty. Going for annihilation, charge and nova, with an asari sword. Most battles are over pretty quickly. I also use the Piranha shotgun (it works wonders on the big baddies).
Just a couple of random fights, not any of the harder ones...
